God at Work

In Bible class, we have been learning a lot about Saul who’s name was changed to Paul. Did you know he used to hate Christians so much that he persecuted them on a regular basis? On his way to kill some Christians in Damascus, he was blinded by the Lord. After Ananias bravely listened to the Lord and through the Holy Spirit and healed him,  Saul now Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit and he took on the ministry of being a deciple. Now, if you look back, you can see how much he was prepared for that hard job. He was trained to be a Pharisee, so he knew the Old Testament like the back of his hand. He worked for a while as a tentmaker, and you probably already know why that was useful for traveling from city to city. He had Roman citizenship, that was important because back then because the Romans were in charge, so that meant that he was pretty powerful. That was helpful in case he was in danger.

God has set me up for my future in many ways. Even though I don’t know exactly about my future, I know these things didn’t happen by an accident. Everything has a purpose for God’s plan. One thing that probably is something really important for my later life is my adopted brother, Lewis. Going through the process of adoption, understanding what it’s like and how hard it is being adopted, helped me understand the importance of adoption. Now, I have a sweet spot for adopted children and I think God will use me in some way using that experience to help me.

Volcano Project

Our volcano was a representation of a volcano in Iceland named EyajifiallaKull. It is a composite volcano that is surprisingly pretty flat with a white top. We used a yogurt cup as our base and cardboard for the skeleton. Then, we topped it with paper mache. We did not make ours explode because it hasn’t exploded historically in a while, it is dormant. Our poster was about the different types of volcanos and about our own volcano.

Persecution Project

This is a picture of our vision of someone in Oman being disowned by his Muslum family. I was in a group with Leeda and Jenna talking about Oman at our booth in the project room. We had so much fun!

Tipping Tower of Spahgett

Our tower is a little tippy, probably because we didn’t put anything in the middle. Here is one tip from us, cross the sticks on the bottom layer. Also, using a triangular base helped us a lot. The baby on the Pampers cardboard plate is named Carls.

Rona wanted to make a kite with her little cousin. Her cousin wanted the kite to go as high as an airplane. According to Pinterest, Diamond shaped kites go higher than square kites, so she decided to make a diamond shaped kite. She knows that leg A is 12 inches and she knows that leg B is 12 inches as well. She wants to find out the hypotenuse to put a bow in the middle. Unfortunately, she does not excel in math… reasons unknown. We really need your help, can you find the hypotenuse of the kite for Rona? We’d really appreciate it, send your answer to 215 West Central Ave. That’s her grandmas house. Thanks for your help! Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

I was in group with ZOE and LEEDA last week. We wrote our story about a kite. The cousin, if you read above, wants the kite to go super high. We made our kite out of constructive paper. Apparently, triangle kites go higher that square kites. LEG A is 12 inches and LEG B is 12 inches. We pretended in the word problem that we didn’t really know what the hypotenuse was. The written number problem started by doing 12 squared times 12 squared. Then, we needed to add those answers. That would gives us 288, but, don’t forget to find the square root. The square root is 17. Unfortunately, the kite didn’t really work. Our kite, with ribbons and construction paper, didn’t lift very well off the ground… even with a fan.

1 John 4:10-11

10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Our theme took two days to figure out this year. We brainstormed and prayed in little groups, then came together as the whole grade to vote on the final decision. We made a decision but then found out someone didn’t vote so the teachers had to count again. It was that one late voter who changed the answer. We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world.

I can show this theme in many ways at school. I want to respect younger kids. As an Elementary student I felt like all they did was tell me what to do. I would run away from my 8th grader going to family groups because I thought she was talking to me like a two year old. Now I’m embarrassed because she’s now one of my family’s good friends.I would like to try to interact more with Elementary students. I liked it alot when an eighth grader passed by to give me a high five. It made me feel special because I really felt like they were taking time out of there busy schedule to say hi to me, a little 1st grader. Speaking of respect, It is important to respect adults. Teachers, Parents, Extended family members, Church associates… some ways we can respect them is to look at them in the eye when there talking, give them your attention when they are talking to you, obey what they tell you and when they want you to do it… and so many more.

I think we should show love by spending time with other people is an important way to show love. I want to take time out of my day to cook with my grandma or read to my brothers. Yes, spending time with our friends is one way of showing love but can we split our time properly? Maybe we can just spend a minute talking with a neighbor instead of going to play football with your friends. Do you remember that Jesus took time out of his schedule to be with little children. We can also show love by doing things without being asked at grandma’s house when you’re having a family reunion. You could help someone pick up something that spilled at the store. Another one could be even just saying a quick prayer for those with big needs and little needs. It is important for us to involve God in every aspect of our life.

We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world. There’s many opportunities to love, we just have to stop concentrating on ourselves and look around us. We should love to everyone, people we know and people we don’t know.

Beginning of the Year Reflections

One thing I have enjoyed so far is the schedule. I love that bible is first and that math is not too early. Having bible first thing is helpful because bible class might be my favorite subject. I am able to concentrate better on bible than math, especially in the morning. Another thing I’m really liking this year is that Mr. Devries really teaches us math as a class. He has the best tricks and hints. We go over each example based on the book but with a better explanation. I find myself understanding everything a lot more. I’ve learned a lot more about math this year too. It doesn’t have to be really hard. It can be easy, not fun, but easy. I’m looking forward for worship team a lot this year. It’s something i’ve never tried to do before. I’m also looking forward to having a better time in math. Like I said before, I like Mr. Devries’ way of teaching.

My Boat

In science class, the goal was to build a boat that will survive and glide along the water with only a fan put on low. We made our first boat out of a styrofoam cup, a ballon, tin foil, index cards and a ton of tape. But I wont be talking about that one… lets just say it failed and broke. With only limited resorces we made our second boat with what we could use left. Stirofoam, popsicle sticks , tin foil and index cards. The amount of resorces we used in total was 4 by 4 inch piece of styrofoam, 1 ballon, 3 popcycle sticks, 1 styrofoam cup, 3 index cards, 100 cms of tape and 10 inches of foil. The first trial went nicely, our time was 8.63, We got 2nd place. Thats pretty much what we hoped for. We didn’t make changes for the second trial. Exept push in the tin foil. The second trial got 9.33 for a time. It was hugging the edge of the pipe. After all the trials, rAGE kept its reign as 2nd well. By the way, rAGE is our boat name, the last 3 letters stand for Audrey, Grace and Emma.

Summer

This summer I spent a lot of time with my family. I took my family’s first just family vacation to Disney. During the summer we had a lot of free time with family and at my grandma’s and grandpa’s trailer. It felt like a summer that was a lot less busy partly because we didn’t travel to coneticut but may family over there, came to us instead. We went to the beach a lot because when family came, they rented a cottage on Lake Mackatawa. At gun lake at the trailer we got to go tubing, swiming and spend time with extended family. My exchange student named Estela came for about 4 weeks to our house. Its her fourth year coming to our house during the summer. It felt like summer went so fast this year. I’m not sure exactly why… maybe it was because of the extended school year.
