Bible Exam

This is the voice recording for all of them, I think its in order.

Covenant:

I liked the lesson about covenants because it reminded me that God gives us a true covenant. He is not an untrustworthy human, we can trust him to keep his covenant completely and wholeheartedly. I learned that their are two different covenants, conditional and unconditional. Conditional is when they both agree to do something. One person will fulfill the covenant if the other did something they both agreed on so he can receive the covenant. Unconditional is when you don’t have a thing you have to do to get it, it’s just a nice act. God gives us the unconditional covenant because he gives us grace, love, mercy, peace and many more. We don’t deserve those covenants! In one of my Bibles it underlines all the covenants God makes with us and his people. It’s really cool to flip through the pages and see so many covenants. For my visual I chose a rainbow because it was a covenant God made with Noah. I am reminded that God keeps his covenants even thousands of years later.

Slavery/Salvation:

We looked at Revelation and Exodus keeping in mind the words slavery and salvation. In Exodus we were reminded that God is always present in struggles and he see’s you. In Revelation we see that he has an ultimate plan for us. I just need to trust God that he is in control. I don’t need to be afraid. I chose a night light for my visual because the Israelites didn’t know where they were going when they left Egypt, but God was a pillar of fire showing them. I don’t know what’s going to happen in my life but I know in Revelation it tells me that God’s got it. Jesus is the light of the world and with the Holy Spirit and the Bible I have a perfect guide.

Sinai Law:
Moses went up to the to the mountain where there was thunder, lightning, a trumpet sounding and mountain smoke. The people thought Moses was dead because he wasn’t coming down from the mountain. They went to Aaron and asked him to make them gods because they didn’t know what happened to Moses. So he said to them to take of their gold earrings and jewelry. They took their golden things off and gave them to Aaron. He crafted an idol in the shape of a calf and told them that there is their god that got them out of Egypt. They worshiped the idol and feasted afterwards. God was not happy and he was going to kill them all but Moses told him not to because of the covenant he made to Abraham Isaac and Israel. So God changed his mind to let them live. Moses then walked down the mountain with the 2 tablets in his hands. The tablets were the work of God. When Moses saw the calf and threw the tablets because of his anger. He scattered the gold in the water and made them drink it. Not only is it about honoring my parents but i’m under their protection as they are leading me and guiding me to claim my faith as my own. That is why I chose a picture of my parents as my visual.

Salute to a king:

There are two kinds of kings for israel. Their is a nagid who is a king who helps the people to follow God and their is a melek. A melek is a king who wants a strong military and lots of stuff. Israel asked for a king, a melek. God didn’t want king. Isreal and Judah before they were cut apart had 3 kings, Saul, Solomon and David. Separate, Israel did not have any nagid kings they only 20 bad kings. Judah however, had 8 nagid kings and 11 bad kings and 1 bad queen.  The 8 good kings of judah were: Jehosafat, Joash, Amaziah, Uzziah (Azariah), Jotham,  Hezekiah, Asa and Josiah. I’m kinda bummed that the Israelites wanted a melek. I mean, come on, how is a melek going to help you not stray from God? A picture of a crowd represents how sometimes I find my safety and security or insecurity in what they say. Israel was relying on the safety of a human when God wanted them to rely on him for safety because he wanted them to recognize him as their king.

Sent to the promised land:
When the Israelites got out of Egypt they set off to the promised land. When the Israelites crossed Jordan they trusted God for food. When they were told to march around Jericho while the people behind the walls were making fun of them they stood firm in what they were doing and trusted God. Eventually the walls came down except for Rahab’s family because she trusted. In Romans it says that Abraham is known for many great deeds but he was saved because of his faith in God. The wall would not have come down without the faith of Joshua and his people. If the Israelites had trusted God in the first place, they would have been able to enter the promised land 40 years earlier. I chose a picture of a land flowing with milk and honey because it symbolizes the promised land. When they say land flowing with milk and honey, we think of milk waterfalls, honey lakes and beehives around every corner on every tree… Or at least I do. But really, the Israelites back then would think of a land of prosperity.

Something is rotten:

When the israelites started worshiping baal Elisha was furious. There were 850 priests for baal! So he went to king Ahab and told him to bring all his people to a mountain and to choose whether to worship God or baal. Elijah wanted to show the people that baal does not have any power and that it’s just an idol made out of stone. He asked for two bulls and some wood. He grabbed one bull put it on his altar to God and told the priests of baal to set up with one of the bulls on an altar to baal. He told them that baal must set fire to the sacrifice. Elijah made fun of them and told them to pray louder and that baal must be sleeping. Then he told the people to watch him, he built an altar of stones and dug around it. He told them to put 12 barrels of water on the sacrifice. The water flowed down into the ring around the sacrifice. Then he Prayed to God to put fire to the sacrifice. God sent fire from heaven and burned the sacrifice. The people saw this and killed all the priests of baal. When I read this I thought of our fruit bowl. When one of our fruit goes bad, the others all the sudden go bad too. They were once fruity and yummy. Until they went bad, then they were disgusting. I love the way Elijah showed the people of Israel who is real a who is not and how he made fun of them.

A Savior:

The old testament points to a new covenant God made with his people. The grace and forgiveness that was completed by Jesus Christ when he died on the cross. He died on the cross to forgive our sins completely so that we can enter heaven. The old covenant was when they would be forgiven with blood. When they sacrificed the lamb to God they were forgiven because of the blood spilled. The new covenant was revealed when Jesus died on the cross. His blood was shed for me, and now I am forgiven for all my sins. (and of course everybody else too) A picture of a cross set across from earth and heaven symbolizes when Jesus died on the cross to make a path to heaven. It makes me feel very happy that I am forgiven and I am washed clean because of Jesus. It also makes me feel really sad that THAT is what it took to forgive all of our sins.

Names:

I liked when we studied the names of God and how much God really is. We learned about the name EL which means creator, powerful king. We learned about Yahweh which means relational God and Yahweh nissi- The Lord is my banner. We learned about a couple names of people in the bible like Elijah- My God is the Lord and Ezekiel- My God strengthens. We have a book called: Praying The Names Of God. That book lists all the names we talked about and many more, what they mean and the story that goes with them. Me and my mom usually read a section of the book every morning. My favorite name from all that we talked of is The Lord is my banner. I like this name because by God being my banner it signifies his presence and protection.
