Softball changed my life

By:Anna Miller 🙂

BAM!!! The ball soared through the air. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HOME BASE!! Claire just hit her 1st homerun. She felt so happy that she just hit her first homerun. Her best friend, Lexi was cheering her on that helped her a lot. At the end of the game she got lots of compliments from people. That day she felt real good. And she even got her home run ball out of the weeds at the ballpark. She will keep that forever it had good memories.

The next day it was Saturday and every Saturday  there is always the BEST sports updates. She skipped through all of that other stuff… the news, WHAT? Thats all that did to her brain. Anyways as I was saying she is now looking at the sport section and is scanning through then suddenly something caught her eye. She could not believe it she didn’t think this would EVER happen. She felt her heart rise, she felt like her heart was going to pop out of her she was so excited. And it read, “Claire Shoemaker is the best softball player in the state. Congrats, Claire.” Then she couldn’t help herself she shouted as loud as she could, “MOM DAD I AM THE BEST IN THE STATE!!!” Then they both came down and Mr. Shoemaker said, “What are you talking about?” “Are you crazy you aren’t that good yet and keep it down it’s only 8:00 on a Saturday.”Said Mrs. Shoemaker.  “Loook!!!” Claire stammered as she pointed at the paper. Mr. Shoemaker read it out loud. “Claire Shoemaker is the best softball player in the state. Congrats, Claire.” “That… Thats great Claire.” stammered Mrs. Shoemaker.  “Yeah but… but what if it is another Claire Shoemaker?”

SCENE 3

(A couple of years later.)“YES!!!” Claire cried as she got an offer for joining the pro softball team. “UMMM UH When do we start i’m sure mom and dad will be double ok with me joining but i think I still have to ask. I’ll call you back ok can you give me your number?” When she got the coaches number she hung up. “Just a couple of years ago I was best in the STATE and now I am on a professional team. I… I can’t believe it.”  Reader can you believe it or were you expecting this all long?

SCENE 4

“I have my first pro game today I am really nervous. What if I make a fool of myself?” “Claire, you will do great and you know that too do do not be so scared.” comforted Lexi “Thanks that will help me well anyways I have got to go or else I will be late for my plane bye.” “Bye and good luck.” When Claire got on the plane she had just noticed how nervous she really was. “I think this was a bad idea. When I was a kid I thought it was going to be easy when she pretended to be a professional softball player but I think that I should quit I don’t like this get me out!!” “AHHHH!!! STOP STOP GET ME OFF!!” But it was too late she was up and high in the air and on her way. “No I don’t want to go stop stop!!” She got dirty looks but she didn’t care a bit she was too scared to leave. But then she remembered she always had someone with her even in her hardest of times, his name was God. So she sent a little prayer and she felt better. And she flew to California in peace and with no worries. And she even fell asleep. And she felt loved.

SCENE 5

At the game and she was in the locker room getting ready for her big day. And her new team was giving her some weird looks like, “Who is she?” and also, “What is she doing in here?” But there was this one girl named, Paige. And she was really good at making friends in just five minutes! And she came up to Claire and she was like “Hi i’m Paige what’s your name?” And then they talked together like they knew each people. Then she heard her name and she was up to bat. “No i’m not other for years. And Claire felt better and better as she got to know ready.” She thought in her head. But she went up anyways. She missed the first time she felt ok, missed the second time. Then she started to get nervous she really wanted to hit the ball the first time up to bat. Then BAM!! The ball went out into the crowd. She could not believe it first time up to bat and she hit a home run she was soo happy!! She saw Paige cheering and the rest of the team and Paige come out to come and give her a big team hug. And she felt so special.

SCENE 6

After the game and when she was heading out to go to her hotel room. People crowded around her and were asking her for autographs and asking a of questions on how she feels about hitting a home run on her first game. And of course she gave the autographs she can’t let her fans down! And she answered questions more hesitantly because she doesn’t like to answer a bunch of questions and she was tired  and she wanted to get back and take a nap. She felt like she wanted to punch them in the face and say, “Give me some space woman!” But she didn’t and she just acted rude as can be. And she was really annoyed and acted really sarcastic. And the person who was interviewing her was like alright I think you want some space and leher go by. And then Claire was thinking, “Finally some peace and I don’t care ever to see that lady ever again.” And she went to her hotel room and she felt happy and she plopped on her bed.

SCENE 7

The next day was a full day of rest and she slept in until 10:00. Then she woke up walked over to her phone and she called Lexi. She immediately s called Lexi. And when she picked up she was sounded really excited and she was screaming. “LEXI, WHAT’S WRONG?!?!?!” “Nothing nothing at all I am on your team on the professional softball team!!” “Stop it no you are not stop pulling my leg.” “I’m not I promise see you at the game and I will prove it to you… bye.” “Bye.” Then right after she hung up she did a mini celebration dance. Then she went over to make some breakfast she didn’t feel like cooking so she went to go get dressed and she went to the waffle house.

Scene 8

and went to the field. And right then she saw her it was Lexi and… she was already talking to Paige. And she couldn’t help herself she ran over to go and see her. She never got to see her because of softball she always had to talk over the phone. Then she thought that maybe she should just let her make a NEW friend. So she hang back a little bit because she should have some time to meet new people. Then she was itching to go and talk but she wouldn’t and she can’t. Waiting and waiting Paige was too good at making new friends. Then finally they left and Claire ran and gave her a big hug. “I can’t believe you are here Lexi!” “I know you didn’t believe me.” “I know.” “Let’s go get ready your locker is right next to mine.” Then they left the parking lot and went to go get ready. “What do you position do you play Lexi?” “1st base.” “I’m a pitcher. And a 2nd base.” “Cool.” Then when they got there they got all ready for the game. Then they went out to their position. They were really excited to be playing together they could not believe that they would be playing together until one of them had to leave the team to a new team or they were too old. She couldn’t really concentrate she was so excited.

SCENE 9

After the game they lost 4-3… close one. Claire asked if Lexi wanted to go eat some dinner and go see a movie. She said that would be a great idea. They went back to their hotel rooms to get ready. They meet at a little cafe. After they went to a movie. Then they were bad, as a softball player you aren’t supposed to fill up on junk food… but they did and they didn’t regret it. They will burn it off at softball. 🙂 They thought it tasted good. After a while of eating and watching TV (softball of course.) Lexi was getting tired so she went back to her hotel room. Then Claire started to feel kind of sick because of all of the sugar and junk food, so she went to bed and hoped to wake up in the morning and feel better. And she did which was good because she really wanted to spend more time with Lexi. But… she couldn’t because she was too sick in the morning, oops too much sugar. Claire went back to her room to see if maybe Paige would want to go and do something, she said that would be really fun. Paige came to Claire’s room, Claire was not ready yet. But she quick got dressed, brushed her teeth, and washed her face then they left. Claire didn’t care what people thought of her. Paige asked if Claire wanted to go to an arcade. Claire said she had never been to an arcade before oo they went to an arcade.

SCENE 10

When they got to the arcade Claire felt kind of  weird. It was so busy and the games looked so weird to Claire. Paige said that you HAD to play air hockey. So Claire did and she had so much fun. Then Paige practically dragged Claire over to laser tag. And Claire felt really stupid when she asked, “Are they… um, real lasers?” Paige just laughed and said, “No they just look like lasers, they will explain how to play in the room thingy ma Bob.” Claire felt even more stupid. When she got inside she felt like her eyes were super glued in one spot. She was staring at these weird objects that looked like she had no clue. But they looked really cool. They were red and green lights and had cool little laser guns on them. When they explained the game. Claire felt like a little kid again. Then she started to play. She was running around randomly and shooting randomly. But she had too much fun. When she got the results she laughed because she was last place. Oh well that doesn’t matter she had fun. They had to go and play more games. They played there all day. Then it was like 9:00 and they had to go but they had like, 1,111,111 tickets all together and they got the biggest prize as possible. Then they got kicked out because they were too loud and it was closing anyways so they had to go home… tear. :,(  When they got to their hotel room they watched softball tournaments then they realized it was 11:00 and Paige should probably go now because they had a game the next day. They said bye then Paige left.

SCENE 11

The next day Paige and Claire didn’t say a thing to Lexi about last night because Claire was afraid that it would make her sad. They tried to keep a straight face but they couldn’t it was too hard. Lexi gave her a dirty look and kept on getting ready for the game. Lexi asked what was wrong but Claire lied she said nothing was WRONG she just didn’t want to HURT Lexi’s feelings that Claire went out with Paige while Lexi was sick. But when Claire had to tell her Lexi said it was ok and she didn’t want Claire to stay in the hotel just because she was a little sick. That made Claire feel a lot better! Claire glanced at Paige and threw her a quick smile Paige giggled a little bit. Claire started to get ready. Lexi and Claire didn’t talk to each other but they knew they were best friends. Claire was pitcher she was really good at it too. 1, 2, 3 strikes YOU’RE OUT!!! The one that was up to bat eyes were humongo. And she walked into the cage and mouthed to the next person up to bat, “Good luck, Bethany.” She just raised her eyebrows and said, “I can face any pitcher, after all I am the best, Lucy.” Lucy just rolled her eyes at that she was really self centered. When she came out Paige was catcher and Lei is first base. Paige gave Claire a nod and Claire went for it and she tried her best to get her out. She missed It was the championship and this was the last pitcher. Bethany missed the last one too. And she hit the third one way up in the. Anya, another girl on the team dropped it but then she picked it back up and threw it as hard as she could to 1st base. Claire was all ready for it. And she caught it just in time. Bethany was out and The Cubs just won the championship everybody was cheering except the other teams The Tigers fans and The Tigers. And thats all Claire, Paige, and Lexi had to say so thats all folks!
