The Red Sea

The Red Sea

The river was long. There was a big army behind us. There was no way we could get across the sea. I hesitated that we will not get to the other side. We argued with God. He told Moses a way to get across. I thought that we would die but no Moses did not give up. I saw Moses lift up his staff. I thought he was crazy. He stuck his staff in the sand and something amazing happened. Something I never saw in my life. The water split into two parts and in the middle there appeared dry ground. As we walk between the water I was scared. What if the water would fall on us. All of us made it to the other side but since it was split Pharaoh’s army was coming with chariots. They came as they could to get to the other side. When they were in the middle the water close on them.  They drowned. We were on the other side safe rejoicing, and happy, and praising God.

Susan’s problem

By Alyson Vikstrom

                                           Scene 1

“Sush it” Susan’s face turned red.

“Well you’re not good either” Tom answered.” In fact you don’t have any friends.”

“I don’t need any” as she slammed the door.

“Loser” Tom thought as he walk to his house.

“ What’s wrong Tom”? asked his mother as he walk in his house upset.

“Susan” Tom answered

“ That foolish little  girl” Tom’s  mom respond, as she reached for the phone. She called Susan’s mom and and told her “Susan has been fighting with Tom. You have to talk with Susan.  I  don’t find it ok”  she slammed the phone down.

“Ok” responded Susan’s mom to the phone. “ Susan get down here now, I have to talk with you.” Susan’s mom yelled as loud as she could. “I heard you were fighting with Tom, you owe  him an apology” as she put her hands on her hips. “You are in deep trouble miss.”

Susan replied, “Tom was being mean to me because I don’t have any friends.”

“But weren’t you mean to him ?”

“No, he was being mean to me, he lies and cheats and always calls me loser. .” Susan responded.

After the long talk I finally was free to go.I stomped back up stairs as Susan’s mom went up stairs to Susan’s room. When her mom open the door she heard something she did not hear before. She heard Susan  sobbing.

“Why are you crying Susan? her mom asked. First she did not answer but she got the words out her mouth.

“ Am I horrible because I have  a problem with not having  any friends?” Susan asked

“No, you are not horrible. Sometimes you can be a blessing” her mom mumbled “I also made supper do you want to eat? I will be back ok Susan?” her mom asked. Her mother left to set the table. Susan looked out the window and saw kids playing with each other, and it made her wonder if she would have any friends. She was there for a while. Then Susan got out her bed and went downstairs to get supper.

“Mom am I bad because I am mean to other kids? Because I get into a lot of trouble lately.” Susan asked as she sat down.

“Well we all can be mean to each other once in a while.” Susan’s mom told her. I looked at all the different kinds of delicious foods  like potatoes, gravy, carrots, kiwi, and the best of all pumpkin pie. At the table we talked about having friends. I went to my room, and my parents said goodnight to me. They  went down stairs  again. I heard my mom and dad talking about me and my relationship with others. A little later I heard snoring from downstairs.

                                           Scene 2

As I got up with a frown on my face. I knew that it was going to be a horrible day. I walked to my school which is about two miles away. From a  distance away I could see the crowded school door. The people in the crowd were all shouting and shoving. “Get back everyone I have to go first,”Susan yelled as she shoved her way through the crowd. I heard a yell. But I already shoved my way through the crowd. I opened the school door slammed it shut behind me. My teacher Mr.Williams was angry as I stepped in the room.

He told me that I was in deep trouble because I didn’t wait my turn. I argued with my teacher. So he put me in detention. I was in detention for a hour. I tried to run away but I found myself trapped by his arms. I could not move. Mr. Williams told me that I have to be last in line and I need to put others before myself. He also told me to love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than this. He told me that it is found in Mark 12:31.

Scene 3

At recess Thomas saw me. “Youre a loser Susan,” Tom bragged. But I ignored him. I saw the new kid in school named Paige. I walked my way over to her. And shoved her off the swing. She was sobbing because she got a large cut on her leg. Her face was pale when I looked at her. She hopped up and ran away. Her friend Megan told Paige “Susan has no friends, and she is mean.”

Paige asked “Does she have any friends?”

Megan answered as they walked away “She has none.”  They tattletaled on Susan.  Paige stayed inside school for a while.

Climax

Megan came back without Paige with her hands on her hips. She punched me off the swing. My heart dropped. I could not bare it anymore.

“Help me!” Susan yelled. I ran my way toward the school door.

Thud! I hit the ground face flat. From a distance I saw what seemed to be a shape move faster and faster.I heard a gentle voice but I could not see who  was coming. The object approached and seemed to be Paige.

“Are you OK?” a voice came out. As I felt a warm hand reach out toward me and lifted me up. I was brought to my class immediately. I could hear the ambulance come. And I could hear my mom talking to Mr. Williams. Every time when I tried to open my eyes they stung. But I also heard the same voice as before. A gentle and kind one that told me “You have a little ways to go yet before you are out of the hospital.” I was placed in an emergency room. I heard doctors come in and out of the emergency room and other strange people also.

Falling action

I was in the hospital for ten months. The doctors did many experiments in my room as I read a book or fell asleep. But I was surprised to see Paige by the door of the room.  For the first time Paige read me a book that warmed my heart. I asked her to come again and she did when the doctors were doing a experiment.  This will distract me so I wouldn’t feel the pain. One time she came without me asking her. Because I thought  she did not like me, I was surprised to see her by the entrance of my room. It made me think is this like having a friend, a very nice one. But  I was confused because a couple months ago I was mean to her. As Paige walked in the room I focused on her. We did what we  usually do after we read the book and prayed I asked “I thought  that you did not like me any more.”

“ We just have to move on with life” she mumbled.  She told me that she accepts me for what I did wrong.

“I am going to be out of the hospital soon” I interrupted Paige.  She was happy to see me sit up in bed.  I got out of the hospital in the middle of the night.

Ending

The next morning I made cards for all of the kids in my class.  Because they prayed for me.  When it was hard to pray for a mean girl like me. This time at the crowded school door. I waited patiently.  I finally got in to school.  I saw Paige and said I’m sorry. A big silence came in the room.

Everyone looked at me and Paige. I told my teacher that I had cards for the class.  As he nodded I passed out the cards.  Paiges said “Thank you for being a friend to me when it was tough!”  Love Susan Rose Arendsen.  That recess everyone wanted to play with me.  I left happily back home told mom my story.
