Themes of the Old Testament
Topic 1-conflict and doubt
The name Israel means struggle with God. Because he latterly struggled with God. God knows that we will go through times of doubt. And that does not make you a bad Christian.
When my Grandma went through cancer. I learned that’s not bad to struggle with God. And that does not make you a bad Christian. It means that its normal to doubt God.
Topic 2-convent
A covenant is a deal or promise between two groups. God said obey get bless disobey get cursed. I learned that a conditional promise is if you do something then I’ll do something. an unconditional promise is I do something and you don’t have to do anything.
This fits with the topic because This is what I think of when I think of deal or promise. And lots of people shake hands when they make deals. What it means to me is now I know the to promises God made.
Topic 3-call
God asked Abraham and Jacob to follow his call to a land. He promised to make them into a great nation. He showed them the stars and said I will make your descendants as much as the Stars. God still calls us to do stuff today.
This fits because you need to listen to God’s call. Because if you don’t then nothing will happen. What it means to me is I need to listen to God when he calls on me.
Topic 4-Salute to a King
The cycle of Judges. It is going well. The people sin. God sends enemies to take over them. The people cry out to God. Then it repeats. Then the Israelites asked for a king like other nations. Everyone did what they wanted back then. They looked at other nations and wanted a king like them.
This fits with the picture because culture tells us you need the newest stuff like a phone. What it means to me is I do not need what every one else needs.
Topic 5-sani law
The Ten Commandments are a covenant. God said I will be your God but part of being my people is you need to obey my commands. The law covers every area of your life. Some of today’s gods are. Electronics, Sports, food, games, people, and money.
Phones are a big “god” because you need the new one and spent so much time on it. What it means to me is I need to focus on God.
Topic 6- something is rotten
Israel had one bad king after another. God kept on sending Prophets to the people. Elijah was at Mount Carmel. And God showed that God is more powerful than any god.
This fits with this because people are always like you play soccer and almost mock me about it. But I asked a few people and they said I should keep playing soccer. What it means to me is I should try to be more like Elijah not like the kings.
Topic 7-Slide to destruction
Israel had one good king but still worship bail. So God sent Asiria to scatter them. Judah had two good Kings. but worship idols. God sent the Babylonian to take them over. The Kings focused on power and popularity not God’s law. listen to the prophets that God puts in your life.
This is a picture of a high school and it fits because lots of people in high school are focused on popularity.
What it means to me is I should not try to be popular.
Topic 8-A savior
The people could not keep the Sinai Covenant. So God gave them a new covenant. It would be written on their hearts. Jeremiah gave new commands based on God’s grace and forgiveness. Isaiah gave many pictures of the savior.
This fits because it’s part of the New Covenant.
What it means to me is that this is the new convent.
What they mean to me.
