Themes of The Old Testament

Names

The two main names for God were Elokim which means Creator God. The second name was Yahweh that means relationship God. In summary, God changed many names. God gave and changed names to fit people personalities. Names showed a person’s character or what they were like. I choose a birth certificate for my visual. I think it fits because it represents when a person is born. It also shows the name of the person.

Symbol of a lamp

God promises in a covenant that through David’s line the lamp would never go out. David was a man after God’s own heart even though he made many mistakes. Jesus would come from David’s line. Jesus would be the ultimate light of the world. The lamp fits because Jesus would be the light of the world like how to lamp is a light.

Something Is Rotten

Israel kept getting bad kings that did not follow God. So God sent Elijah to talk to the people. Then the event of Baal vs. God at Mt. Carmel. Elijah asked them how long They will waver between two God’s. The people did not respond. God may put you in a place to make a difference but some people still will not change after seeing that. My picture is a rotten apple. That fits because they kept getting bad kings and more bad kings. Like how the apple is not good.

Salute To A King

The cycle of judges Israel sins, Enemies punish, the Israelite cry to God, God sends a judge. Then the people ask for a Melek king and God wants to give them a Nagid king. Everyone did as they saw fit. Do we look to God or do we look at the culture around us? My visual is a picture of the cycle of Israel. It fits because it represents how the people of Israel serve him then they do evil in the eyes of the Lord, God punishes them Israel cries out, then God sends them a judge, then Israel is delivered.
