We learned that scientists study many aspects of the water, sediment, dissolved oxygen, pH and alkalinity to determine whether the water is eutrophic, mesotrophic or oligotrophic. We also learned that there are tons of microbes in lake water. Spring Lake was shallower, dirtier, browner and had more sediment, while Lake Michigan was deeper, bluer, had less sediment, and was deeper. My personal favorite academic part was when they showed us the picture of Asian Carp all jumping up in the air behind a boat.
