About 215 million Christians experience persecution around the world. Christians have been persecuted in the past and are still being persecuted in countries today, like Iran, however, there are things we all can do to help these persecuted Christians.

Christians have been persecuted for a long time. The main source of persecution for Christians in the first couple of hundred years was from the Roman emperors and other people in the government at that time. That includes the emperors Nero, Valerian, and Domitian. The Roman emperors tried to restore the former ‘Roman glory’ and they thought that by getting rid of Christians, they would achieve that. They were persecuted in many ways such as often being  banished, usually by the Roman emperors or the people in government. Death by wild beast as entertainment was also common and beheading was too. Most of the time, they were persecuted for refusing to worship the emperor. Nero was a Roman Emperor and one of the first people to persecute Christians for their faith and he was widely known as a wicked person. He led the people to hate Christians by blaming them for his own wicked deeds. Used them for torches and flogged them, raped, burned, killed them.

Christians have been heavily persecuted in Iran for their faith. They are being persecuted by Islamic oppression and the Islamic leaders in the government. Many people are being put in prison for a long time because of their faith. Also, they are being punished if they don’t give names of other people that are Christians or of people working for Christian

organizations. Many pastors in Iran are also getting put in prison, very rarely getting released. You can not proclaim or share the good news of Jesus because the government will find out and

they do not like that. With one example, this Christian man was starved and beat and interrogated for a around a week. After a while, they let him go back to his family. Shortly after that, he was at his work and this man who was working for the government pushed him into a hole filled with venomous animals. His fall had broken his hip and shattered his leg too. They left him for dead many times, but he never died because of his faith. The Lord had not abandoned him and had protected him when he needed it the most.

Many people are helping persecuted Christians all over the world. There are many great organizations that are helping to bring relief or needed supplies to Christians that are in danger because of persecution. Now that you know about these things and about Christian persecution, there are many things you can do to help.  We can help by praying for all the people that are being persecuted because of their faith. There are manys ways to help but a couple more are doing things like educating ourselves and others so that you know what is going on, write letters to persecuted Christians to bring them help and to let them know that we are praying for them, and donating to organizations that help persecuted Christians.

Christians have been persecuted in the past and are still being persecuted in countries today, such as Iran; however, there are things we can do to help these Christians. I know of many things that I can do to help. One is to keep praying for them and to have them in my mind. Another thing is that during the persecution project, my group and I are going to try to raise money to donate to an organization to help persecuted Christians.
