Erosion Caused by Glaciers

In the past couple weeks we have been working on projects. My group, Jacob Heeres and I,  had to study erosion caused by glaciers. A few of the things in the picture below are, kettles, grooves, strations, till, moraine, arete, cirque, and plucking. There are two kinds of glaciers that we learned about, continental glacier which covers most of a continent or island and a valley glacier. Overall this was a pretty fun project. Photo on 5-14-15 at 1.19 PM #2

Mauna Loa Volcano

Photo on 4-20-15 at 1.44 PM #3

In the past few weeks in Science class we have been working on making and studying volcanoes.  This is the one that my group and I made together. We have things like lava flow, ashes, cinders, bombs, side vent, pipe, magma chamber, and many other things that make up a volcano. We also made a poster that describes the different kinds of volcanoes like composite, cinder cone, and shield. We tried to make ours after the Mauna Loa shield volcano in Hawaii.

Persecution in Indonesia

unnamed

In the past few weeks our grade has been working on raising awareness of persecution in other countries. Some countries don’t have the same freedoms we have here in the U.S. I worked on the country of Indonesia with a few other girls and above is one of the posters we created.

The Stoning of Stephen

We have been learning about the stoning of Stephen. Stephen was a man that taught God’s word to others. Stephen was seized and false witnesses said that he was a blasphemer. He was stoned to death. Before he died he gave up his spirit to the Lord and forgave those who were stoning him.

Spaghetti Tower

In Science class we had to build a tower 40 centimeters tall that could hold an egg and withstand an earthquake. We had to use spaghetti sticks, marshmellows, and masking tape. Each spaghetti stick was 100 dollars, each marshmellow was 50 and each inch of tape was 25 dollars. We had a total of 4,875 dollars to spend. If we wanted to buy insurance that would be 500 dollars so by the time we bought all of our supplies and insurance we had no money left. Our tower has not collapsed so far and it can hold up an egg at 40 centimeters tall. We don’t know yet how it will do in an earthquake.  Some of the things that we learned would be good to have on our tower are that it is important to have crossbars because it helps keep the tower stable and it is also important to have a place that the egg will be secure and won’t make the tower top heavy.  So far our project has gone really well and I hope that it will withstand the earthquake.

Who is the Holy Spirit and what does he do in my life?

Who is the Holy Spirit and what does he do in my life?

I think that the Holy Spirit is someone who helps us make the right choices and keeps us close to God. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. The Trinity God the father son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Sprit has many names, some of them are counselor, comforter, guide and revealer of the truth. My favorite of the five is counselor. I like this because it helps me to know that there is always somebody ready to help and listen to me. The Holy Spirit teaches us a lot of things. He teaches us to serve, teach, encourage, give, show mercy, share our faith, and so much more. The Holy Spirit will never leave us. If we believe in Jesus the Holy Spirit lives inside of us forever. We can’t run away from it because it is always with us wherever we go. The Holy Spirit is always there to talk to you and to share your problems and triumphs. He is always there to keep us thinking about God. The Holy Spirit never changes and will always be there. He will never leave or forsake us.

I life I like to think of the Holy Spirit as a counselor. I like this term because if you look it up it says a person trained to give guidance. I like that because no matter when or where I am, if I call on the Holy Spirit, I will be helped and given somebody to talk to. I also can connect to the guidance because a few days ago I was downtown with my family for a parade. When the parade ended we were walking back to our car. I thought that it would be a shortcut to slip through a store but when I told my dad that he told me that would actually take longer. Just like I would’ve made the wrong choice if my dad hadn’t helped me, the Holy Spirit helps to guide me down the right path. For those who love and follow Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Bowling

Yesterday afternoon we, the whole eighth grade, went bowling at Hudsonville lanes. We all piled into volunteering parents’ cars and drove off, away from an afternoon at school. Once we got there we all got the right size shoes and found the right weight of bowling ball. Then we got started. I am usually all right at bowling if I have bumpers up. The problem is that the people working there said that we couldn’t have bumpers. I thought that I would be in trouble but to my excitement and surprise my first two turns I got a strike!  I was very proud of myself for not getting a gutter ball but I got enough of those later on. In the end I got three strikes and a couple of spares at the end of two games. It was super fun and I was glad that we took an afternoon off of school to have some fun bowling.

Jesus’ Crucifixion

This last week in Bible we have talked about the last words and phrases that Jesus said before he died. The one that I am going to focus on is forgiveness. In the Bible Jesus says, “forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”  We interpreted this to mean that we need to forgive others even when they are not kind or loving towards you. We still need to love and care about them and forgive them. Whenever somebody does something against you forgive them right away because if you wait a long time you might hold a grudge against that person for a long time. We need to forgive and forget and lve a life filled with love and forgiveness.

Math Word Problem

3-5–Squares and square roots~

The area of first base is 144 inches. How long is one side of the base?

How you do this problem is if the whole area of the base is 144 inches then you have to find the square root of that. The square root of 144 is 12 and so 12 inches would be your answer.
