In the past couple weeks we have been working on projects. My group, Jacob Heeres and I, had to study erosion caused by glaciers. A few of the things in the picture below are, kettles, grooves, strations, till, moraine, arete, cirque, and plucking. There are two kinds of glaciers that we learned about, continental glacier which covers most of a continent or island and a valley glacier. Overall this was a pretty fun project.
Mauna Loa Volcano
In the past few weeks in Science class we have been working on making and studying volcanoes. This is the one that my group and I made together. We have things like lava flow, ashes, cinders, bombs, side vent, pipe, magma chamber, and many other things that make up a volcano. We also made a poster that describes the different kinds of volcanoes like composite, cinder cone, and shield. We tried to make ours after the Mauna Loa shield volcano in Hawaii.
Zinc
We had to make a presentation of an element I chose Zinc click on the link above to watch a slide show.
Density Lab
In Science we are talking about how two objects with the same volume and size can have a different densities. For example we put Diet Coke and Mountain Dew in a tub of water. The Diet Coke floated and the Mountain Dew sank. Right now we are trying to figure out why that is. We had a guess. We think that maybe there is more sugar in the Mountain Dew than in the Diet Coke.
Science
A couple of days a go in Science we made our own sedimentary rocks. First we had to make make sediment we did this by using potato peelers and cheese graters this made little scraps of crayon. Then we put them in a piece of tinfoil and wrapped it up tight then we put it under pressure for a week and a half then it came out as a whole piece. Next we are going to make metamorphic rocks which you have pressure but also you add heat. That is what we have been doing in Science these past couple days.
