Africa Activities

Last Thursday and Friday we did some activities so that we could learn more about Africa. On Thursday we did an activity that we had to think of words and short phrases that we thought described Africa. The most popular ones that came up were people, some different animals like monkeys, giraffes, and elephants, and poor. But the reality is that not all of Africa are poor because a lot of people actually have quite a bit of money. On Friday we did an activity where we were given a card from a deck of cards and then depending on what was on our card we had to stand up or sit down to represent different things that people have and do not have in Africa. I learned that in some countries most babies don’t live to be more than about one year old. In another country only a few people have cellphones. In yet another they do not have sewers. I would like to learn more about the culture and daily life in Africa. I hope to gain some perspective on what it is like in a different country in this unit about Africa.
