RING RING, went the telephone. I answered it. It was my best friend Hannah! (Hi my name is Sophie, by the way.) “Hi Sophie. Can you come camping with me on Saturday to Ludington State Park?” “Sure! I’ll go ask my mom.” “MOM? CAN I GO CAMPING WITH HANNAH ON SATURDAY TO LUDINGTON STATE PARK? ” “Sure, honey.” “She said yes!” I told Hannah excitedly. I ran to pack my suitcase.

On Saturday we were all packed and ready to go. We started off to Ludington State Park. It took about 2 hours to get there but we were so busy talking about what we would do that we didn’t notice we were there! We planned to hit the pool right when we got there and then we would go on the zipline and then we would go hiking. We got on our swimsuits and grabbed our towels and goggles. “Whoopee!” I yelled and cannonballed into the pool off the diving board. I accidentally splashed some people on the other side of the pool. “Sorry!” I hollered over at them. “Okay Hannah, next I’m going to do a dive.” I dived smoothly into the water and didn’t splash one single person.

Next we went on the zipline. We saw some deer and a doe with her fawn. We swished along through the trees. It was a blast! We got to the end of the zipline. Next up hiking!

We got our own hiking shoes at the lodge. “I’m warning you girls, never go on the Bear Trail. There have been some bear sightings, and we don’t want you to get hurt.” said Hannah’s parents. “Okay!” we chorused. We walked along on Owl Trail and saw some really cool birds. We got to a fork in the trail. One continued along Owl Trail and one went on to Bear Trail. We sipped a long cool drink out of our water bottles. “This trail looks safer,” said Hannah pointing at Bear Trail. “But your parents told us not to go on that trail!”I said. “Who cares what they say!” Hannah started walking on Bear Trail. “WAIT!” I yelled after her but she just kept walking. I was desperate. I couldn’t go on after her but I couldn’t just leave her there! I sprinted along Owl Trail back to the lodge. Hannah’s parents were still there sipping coffee there. “Mr. and Mrs. Schrotenboer, come quick. Hannah wandered off on Bear Trail!” They jumped up so fast they spilled their coffee all over the lodge. “Come on. This way!” I yelled. We raced along. “HANNAH, CAN YOU HEAR US? COME THIS WAY!” said Mrs. Schrotenboer. We saw a very scared looking Hannah coming our way. “I saw a bear!” she exclaimed looking shocked. “Of course you did, it was Bear Trail!” said Mr. Schrotenboer, but he didn’t sound mad. “Let’s go back to the camper.” I said.

The next day we went hiking again. This time, Hannah stayed on Owl Trail.

This story reminds us to listen to God. The parents aren’t God, but it’s just a visual reminder that we should listen to God and follow him.
