I learned lots of things that I didn’t know before. I couldn’t believe that they would use that much violence on kids just because of their skin color. They used dogs that bit, fire hoses to keep them back, and even put them in jail. If I had lived back in that time, though, I might have thought the same way as the police officers. Some of these kids were younger than me and to believe that they would go to jail of their own free will was really surprising to me. They had more courage than the adults because they didn’t have as much to lose, but they were very brave. Some of them were actually really excited to go to jail because it showed that they stood for something. They would bring their toothbrushes and extra clothes to school and leave school through the windows to meet and would end up going to jail for a while. It was really surprising to me and I admire the courage and joy that they showed.
