God at work

In bible we have been learning about Paul/Saul and his trip around Asia preaching the word of God. Paul had many God given gifts to help him survive and preach, but these are just a couple. Paul came from a lot of money, therefore he had a private teacher who taught him how to read and write, which helped him write down ministries or write letters. He was also Pharisee which helped him understand and know scripture very well. He also had Roman and Jewish citizenship, which helped him with the law. Because the Romans were ruling then, so if he showed his Roman citizenship he was be let off and let go easier. Since again he came from a wealthy family and had a personal teacher, he could speak many languages. Which helped him very much traveling all around.

God has blessed my life in so many crazy amazing ways. But he especially blessed me with the ability to play soccer and basketball. And I think God will use that  ability of mine, to show others where my strength and where my athletic ability comes from. And it’s God. So I think he will use that part of me, and myself to teach and show others he blesses us with our gifts, nothing is never by accident.

Persecution Project

The past few weeks we have been talking about christian persecution. We got assigned a country and had to make a project based on that country and christian persecution. We made a “museum” and a flag, and other posters with stories. It was really fun to do this project, and we all learned a lot.

Science spaghetti marshmallow tower

In science we had to make a spaghetti marshmallow tower. Out of only raw spaghetti sticks, marshmallows, and tape. It started off strong and solid build and blue print. But then the marshmallows hardened and the sticks bent. So we had to restart and fix it. But it ended up not meeting the required height but it should survive the “earthquake”.

Lost in Love

1 John 4:10-11

This is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friend, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Every year Zeeland Christian 8th graders pick a theme. Usually it takes one day, but ours took three. We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world.

I can show this theme in many ways at my school. Love might seem like a hard or awkward thing to show sometimes but it’s as easy as holding the door for someone. When someone opens and holds the door for me it feels really good. That someone took 3 seconds out of there walking time to just simply hold door. Another way is just having respect. Definitely for teachers but also for classmates. Just because they might not be your clossessed or favorite friend doesn’t mean you can just blow them off or leave them out. Even if they both you or you don’t exactly like them, kill em’ with kindness and don’t push them away. You can show in more than just actions to, you can  say a cheesy “good morning,” with a big bright smile and if you can just see there face lighten up even just a little you helped their day get just a little bit better.

As Christians we can show this theme to the world. 7 continents. 195 countries. 4,416 cities. 7.442 billion people. And 2.2 billion christians. I think we can find a way to help and show God around the world. A way we can show love around the world is fostering a kid. It sort of hard because a good chunk of that decision is your parents. But I think it’s a good thing to talk about with your parents, I have a lot of friends who foster kids, and they honestly every single one of them have grown to love them. And some even adopted them. Another way is to pick up trash. So many people litter and that doesn’t only affect us but also animals and plants. The last way is to pray. Sounds cheesy, but praying is a huge thing. There are so many things to pray about, like hurricane Irma and Harvey, or North Korea, or even just places around the world in poverty, and people to find you and your word.

We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world. Love is strong. Love is faithful. Love is unbreakable. God’s love for us will never end, so we got to show love to others.

Science

We raced out “boats” and we put the styrofoam on the bottom for it to float, and popsical sticks on the bottom to glide through the water. And a balloon face to look cute. Out first trial went good we came in 4th. But i think we can go faster.  I think some changes we will make are more popsical sticks so it glides faster. And maybe less topper stuff so it goes faster.

Summer

This summer I went to my cottage a lot. My cottage is on Bills Lake in Newego. I brought a lot of my friends up to my cottage. At our cottage we go tubing, and I usually fly off. We go wake surfing, which I love to do. We have bonfires, and we usually have a lot of smores, and mosquito bites. I also played a lot of soccer this summer. I did a grandvalley camp which was really fun. And I had odp tryouts. And my team did a couple tournaments.

Invictus

Little boy: He was ashamed to wear a jersey of the rugby team. But throughout time he loved them.

Secret Service:

Nelson M : He stood up to everyone because he knew what was right for his country. He even stood up to his own family.

Treating People: He really fulfills the verse of this year. Colossians 3:17. He knew that going against the whites would make him look good, and strong. But instead he went with them. He put his own feelings aside and forgave. And his country came together.

What I learned: I learned from watching the movie that it’s more powerful to forgive and join, then fight against. Also that to be a good leader you have to show people the right way.

Africa – Social Studies

I learned today that not everyone from Africa, is black, or the same race. And not only in Africa are there different races but all over the world theres people of all colors, and race. I also learned that there are over 400 languages in only Nigeria. And I only speak 1 fluently and thats regular english. But while I was learning these things and many other things, I had a lot of questions. One was when I learned that 90% of africans have access to cell phones. But very few have access to clean water.

Saugatuck film festival

Solar system:

I wonder how many times you would have to go around the earth to do the real solar system? I never really realized how big the world really is. And never had the perspective of how small the world is.

Running wild:

I always thought a wolverine was a wolf but it’s not. A single wolverine can take down a full grown moose.  It’s also Michigan’s mascot. I think it was a cool film to see if there coming back or not. Wolverine are aggressive strong little things.

Canyon song:

I wish I could live/visit the canyon whenever. And have like a “tribe.” And if I had history like that I would want to live out my culture to. People have lived there for 5,000 years.

Possible jobs:

  • Camera/film maker
  • rock climber
  • cliff bars – next cool athlete

Birmingham Movie Reflection

I learned after watching that movie that perspectives can change. Back when that happened the officers would do anything without thought, shoot, hang, kill, do whatever they could. But now they wish they could change that and now can never imagine why they would ever think that was ok.

Some things that stuck with me were the regret and guiltiness all of the white officers felt.

Living on One Dollar

I felt really bad when I saw how much poverty is in one place. Like they said in the movie, “a text book can only teach/show you so much.” And just being able to see not only the people who have lived like this for there whole lives go through this, but to see people who grow up the same way we did, have to adapt to that is really different to see.
