Paul had a past that very much influenced him and his was for preaching when he converted to ministry. One thing that helped Paul was the city that he grew up in. Paul grew up in a city that was large, with a great quantity of people. That helped him in ministry because he knew how to address a large crowd of people, making his sermons especially interesting and effective. Another thing that helped Paul was that he had Roman and Jewish citizenship. At the time of his ministry the Roman were largely in power and that made his traveling a lot easier. Because of his duel citizenship, Paul was able to address a crowd that with out his dual citizenship he would not have been able to address. God can use me like he used Paul in many ways. One of the ways that God can use me is in my ability to speak Spanish. I can see God using my ability in Spanish to help people all over the world and share the good news of Jesus with them. Another thing that I think will impact my life positively in the future is my brother’s allergies. I think that my experience with allergies and my ability to adapt to differences of life with allergies can help me to be able to help people with allergies and be able to empathizes with people with differences and hard ships in their lives.

This was our persecution project for Kazakhstan. My group was Lauren, Ashlyn and me. We worked well together. In our display we had a computer with our video (I was not able to get it onto the blog post,) a hanging window frame with some facts and pictures about Kazakhstan and some free bookmarks and stories on the table. We also had our research papers on the table. Along with all of that we had a small table of to the side with sign up’s for prayer alerts and Christian persecution news letter form Open Doors. Along with all of that we had a cross and papers that you could write on and stick up that would say prayer requests and prayers for the persecuted Christians world wide. I think that our stand was well thought out, covered all of the required topics and was ascetically pleasing. We learned that in Kazakhstan being a Christian is legal, as long as it is a internal relationship with you and God. If your relationship become external and you talk about God, share the word of God or lead/assist any churches, bible studies of Sunday schools it is illegal. This was shocking to me because I thought that it would be legal or it would be illegal, I never thought that there could be a in between.

Our towers is 46 cm tall. We are doing well with teamwork although our tower does not show that. Our tower will probably fall over. The best part of our tower is probably the nest on top.

I think that the strongest part of the chain is the pipe cleaners. I think this because they are essentially metal wires twisted around each other. I think that the weakest part of the chain is the paper. I think that because the paper could potentially brake under a lot of pressure. I hope that the chain can hold up all of the weight for a loon time.

This year I have enjoyed many things. The thing that I have enjoyed most during the beginning of this school year is history class. One of the things that I have learned this year is proofs. One of the biggest things that I am looking forward to is going to Timber Wolf as a grade. Overall this year has had a great start and I hope that the rest of the year will be this awesome.

Elizabeth and I were in a group to construct a boat out of some materials. On Tuesday and Wednesday I was not at class but I help make the first bit of the boat. The time our boat got was 10.2 seconds the first time and it did not finish the second race because it flipped. We used the wind and a ballon to power our boat. We also tried to make paddles but they did not work. 

I had a lot of fun this summer. I sailed every week day and got two 5th and a 2nd at the regattas I went to. I also traveled this summer. In the beginning of June I went to Washington DC to see the museums and the sculptures. I really enjoyed the Holocaust Museum. We also went to Trail West. Trail West is a Family Young Life camp in Buena Vista Colorado. I went to Trail West with my family, my cousins and their family, and my grandparents. We went white water rafting and did a ropes course and a zip line. Over all my summer was awesome and it went by so fast.

¿Qué aprendiste?

El consumo es cuanto usamos y gastamos de una cosa. América bota un increíble cantidades de basura cada año. Si todo el mundo bota la cantidad de basura que América bota necesitamos 3 planetas para poner esta basura. Además, cada día ciudadanos de América boten suficiente para llenar 63,000 camiones de basura. Si amontonamos cada camioneta de basura sólo tomaría 2 años para llegar a la luna. El consumo genera trabajos en otras partes del mundo que hacen estas cosas que tú consumes. Muchas de las personas que trabajan haciendo lo que consumes están pagados casi nada y sus condiciones de trabajo no son buenos. Necesitamos consumir menos y tratar de consumir solamente cosas en cual las personas que hicieron estas cosas están tratados justo y pagado suficiente dinero.

¿Quiénes somos?

Yo aprendí que América consuma muchísimo más de cualquier otro país y que las personas que hacen los que consumimos no están tratados justo y pagado suficiente. Algunas de las diferencias de las personas en el mundo es que por la mayoría del tiempo las personas en América, Reino Unido y otros países desarrollados consumen mucho, y las personas en países menos desarrollados como Indonesia y China no consumen mucho pero hace todo lo que consumimos. Algunas de las semejanzas entre personas de todo el mundo es que todos consumen a muchas cosas. Usamos ropa, comemos comida, muchos tienen electrónicos, usamos carros o bicicletas, tenemos zapatos y más. Estoy más conectado a otras personas por el consumo porque puedo estar usando las mismas cosas o puedo encontrar un amigo cuando voy por compras. También estoy más conectado porque encuentro personas trabajan para hacer a estas cosas que yo uso cada día. Como una comunidad global debemos tratar de ayudar a las personas que no tienen suficiente dinero para comprar comida aunque hayan trabajado por 12 horas haciendo lo que consumimos. También debemos tratar de consumir menos y sólo comprar lo que necesitamos.

¿Quién es Él?

El consumo me enseñó sobre Dios y como él está tratando de mejorar al mundo. El consumo me ayudó a ver que el mundo no es un lugar perfecto y que necesitamos tratar de hacer al mundo más como Dios lo quiere. Puedes ver esto en todas las personas que están tratando de hacer que los condiciones de los trabajadores para Gap, Nike, Adidas y otras compañías se mejoran. Dios se revela en las personas que ayudan a traer cambio y las compañías que pagan a sus empleados justamente y que no les hacen trabajar por muchísimas horas. Seguir a Jesús con respecto al consumo significa que ayudas a las personas que trabajan muchísimas horas con muy poco pago, aseguras que tus compras vienen de compañías que tratan sus trabajadores justamente. Además, significa que ayudas a traer cambio a las vidas de esos trabajadores y a las maneras que las compañías tratan a sus empleados.

¿Quién soy yo?

Cuando estábamos haciendo el desafío de consumo decidí hacer algo un poco difícil. Decidí no usar plástico de un uso. Plástico de un uso es plástico que usas un vez y después lo botas, un ejemplo de esto sería una paja. Cuando estaba tratando de no usar plástico de un uso vi que tenía que pensar en todo lo que estaba haciendo para asegurarse de que no estaba usando plástico. Un viernes estaba caminando a Fuzzy Peach con mis amigas cuando me di cuenta que no iba a poder comer el helado porque la cuchara estaba hecho de plástico. Estaba pensando en que podía hacer, decidí que iba a comer el helado con la cuchara de plástico y después reusar la cuchara en mi almuerzo el día siguiente. Solo podía hacer esto porque dije que no iba a usar plástico de un uso. Si hubiera dicho que no iba a usar plástico no hubiera podido comer el helado de Fuzzy Peach. Para aprender todo esto sobre el consumo y no usar plástico de un uso por una semana aprendí que el consumo es algo más grande de la ropa y la comida. Aprendí que el consumo es todo lo que usamos cada día.

Puedo ver los resultados del consumo en cuanto boto cada día. También puedo ver los resultados si el pago de los empleados de estas factorías sube. Mi papel como miembro de la comunidad global es asegurar de que estoy usando cosas que están hechas por factorías que pagen a sus empleados justamente. Algo más que debes hacer es investigar qué compañías pagan y tratan a sus empleados justamente y cuando sabes esto debes solamente comprar tus cosas de estas compañías. Yo comencé con el consumo sin saber nada. Después de investigar y aprender sobre el consumo se mucho sobre qué es y cómo debo ayudar al planeta y a las personas que hacen a estas cosas que consumemos. Pienso que es muy triste que estas personas están tratados injustamente y están pagados casi nada por las cosas que uso diariamente sin pensar en quien lo hizo y cómo están tratados. Yo creo que es muy importante que sabemos de donde viene nuestra ropa y comida y que aseguramos que no estamos usando demasiado de lo que consumimos.

Este año una cosa interesante que aprendí este año era sobre la inmigración. El día de inmigración era muy divertido. Aprendí mucho sobre la historia de algunos países y sobre los procesos de inmigrar. El día de inmigración hable con personas de China y del País Bajo. Algunas de las cosas más interesantes que aprendí en la día de inmigración eran sobre cambiar costumbres de un país a las costumbres de otro país.

Mi verano va a ser muy divertido. Voy a navegar a un barco que es 16 pies largo por 8 semanas 5 días a la semana. Además, voy a ir al campamento Rodger con mi amiga y voy a ir a Washington DC con mi familia. ¡Para la Navidad mis abuelos dijeron a toda la familia que vamos a ir a un campamento juntos en Colorado! Aunque no voy a estar en mi casa mucho va a ser un verano muy divertido para mí y toda mi familia.

¿Como puedo participar en nuestro democracia? Quiero ser mas informado con las noticias y quiero aprender mas de como nuestro gobierno funciona.

¿Es importante la democracia? Yo creo que la democracia es importante porque hace que las personas del pais tienen un voz en los leyes y lo que pasa en el gobierno de su pais. Yo creo que si un pais no tiene una democracia los voces de las personas en este pais no van a estar escuchado por el gobierno.

¿Que aprendí de la Union Africana? Aprendí que muchos paices tienen muchos opiniones differentes y la democracia en un paice puede ser totalmente differente que la democriacia en otro paice.

¿Que resoluciones tenian mi pais en la union africana? Mi paice tuvo un resolucion que paso, diciendo que querenos mas presa y que queremos mas libertades civiles y mas partidos que participan en los eleciones y en el gobierno.

Kenia quiere avanzar la democracia para que todo el continente de África es justo y todos los ciudadanos tienen los mismos derechos.

La democracia y una sistema de gobierno en cual los ciudadanos del país tienen un voz en escoger sus leyes y gobernadores. Por lo tanto, todos en este país tienen un voz en el gobierno y todos tienen los mismos derechos humanos.  Si tu país tiene una democracia plena significa que tienen elecciones nacionales con regularidad, todos tienen los mismos derechos, hay varios tipos de perspectivas en el gobierno. Además muchas personas participan en el gobierno y en los eleciones por su propio voluntad y todos los ciudadanos del país están bien informados sobre las noticias. Tener una democracia plena es difícil pero Kenia está trabajando hacia a tener una democracia en Kenia y en todo el continente de África.

Kenia es un régimen híbrido con la puntuación 5.11 de 10, de 167 países Kenia es el número 95. Para la categoría de procesos electorales y pluralismo Kenia tienen un 3.50 de 10. Esto probablemente significa que tienen elecciones pero el mismos partido siempre va a ganar. Por otro modo Kenia tienen un 6.67 de 10 en su participación política que me hace pensar que hay elecciones que son obligatorias en Kenia. Por lo tanto Kenia recibió a este resultado porque quiere tener democracia pero están teniendo un tiempo difícil en decidir en leyes y en maneras de hacer que Kenia tiene más democracia.

Queremos mejorar a la categoría de procesos electorales y pluralismo. Para esto queremos poner más voces el los eleciones y tener otros partidos que participan en los elecciones para qué hay más diversidad en el gobierno. De igual importancia los libertades civiles en Kenia no son muy buenos. Para mejorar a esto vamos a sacar a todos los leyes que dividen a ciudadanos de Kenia. Cuando estamos mejorando a estas problemas tenemos deseos para mejorar la democracia en Kenia y en todo el continente de África.

El apartheid es muy similar a la segregacion y los leyes de Jim Crow en los Estados Unidos. Con los leyes de Jim Crow americanos negros no podian votar, eran mas pobres, no tenian los mismos oportunidades que los blancos. Esta misma cosa paso con el apartheid en Sur Africa. La diferencia mas grande entre el apartheid y la segregacion en lod Estados Unidos es que en Sur African 80% de la poblacion era negro y en en loes Estados Unidos la mayoria del la poblacion era blanco.

Usando este informacion podemos aprender que aunque no pensamos que hay divicion/segregacion entre razas en Sur Africa o America todavia hay segregacion y necesitamos estar atentos a que decimos y como ayudamos a las personas que tienen menos que nosotros. Podemos dar gracias que no hay mas aparthied o segrecacion, pero todiavia hay. Algunas maneras del segregacion solo son por la historia de tu familia y cuanto tiempo han tenido para ganar dinero. Por esta razon podemos decir que no hay segregacion pero si hay solamente esta en maneras mas pequeñas que los leyes de Jim Crow en los Estados Unidos y el apartheid en Sur Africa.

En nuestra sociedad queiero ver cambios hacia mas igualdad y el destribucion de recursos mas iguales. Si la destribucion es igual y todos estan ganando lo mismo salario por el mismo trabajo inclusio si son hombres o mujeres o si son blancos o negros. Pero para ver este cambio que casi todos quieren nestesitamos trabajar hacia el cambio para hacer este cambio posible en nuestros ciudades, paices o en todo el mundo.

When we started out learning about Africa I knew that in different parts of Africa there were skin colors, languages, customs and religions. I also knew that there are different temperatures and climates throughout Africa. Know I know that 64% of the world diamonds come from Africa and that about half the orphans in the world were born in Africa. I know that in South Africa most people have a cell phone but very few have internet and even less have good high-speed internet like we do in the US. Knowing this I know that my assumptions that people in Africa are poor cannot be assumed for the whole continent but can be assumed for some countries like Somalia and Chad.

                Japón, un país en el océano cerca de China, su capital es Tokio. Al menos que vives en Japón nadie realmente sabe la historia llena y rica de este país aislado. Japón el país que ha pasado cientos de años sin contacto a otros países, Japón un país que tenía un papel gigante en la peor guerra, Japón el paices que tiene ciudades grandes con rascacielos y pequeños templos, con carreteras llenos de carros y bosques llenos de silencio.

Aislados del mundo por doscientos años.

                 En 1580’s los misionarios cristianos del oeste empezaron a viajar a otros partes del mundo. En estos años misioneros empezaron a venir a Japón. Barcos grandes llenos de misioneros de Europa, Estados Unidos y otros países llegaron al capital de Japón y empezaron a compartir la palabra de Dios. Después de algunos años de tener misioneros cristianos, el líder de Japón decidió que Japón no iba a tener más misionarios, que no quería christianos en su país. El líder de Japón dijo que cristianismo es prohibido y por ser un cristiano podrías ser matado o encarcelado.

                  Después de un poco de tiempo el líder de Japón realizó que él no había sacado todo el cristianismo en Japón. El ordeno que todos los misioneros y cristianos en Japón estuvieran muertos y después cero todos los puertos en Japón. Esto era una cosa gigante, ahora no podían comprar comida o cosas de otros países. Esto siguió en Japón por algunos años, al mismo vez Hollanda realmente está sufriendo porque tenía mucho comercio muy bueno con Japón que no podía hacer ahora. Después de muchos reuniones Holanda y Japón firmaron un plan. Holanda podía traer cosas a una isla muy pequeño cerca de las islas grandes de Japón. Despues persona de Japón vinieron a tomar las cosas de este isla. Porque esto pasó no había ideas ni religiones entrando a Japón pero si había comida y productos. Este aislamiento que separó Japón del resto del mundo duró por más de 200 años.

Entre aislamiento y la segund guerra mundial.

                    El aislamiento de Japón terminó cuando barcos de los estados unidos y otros países llegaron al capital de Japón y quedaron ahí. Japón, viendo que no iba a ser bueno si estos barcos quedaron allí decidieron terminar su aislamiento del mundo y dejaron que estes barcos de estos países vinieron y entraron a Japón. Algunos años después que este aislamiento térmico Japón decidió que iba a colonizar a algunos partes de Taiwán y Corea. Japón empieza a colonizar a estas partes del mundo, pero querían más. Japón decidido a atacar a China, uno de los países más grandes y poderosos de este tiempo. En una batalla fatal entre 40,000 y 300,000 personas murieron, muchos de estas personas siendo ciudadanos. Al mismos ves que Japón está colonizando a otros partes del mundo también están descubriendo ideas nuevas y están haciendo muchísimo comercio con otros países.

La segunda guerra mundial

                 Japón recién paro de batallar contra China y otros países en la primera guerra mundial. Sin mucho éxito y un relacion bueno entre Japón y países como Francia y Gran Bretaña, Japón decidió juntar con Italia y Alemania cuando la segunda guerra mundial empezó. La cosa más grande que Japón hizo en su cuando estaba en la segunda guerra mundial fue cuando atacaron a Pearl Harbor. Japón fue el último país entre Alemania, Italia y Japón para retirar. Japón retiró cuando USA lanzo 2 bombas atómicas sobre Hiroshima y Nagasaki matando entre 129,000 y 226,000 persona.

                  La historia de de Japón es muy diferente de la historia de cualquier otro lugar, y por esto la historia de Japón es tan único y diferente.

          On May 2, 1963, over 4,000 African American children meet at 16th Street Baptist Church to march for justice. The African American children wanted to be able to do all of the things that the white children were allowed to do, swim in public swimming pools, go to nice restaurants, drink out of nice drinking fountains, and be able to associate with people of the white race. For this reason, the children joined the children’s march to march for justice and equality for all.

          On May 2, 1963, the 4,000 children marched out of the church 2 by 2 singing freedom song with one of their goals is to go and talk to the mayor of Birmingham about the segregation. The children were not meet peacefully by Bull Connor (the commissioner of public safety in Birmingham) and his men. If they were not jailed by Bull Connor and his men they would return to the church and march again. On the first day of the children’s march, almost 1,000 children were jailed.

          On the following day, May 3, 1963, or Double D-Day the some of the kids that had not been jailed returned to the church bringing their friends with them. Thousands and thousands of kids poured into the church preparing to march for justice. This time Bull Connor was ready, he was not going to let anything like the day before happen again. Bull Connor had brought with him trained police dogs and high-speed water hoses. Even though the kids knew that their safety was being threatened they knew that they needed to march for their rights and the rights of their families. Parents did not want their kids to go and march but some of the kids were so determined that their parents the only option was to let their kids go and march. One boy told his dad that “Daddy, I don’t want to disobey you, but I have made my pledge. If you try to keep me home, I will sneak off. If you think I deserve to be punished for that, I’ll just have to take the punishment. I’m not doing this only because I want to be free. I’m also doing it because I want freedom for you and Mama, and I want it to come before you die.”

          When the kids started to march out of 16th Street Baptist Church, Bull Connor immediately set his dogs to work. They ripped the kid’s clothes and tore the kid’s skin, then Bull Connor put the children in school buses and sent them to the pig pens in the fairgrounds since the jails were over their legal capacity. After a while, Bull Connor realized that there were more Children than dogs so he put his firemen and their hoses to work. The hoses were so powerful that they needed at least 4 firemen to hold, control and spray the children with the hoses. The powerful blasts of water would knock any sized kid off his or her feet. Do deal with the water the kids just sat down with their backs to the spays and kept singing their freedom songs. Because of Bull Connor and his men’s violence and the children’s peaceful march, Bull Connor was framed for doing violent things and sending so many children to jail.

          The story of the children’s march is a sad story. It is sad that there was so much wrong in the world and people felt like they needed to solve the wrong and make things their way with violence. The children were marching for justice, marching to right the wrong in their world and their lives. Justice is when the kids were allowed to go to the same school as kids of the other race when they were allowed to swim in the same pools and drink from the same drinking fountains. Something has been healed since the time of the civil rights movement, others have not. We need to seek justice in everything including things that we might think have already been healed. We need to see thing from both sides so we can do what is right in everything.

          Learning about the children’s march, the peace from the African American children and the violence from the white adults leads me to believe that we need to see things from both sides before we stand up for what we think is right. What Bull Connor did was not right but he grew up knowing and learning that African Americans were bad. If he would have paused and thought about the lives of the African Americans in Birmingham his opinions might have changed and history might have played out a little different, a little better.

          In knowing what people did wrong we can try to do right, like thinking about both sides of the argument before acting or speaking. Once we know what is right we need to act on it, to help make the world a better place just like that boy did in 1963, “Daddy, I don’t want to disobey you, but I have made my pledge. If you try to keep me home, I will sneak off. If you think I deserve to be punished for that, I’ll just have to take the punishment. I’m not doing this only because I want to be free. I’m also doing it because I want freedom for you and Mama, and I want it to come before you die.”

The Old Testament points to God’s salvation of his people. The Old Testament consists of 2,000 years of waiting for a Savior to come. When we wait for Christmas during Advent we are waiting for Jesus’ birth just like the people of the Old Testament waited for Jesus. My visual is a calendar, we wait for a thing to happen and people to come just like people in the Old Testament waited for Jesus’ birth and how we wait for a day to remember Jesus’ birth during the Advent season. We wait for Jesus to come and save us from all the bad things we have done and to restore the world to what it is meant to be like. Through waiting for Christmas we have a better understanding of what it was like to wait for the Messiah to come in the Old Testament

Israel had a problem with straying from God and what God wanted for them. Someone had to take them back to God and that person was a prophet. One of the most remembered prophets was Elijah. One of the many things Elijah did was to have a sort of a “face of” with Ahab and Jezebel who were the king and queen of Israel. Elijah said that he would make two altars on mount Carmel and each of them would have to summon their gods to make a fire on the altar. Baal the god of Ahab and Jezebel did not send fire because he was a false god, but Elijah’s God, the true God sent fire and burnt up the altar. My visual for this is a man trying to rewind the time of the clock. In our daily lives, a lot of people find themselves not spending enough time with God every day. We feel like we need more hours in the day or to rewind the clock in our lives. Not having enough time in our days to be with God means that there is something in our day that we are putting in front of God. That thing that we are putting in front of God is our idol.

There are 2 different types of kings, Nagid and Melek. A Nagid is a king that is chosen by God, someone like Samuel or David. A Melek is a king that the people of Israel want someone like Ahab or Jehovah who allowed Israel to be taken into Babylon and focused their time and power on war, not God. My visual is 2 cars the car on the right is new, shiny and clean. The car on the left is old, rusted and dirty. For this visual, the car on the right represents a Melek spending his time on the nicest things and focusing on what he wants. The car on the left represents and Nagid, spending his money and time on what God wants and not what the King wants for himself.

In the Bible, there is a 40 year period of time in which Israel is wandering, waiting for the time when they can go into the promised land. In those 40 years, Israel has to trust that God will provide food and water for them. In those 40 years, they wandered in the desert, crossed the Jordan river, destroyed the walls of Jericho and went into Sechem. My visual for this is the Jordan river. Crossing the Jordan river was the most meaningful to me because it helped me feel that God will be with me when I am in the good times in my life and in the bad times of my life. Crossing the Jordan can also symbolize making a big decision and deciding what you are going to do about that decision.
