Paul

In bible we have been learning about Paul. Paul was a Christian hater but he met God on the road and God made him blind. He started to believe in God and his sight returned. God used him in that way to turn into a Christian and then to turn other people into Christians too. Paul was a tentmaker and he was also from the town of Tarsus in Cilicia. He set out to destroy churches, but God changed his heart. He was persecuted for teaching the gospel. Pauls mission was to teach that Jesus was the son of God.

God can work in people in mysterious ways. Most of the time you don’t even know he’s working in you. I don’t really know if God has worked in my life, in a big way. Maybe he is right now, who knows. There hasn’t really been one obvious time in my life where I can say that God has prepared me for his good, but maybe he’s preparing me right now. I think there have been maybe a few small things that I’ve gone through and then now have the ability to comfort others who have gone through it and help them out too.

Volcanoes

This is our volcano and poster. We studied the Vesuvius Volcano and we also learned a lot about the different kinds of volcanoes. We made volcanoes out of paper mache. Our poster had a lot of information about the volcano we studied and information about shield volcanoes, composite volcanoes, and cinder cone volcanoes. Our volcano was a model of the Vesuvius Volcano, it was labeled with all the parts of it.

Persecution PBL

Our group had the country India. We had a poster with a map of India and stories of people who are persecuted for their faith. We had cards so that people could write their own prayer requests and then hang them up so that other people could read them and pray for them too. We had a presentation that had facts and stories on it. I learned a lot about the kinds of things going on in India, like the government and the people there, but I also learned a lot about God too. I learned how he keeps his people safe in the toughest times and that he is so much more powerful then anything going on in this world. When the Christian faith is trying to be stopped it grows more.

Spaghetti Tower

So this is our tower, it is made of spaghetti and marshmallows. It’s supposed to be able to hold and egg while being shaken in an earthquake machine. It’s supposed to represent how buildings can hold in an earthquake and what kinds of things could be added to make them stronger. Our tower has supports on the bottom and diagonal supports going across, and an egg holder on the top.

Pythagorean Theorem Project

So this is a model of the Pythagorean Theorem equation. It’s a model of a park and the goal was to figure out how to put a diagonal sidewalk that went across the whole park. So we had to figure out the length of each side of the square park. (This equation only works with square things.) Then we had to use the Pythagorean Theorem to figure out the answer. We built diagrams to better visualize how the equation is used in real life.

Theme Writing

This is love: Not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear Friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

I’ve always wondered what our grade would pick as a theme. We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world.

I can show this theme many ways at school. As an eighth grader this year, I am really excited to set an example of this verse to everyone. When I was younger, whenever I saw an eighth grader in the halls or during family groups, I would always watch and stare at them with eager eyes, because I wanted to do everything they did. Even if they were walking me back to my class, I tried to walk like them. So I have to be a person that little kids will look up to and follow. This year I’m definitely working really hard on being a genuine person. If I want them to see me as a good example I can’t only be a good person when I know that there watching, but I need to be a good example all the time, because God is always watching. As this is my last year at ZCS I’m really working on being a good leader. I’m am actually a really shy person. Sometimes is hard for me to go a little bit out of my comfort zone. This year I’m trying to be the totally outgoing, and try to step out of my comfort zone, because I know that those little kids think that we’re great no matter what, and I can’t be a light to them if I’m to shy to say anything.

As Christians we can also show this theme to the world. I think this verse is such a good message to keep in the front of your mind, whether you’re playing sports, hanging out with friends, or just walking alone. Whenever I play sports I get kind of competitive, and some of the time I need to calm myself down. After I calm myself down I get really happy, and have so much more fun. And it’s not just that. I start to have a ton more love for my team, but also I start to have a lot of love for the other team too. It’s so much more fun to love. I try to fill my life with love, because I know I will love life and everything else so much more. I love all of my friends so much. I don’t know what I would do without them. They’re such an important thing in my life. It’s not hard to love them, but it’s really hard to love people who bother, bug, and annoy you. Sometimes I really don’t understand how it’s possible to love your enemies. I don’t think I’ll ever figure it out, but I’ll never stop trying. I try to step in there shoes and look at life from their view, because sometimes it helps you to understand them more, and helps you to have more respect for them. When I am just living my everyday life, I try to show love to everyone around me. If I’m at a restaurant, I always say please and thank you more than 5 times. I think that you can just show love by waving, and saying hi. Something so simple can make someone’s day in a heartbeat. Just be nice to people.

We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world. Love is the most important thing in life, because God is love.

Beginning of Year Reflections

This year has been a really good year so far. One thing I’ve enjoyed was going to camp and being with people who aren’t in my classes, and growing closer to God through that. One thing I’ve learned this year is that I’m going to have to always stay on task and get all my work done, because I know it’s gonna help me in the long run. This year I’m really looking forward to having a bit more leadership, with worship team, small groups, family groups, and things like that.

Boat Trials

Our first trial didn’t go so well, it went really slow and didn’t have enough weight in the back. So we are going to add more weight to the back and add another sail so it picks of more wind from the fan. I hope we do better on our second trial.

Summer 2017

This summer we did so many fun things. In the beginning of the summer we went to a concert, and it was so fun. Not long after I packed my bags to go to camp. Right after camp I got picked up to go to a R.V. resort. We went to house of flavors and did a lot of fishing. When I came home from that we went camping at Wilson state park. We went kayaking down the Muskegon River, it was really fun. Then we took of to go to silver lake. We went hiking on the dunes, and went swimming in our clothes a time or two.

Book Review

Wonder By: Raquel J. Palacio

Realistic Fiction

The book wonder takes place in a loving home, in the middle of a small city. The city is filled with people who are just trying to find themselves in a world that tells you who you should be. It’s filled with hospitable, loving, and kind people, but it is also filled with stupid, jerky, rude people. The loving home although is filled with the nicest people in the whole city. The most loving. The most kind. The most amazing.

The books main character is August Pullman. He is much different than the rest. He doesn’t look like the other kids. His face survived about 30 surgeries, and it’s just different. He is trying to find who he is on the inside, and forget what people tell him about what he looks like on the outside.

Augie had always been homeschooled, but he was growing up and getting ready for middle school. His parents decided they were going to start sending him to a real school. He was really nervous because he didn’t know what the other kids would think of him. He went through some rough times dealing with school drama and friendships, but in the end he was so glad that he had been sent to that school. He gets through the year with the gift of knowing who he is, on the inside and outside.

I absolutely love this book. I really am not a big reader, but I could not put this book down. They are making a movie this year, and I’m going to be the first one in line when it comes out. It’s such an inspiring book, and recommend every one read it. I would easily give it 5 stars.

African Union Day

Issues that were debated

  1. Setting up voting booths along the streets so the poor can vote.
  2. Giving the people 50% and the government 50%

I think that these would help the country, because it’s giving more equality to the country.

I enjoyed listening to other peoples ideas, and I enjoyed writing resolutions and coming up with ideas with other people.

The hardest part of this project was studying my state, because there was no information on my government, and no information on my country.

Invictus

Nelson Mandela was a great leader. He treated everybody nice, even the people that treated him like crap. In the beginning of the movie more than 50% of people were booing him, but by the end of the movie, nobody was booing at him, and they were all chanting his name. The little boy in the movie kind of represented the blacks in south Africa before the apartheid. The security guards represented the whites of South Africa. By the end of the movie they came together, and became very close. Nobody thought that Mandela could do what he did, but by the end they were all proved wrong. I learned that even when we don’t notice it we treat people different by the way they look. We treat people different that are different races, genders, ect. It’s stupid, and yet all of us do it.

Africa

I learned that in there are about 400 different languages spoken in Nigeria. I also learned that only 1 out of about 70 people have phones in parts of Africa. About 30% percent of Africa can read and write, and about 40% is educated or able to get education.

Eagle Hunters

What did I learn from this?

I think it was cool to see a girl break tradition, and to show the boys whose boss. I think that girls are looked down upon even if it’s not on purpose. This society that we live in doesn’t really celebrate girls for who they are, so it becomes the girl’s job to show the men, and the whole rest of the world, that they should be celebrated. Girls need to stand up for themselves, they can’t just wait around for applause. Girls can be anything they want to be, if they work hard for it.

Respond to this article

I think that your reward reflects the work and effort you put into your passion. If you dream about something you have to turn you wishes into plans, or you’re never gonna get very far. You have to put in the same amount of effort you want to get out of it.

Short Films

The Solar System:

It’s way bigger than most of us think. It was cool how they had lights to represent the orbit and things like that.

Running Wild:

It was weird the kinds of things to bait the wolverines.

Canyon Song:

I think it’s kinda weird how they were Christians but then they really dug deep into they real religion. They feel free in the canyons. They love they’re home.

Camp Reflection Day

Who Are We?

Who Am I?

Who Is He?

When we thought about who we are as God’s children, I thought about how we are all different. He made all of us unique. It’s ok to change a little bit, we all change, but don’t change into a copy of someone else. You are your own person and God made you, and He wants us to love ourselves. We are sinful people, but through christ there is a new creation, the old have gone, and the new have come. He made us in his own image. We are special to Him and He loves us no matter what we do. I drew 72 stars, because there are 72 of us and we are all different. If we were all the same it would be really boring. So don’t be a copy of someone else, because you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Be an original. Be you.

When we thought about how we are as a community, I thought about how we are one in Christ. We Are all different, yet we are all God’s children. We always seem to work together really well. We always seem to welcome new kids in, and are usually kind to everybody. Together we are all one community, made up of all different people.

When I thought about God, I thought about how loving he is towards all of us. He sent his only son so that we wouldn’t have to die. He is my anchor, my Savior, my hope, my king, my strength, my creator, my best friend, my firm foundation, and He is my love. He lets me love because he loved me first. He brings us all together, and He made all of us differently. He loves us more than anything, and He would do anything for us, because we are His.

Living On One Dollar

I felt like a snob when I look at everyone who worries about surviving and getting enough food and making enough to last you the day. I have everything, and yet I complain about the things I don’t have.

I learned that giving people things can give you more happiness then we you get things. To serve and not be served.

I wonder that people who live lives of poverty, and worry, complain about the things that we have. I wonder if they ever look at us and wonder why we complain, because we have everything. I sometimes wonder why I complain.

I wish the world wasn’t like this

If I could change one thing it would be myself, and the way I look at the world
