The title of my book is The Outsiders. It is written by S.E. Hinton. S.E. Hinton’s real name is Susan Eloise Hinton, but her publisher thought she would sell more books pretending to be a boy. This book was about Ponyboy and his gang. Ponyboy’s parents died in a car crash and now his brothers and him live together, but if they get into any trouble they will get separated. One day they started fighting and the oldest brother, Darry, hit Ponyboy. Ponyboy ran away with his best friend Johnny. They ran to the park. At the park they saw a blue mustang with a group of Soc’s, the rich kids of the town, following them. They started drowning Ponyboy in the fountain. Johnny was so nervous that he killed the boy who was drowning him. They decided to run from the police. They went to an abandon church and stayed there for a while. A fire started there and they saved a bunch of kids. Johnny got so hurt that he got stuck in the hospital. He didn’t get any better and he died. The gang suffered after that. In the end the Soc’s and the Greaser got along better after the whole incident. This story shows the theme, friends always have your back, in many parts of the book, such as, when Ponyboy got jumped, when the church started on fire, and when Johnny dies.
The first time they showed this theme was when Ponyboy got jumped. He was walking home from the movies alone and then a couple Soc’s started beating him up. They took out a knife and cut his hair and on accident cut his head. The gang finally found him and saved him. That is one example of when the gang had each other’s back. When Pony was hurt they took care of him.
One of the next times they showed the theme was when the fire started. When Ponyboy and Johnny saved the kids they didn’t get out in time. Ponyboys back started on fire and Dally hit him so that it would go out. Johnny got stuck and Dally had to go into the building at carry him out.
One of the last times they showed the theme was when Johnny and Dally die. They all supported each other even though everyone was sad. They worked through their problems together not against each other. When someone was down they lifted them up.
This story shows the theme, friends always have your back, in many parts of the book, such as, when Ponyboy got jumped, when the church started on fire, and when Johnny dies.
I liked this book a lot. It has a lot of good themes and everyone can relate to it differently. Everyone can learn something from this book.
