Math Project

Our problem was about 2 boys who are starting a business here is the problem:

This is what we did for the project:

Justin, Tiana and I did a math project on the Pythagorean Theorem. We decided to write a problem about a company wanting to advertise on a billboard. One of the workers needed to figure out the measurements for an the ad. He could figure out the legs but he couldn’t figure out the hypotenuse. We first wrote out the Pythagorean Theorem, A squared + B squared = C squared. Then we put 40 in for A and B. So it was, 40 squared + 40 squared = C squared. We squared 40 for A and B. Then it was, 1600 + 1600 = C squared. Then we added 1600 + 1600 and the product out to be, 3200. Then we found the square root of that. That came out as 56.6 because we rounded to the nearest 10th. Those results make sense because we did all six steps and we tried the problem multiple times. Then we checked our work and saw it came out as a right triangle. We decided our model should be a road with an exit leading off of it. We put mini cars on it to make it more creative. The billboard is in the middle of it with the measurements on the back. The billboard says to get off the exit to go to the store.

These are the pictures of our model:

Probability

I enjoyed this project because it taught me about probability distribution in a fun way. I feel like I learn better this way than just sitting and doing lessons. I remember stuff better when it was fun, so I most likely won’t forget probability distribution. I liked working in groups, so that if you don’t understand something you can ask another person in your group. I hope we can do more things like this in the future.
