And ALSO the 5th and 6th Grade Drum CADENCE!

I’ll post the 5th and 6th drum cadence here as well so all of our younger drummers can have access to it whenever they are on the internet.

Here’s the whole drumline together:

And here is just the snare part, first at a slower speed (80 bpm):

Here is the ‘official’ Beginning Band Parent Letter

Every spring we send a letter home to parents asking them to consider enrolling their 5th graders in the ZCS Beginning Band in the fall. Since we ‘lost’ some of those months to covid, I’ve just made the letter available now. You can read it here:

Yes, There Will Be A New BEGINNER BAND this fall!

So may things are up in the air this fall, and because we also ‘lost’ the end of last year, many of you have been reaching out to ask about 5th grade band classes. To be honest, everything is a work in progress at this point, but I will post here the reply I have been sending out so you can see what the plans are to make this happen. I should note that as of today (Aug. 21) the Health Department has ruled that no wind instruments can be blown indoors, no matter the number of students or spacing available in the room. That ruling is being reviewed–meanwhile we’re coming up with plans to have the Middle School bands meet outside whenever possible. Not sure yet how that will affect 5th graders. Stay posted for current info!

Here’s the plan at this point:

Dear potential band parents,

Thanks for reaching out to me about beginning band this fall. Obviously, this fall is tremendously different than in past years. We are working out a plan to get your kiddos started safely on an instrument that is a great fit for them, but the process will likely be delayed a bit into September. My plans include:
1. Starting a new group email list using this contact address.
2. Sending out a signup genius for those who would like me to do a private interview/fitting with their student. I can help with instrument choices, and also screen those students who are interested in becoming drummers. (The number of drum spaces is limited)
3. Sending a link to much additional information through your students’ homeroom teachers when school begins.
4. Setting up a schedule for like instrument classes. Students are asked to come in one day a week at the 7:40 MS start time for these classes. This year our combined band will all meet together once a week on Thursday afternoon.
I’m very excited and a bit anxious to get going this fall, but everything is a little different, so please be patient as our ‘new normal’ unfolds. I’m looking forward to what will happen!
