Volcano

Photo on 4-29-16 at 12.30 PMThis is our volcano. We created this volcano from scratch. It is made out of paper mache and cardboard. It is a cinder cone volcano so that we could have an explosive eruption. We labeled a hot spring, a lava flow, a plume, bombs, active, vent, magma chamber, crater and pipe. We had so much fun making this volcano and we can’t wait to see it erupt.

God’s Preparation

How has God been preparing you to do work for Him?

I think that God has been preparing me through all of the trips I’ve gone on. I think it was 5th grade that I went to Budapest with my family. I love traveling. I love seeing different places and seeing different cultures. When we went to Budapest, it was so fun to see all of the different people that live there. We got to go to the Budapest Market Hall. They had so many different kinds of food that we don’t have here in America. I think God is preparing me for a life of traveling when I’m older. I can use my love for traveling and my love for God to share God’s word with people around the world.

I also love kids. When my cousin Sam was an only child, we babysat him every Monday and Wednesday. Those where the highlights of my week. He was so happy and was smiling all the time. Then when Sam’s baby sisters where born, I didn’t get to see Sam that much anymore. But accasionaly we get to see Sam and his baby sisters at my grandparents house. Or we would go to see them. I love getting to see them growing up. From them having to be carried everywhere to crawling to walking already. I think that God could also use my love for kids to go around the world and teach kids from other countries who might not get to be taught or have bad schools.

There is so much that I could do in this world. I’ve never thought about all the gifts and talents I have, but now that I think about it, I have a lot of talents. I can’t wait to be older and be able to travel and teach kids and love on children all around the world.

Christian Persecution

This past couple weeks, we have been working in groups in Bible class. We have been learning about certain countries of the world. My country is Kenya. There are many stories of people who have been persecuted.

Spaghetti Tower

What went well with our tower is that it stayed up longer then we thought it was going to. What didn’t go well was that it didn’t stay up 10 seconds. My favorite part was watching all of the towers and building the towers. My least favorite part was that I had to make a slide show for our tower.Photo on 2-19-16 at 12.34 PM

Mystery

This is the link to the mystery I wrote for language arts last week. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lZK0nzfXtTqtF32DrT0lMJCbir6Gv2w90dsqzqtJfYg

Why is it important that we study Christian Persecution?

It is important that we study Christian Persecution because we need to know how to connect to those who are in countries that are persecuted. It is also important for us to study Christian Persecution because it helps us understand how fortunate me are and that we shouldn’t take it for granted. Also, so that we can help those in countries that are persecuted.

Ideal Church vs. Early Church

In the unit that we are learning, we talked about what our ideal church would be and what the early church’s ideal church was. It was fun to see what our ideal churches where. Then we looked at some scripture and looked at what the early church was like. They where very different. I thought it was a cool idea to see what we wanted in a church. Then when we read scripture, our ideal church was nothing like it at all. It was a great unit all around.

Math Project

Ethan Senti and I had a great time making this house out of styrofoam board and being creative about what we where going to put on it and around it. We where learning about the Pythagorean Theorem and we had to figure out how many square feet of shingles we had to put on the roof. So we found out how many feet the bottom of the truss was to the middle and how tall it was and then used the formula of a2+b2=c2. Photo on 1-8-16 at 9.07 AM

Thoughts about Jesus’ Crucifixion

I think that it’s amazing how Jesus decided to give up his life for us. I mean, we are all sinners and we are no where close to what Jesus is. We are pieces of trash compared to Jesus who’s the most valuable diamond in the world. I mean, he could’ve just left us to die on our own, but he is God’s son and wanted to help us become better people. This is God’s world, so he sent his only son, to come die a painful death for us. I mean, think of how panful it would be to die on a cross. You have nails in your hands and your feet. Your bleeding all over. There’s nothing you can do but watch Jesus suffer and die. After he died, you know that he was the Savior and came to save us from certain death. He had the weight of all of our sins on his shoulders as he died. I think it’s amazing that he went through all that pain just so that we could have eternal life with him. We have to accept him to go to heaven. God loved us so much, he died for us.

God Sightings

I saw God in two different ways this week. I saw God through my friends and how happy they are and close we are together. I also saw God through different ways of worship. As a worship team, we went to Hope College and got to see the worship team there work and sing songs and then we got to meet them and then we had chapel. I thought it was just cool how they did things that we don’t normally do at my church.

Theme Writing

My theme writing is over the book “Breaking Dawn” by Stephenie Meyer. It’s part of the Twilight Series. This book is about a couple, Bella and Edward, and they have a baby and then the Volturi, the rulers/enforcers of the vampires, come to kill the baby. But they stay strong in what they believe even though they could be killed for it. Stay strong in what you believe.

Stay strong in what you believe. You can find this theme in the book in many places. But one place that I think really yells this, is when Bella finds out she’s pregnant. Edward starts freaking out, so Bella calls Rosalie, Edward’s sister, and tells her what happened and that she needs to meet her at the airport when they arrive back in Washington, to help her convince everyone that it’s a good idea to keep this baby that they have no idea what it is or what it’s going to do. But no one want to tell Bella to get rid of it after she has this set of mind that she’s going to keep it. I think this really yells that you should stay strong in what you believe because she knew this thing was and could be the end of her.

Stay strong in what you believe. Another part of the book where it shows this theme is when Alice for sees that the Volturi are coming. The Cullens, the vampire family, decide to split up to find witnesses even when they could run away and never be found. But instead they stay strong in their belief that Renesmee is not an immortal child. They knew that their lives could be taken if they didn’t stop the Volturi to see this child. They stayed strong in what they believed in.

Stay strong in what you believe. The last thing I can think that shows this theme is when after the Volturi come and stop to see what the Cullens have to say, the Volturi leave and they celebrate. They believe that what they have done is right. After that they live a long happy life where they don’t have to worry. They believed that Renesmee is not an immortal child and that payed off.

I really liked this book. I think that younger kids shouldn’t read it but I think it has a great theme. I like how it makes you think. And also it gives great detail about what’s happening and what everyone looks like. I think this is a great book. Some people might not like it because it includes vampires and werewolves but I think it’s a great book in general. Stay strong in what you believe. It’s worth it.

God Sightings

A way I saw God this weekend is through the sunset that I watched when I went up to visit my grandparents up at the Conference grounds. It was beautiful and really cool to watch. Also through the lunar eclipse. I didn’t get to see it but my mom and dad saw it and took pictures.

8th grade Theme

16 September 2015

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25

I’ve always wanted to be an 8th grader. To pick out the theme the year before and get to live it and breath it and show the kids about how to live the life God wants us to. And I’m finally here. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

I can use this verse as an 8th grader to help kids know that they can live on Jesus when they need him. Everyone is looking up at you. Your the big kid of the school. It sounds intimidating, but it really isn’t. Being an 8th grader means being responsible for the way your class acts and how you act. You have every single little kid looking up to you. No pressure. You follow in the foot steps of the 8th graders of the year before. You can do what you want. Your responsible.

I can use this verse as a christian. There are people all over the world that love and follow the same God that you do. It’s kind of mind blowing. There are people on the other half of the world that are thinking and following the same person your following. There are also people up in Heaven who are praising the same person. They are actually with Him. They live with Him. He loves them and us. He loves everyone.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world. We need to believe this verse and keep it in our mind constantly. This verse helps us when we are down and need a strong foundation to keep us standing. He loves me and you and everyone else in the world even if they don’t know him yet. Let’s live this verse out and show the world the strong foundation of God.

The heart card reminds me of my heart surgery. I had my heart surgery on July 28, 2015. We left our house at 5:00 in the morning. My eyes could hardly focus. We got to Helen DeVos Children’s hospital. We went into a little room where she started my IV. I heard a POP from something that numbs my skin. It sounded just like a pop can opening when all the air rushes out. Something warm ran down my finger and dripped of the end of my finger to the ground.I looked down and saw blood dripping down my hand. Gross, I know. Next the anesthesiologist came and gave me medicine called anesthesia to make me go to sleep. Believe, that’s the weirdest form of sleep you will ever be in. The last thing I remember is them talking and asking what kind of music I like to listen to. The next thing I knew was waking up in the recovery room and wondering where my parents where. Thankfully there was someone in there to tell me where I was. Next, my parents came in and then they took me up to my room. Another one of the weirdest feelings I’ve ever felt. You feel like you’re being dragged down, and down. Then I got to sit in a room for 6 hours, making sure I didn’t move my legs.

The book card reminds me of a good movie I watched this summer. I had Olivia Muth over to watch a movie and eat ice cream. She brought over her computer to watch Netflix. We decided to watch Twilight. One of the best movie on the world. My eyes started teary eyed. I felt a little tear drop fall down my face. It’s such an amazing movie. It has so much love and devotion in it. The ice cream in my mouth started to melt and dripped down my throat. It tasted so good! I had chocolate chip ice cream. Yum! Then we went over to her house for a sleepover and had a Twilight marathon. We stayed up until 5:00 A.M.Those movies are the best.

The flag card reminds me of the Fourth of July. For the fourth of July we went up to camp at Brower Park. It’s in Mecosta County. I love going there because we always go there with my grandparents friends the Nynheuisis. They have a boat so we always go out and tube and look for turtles. When we go tubing, I can feel the water splashing up onto my face from Ian spraying me. Then we go and get ice cream every day. There is a shop along the river and we go and get ice cream. I love the monster one. It tastes so good! It’s so much fun because we tube on a tube called Big Mable which you sit on. It’s so much fun!

New Addition

The new addition is awesome! It’s big and has lots of room and should be up and running for a long time. The furniture is awesome. The doors are cool because they are all glass and you can see through them. I can’t wait for our year to be so much fun! This year is going to be fun!!!!

Nelson Mandela terminó a apartheid.

Unos ejemplos son: Hablar=Falar, Pero=Más, Gracias=Obrigado(a), R(r)io=R(h)io, Vivir=Morar, Playa=Praia, Pan=Pãu. Me gusto tenerla aquí mucho.

Picture Book Advice

Edward:
1- Write an average of 32 pages with 350 to 1,000 words.
2- Don’t worry about what you character looks like.
3- Respect the child as someone who knows right from wrong, loves to laugh but also want to know how the world really is.
4- Say where the story is happening.

Fox:
1- Do not write things like: he gasped, she spluttered, etc. Use the word ‘said’. The gasping and spluttering, etc. should be obvious from the situation, if writing is effective.
2- Do not write to teach. Children and publishers alike detest heavy morals.
3- Do not use alliterative names or titles, such as Izzie the Ice cube, Kenny the Koala or Tommy the Tired Teddy. Use names, which reveal of the character.

Montes:
1- Writing a book is 10% science and 90% art.
2- The text of a picture book should be short: no more than 1,000 words, preferably less than 600 words. A picture story book should be less than 2,000 words, preferably 1,000 to 1,200.
3- Editors love humor.

Desafío de Consumo

3. Describe qué vas a hacer.

Math Blog

The concept I didn’t understand was the concept of how to find the slope of something. I didn’t understand how to find the slope. So I asked my friend Trinity and she told me what to do. She told me that what you do is  you find to points on a line that are on two lines and you go up from one of the points and count how many boxes you go up. Then you go over to either the right or left depending on where your other dot is. Then you put the number you counted when you went up, over the number you counted when you went over. So the second picture below is our example. The two points are (1,1) and (5,-2).  This is a negative line. They go down from the point at (1,1). You count down from (1,1). The rise is 3. Then you do the run. So you go from where you just finished and go over to your other point at (5, -2). Your run is 4.  So you put the rise/run. Your numbers are 3/4. Then you divide, and your slope is 0.75.

A real life problem could be the following. The steepest road in the world is in New Zealand. The first picture is the slope. The rise is 1, as you can see. Then the run is 3. You put the rise/run. So your numbers are 1/3. Then you divide. So your slope is 0.33 continuing.

New Addition Dedication

The dedication is a very important part of our new addition here at ZCS. The new addition, I hope is awesome because that is where I’m going to be spending my 8th grade year at ZCS. So, everyone at ZCS wrote on a rock they got from their teachers. Then we are going to meet with our family groups, head outside to the construction zone and put the rocks in a big hole thing and pray over them. What I wrote on my rock was Peace, Love, Hope. I wrote this because I hope our new addition is peaceful, and that we will be loving to each other. And I wrote Hope because I hope we will grow in our faith during 8th grade. On the other side I wrote the names of my cousins. Max and Wes. Because they have gone threw a lot and they have helped me grow in my faith by seeing what they have gone threw.

¿A quién buscas?

—¡Raboni!

Somos suyo siempre.

Modern and ancient stable food supply and art is cool.

Me and my group had the part of civilization called stable food supply. What we did for stable food supply was we did a poster that has all the interesting stuff they ate and eat. We also have some unleavened bread that Caleb got. For art we have a pyramid because thats a art. Also we have a museum to show that they like showing of their art. We also have a drawing competition. I hope more people do it. We also have a sarcophagus to show that that was also a art. A art of mummifying dead people. Eew! I don’t want that job. I think we did a good job. Thanks everyone for your support!

Reflecting as a learner

1. My favorite subject that I am leaning about right now is science. I’m enjoying science because we are learning about earthquakes. Also we learned about this weird substance that is made of cornstarch and water that is to represent one of the layers of the earth that is a like a water with chunks.

2. The skills that I am learning right now in language arts is to put a comma before a dialogue. Also in science I am learning the skill of finding places on a map with only numbers. Also some more skills I am learning in band is to get to higher notes and to get them nice and good.

3. I like learning by watching videos and writing notes down on a document on my computer like in language arts. I think it helps me to have stuff down on a document because then I don’t loss all the information I wrote. Also I think another skill I’ve learned is the skill of writing neatly because earlier in the year I wrote really sloppy.

Stress

d0344c61345341219728362639024736 I think I get stressed out a lot when I’m golly in soccer and I let in a goal. I think I get stressed out about that because I get mad at myself because I let in a goal. I think i can deal with this better by telling myself that I tried my best and that everyone makes mistakes. Also, I think I can deal with it better by practicing a lot with Angelina.

Serve and Skate

I loved going to Evergreen Commons. I was kinda scared at the start because I didn’t now what to expect but once I meet a lady named Veryl, I was so happy and I had so much fun. Me and Veryl had so much fun. We did word search and we had to find out words. I fell in love with Evergreen Commons after Serve and Skate. I think our small group really lifted the spirits at Evergreen Commons. I see that I really want to work with people like that when I grow up.

Nutrition and Exercise

What have I learned in Health and Fitness? I have learned that it is good to eat in moderation. Also that it is good to get into your target heart rate zone.

Why does this matter? It matters to eat in moderately because it gives you all the nutrition you need to have a good day. It is also good to eat in moderately because it gives your body what it needs to run all day. It matters to get into your taget heart rate zone because it helps you body to be fit.

What should I change? I think I should change something. I think that I should change to watching what I eat.

Steps to Ratify the Constitution

Some points of a paper I read about the constitution is that the Federalists believed that the rejection of the constitution would lead to chaos. Also some people believed that the delegates in Philadelphia did not have the power to write a new constitution. My last one is that some people thought that they should h ave a bill of rights and that eventually, James Madison agreed that a bill of rights was needed and those are my 3 facts about the ratification of the constitution was important.:) 🙂

What are some acts in the American revolution??????? :)

I think one of the acts is when we won the battle of Saratoga. I found out that we had Benedict Arnold as commander. Also I think our strength was that we have good aim and that the British didn’t so that was a big strength for us. Even though the British where all nice and fancy with there big red coats and all. But I’m thankful to all the people who gave there life for our freedom. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Albigence Waldo. What does he tell us about the harsh winter at Valley forge??????

I think Waldo tells us that it was not easy at all. Really. You could get sick from EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such as the chicken pox, a fever, and any other sickness. Also they wanted to go home and see there families. If I where one of them I would be sooo sick and tired of being without my family because my family is like my life.  I’d hate it to be one of them. Also I think he tells us that it was super hard for them. If I could go back in time to that time I would. I would make sure I planted way more food then usually so that I would have a lot left over for them. also I would be very brave and help get the hurt of the battle field. What would you do if you could go back in time??????:) 🙂 🙂 🙂

Which of the acts do you think was the harshest and that lead to the american revolution? Why?

Hey, I think the quartering act was a big one because it was not fare for the colonists. It meant that they had to have a random person live in there house and have the person want three meals a day and they want a nice bed to sleep in. What if I was poor and only have enough to give them one meal a day. Or I only have two beds. One for me and my daughters and one for my husband and my son. I don’t have enough. 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

Such a cool song.

Hey peeps in band. Do you like the new Colonial March we play. It’s kind’ve high for us trombones but it sounds awesome. Keep practicing, don’t think ” Ohh, they wont notice if i don’t practice for a week” we do watch you. I’M WATCHING YOU. : ]

My book recommendations

I recommend that you read some books like “Captain Kate” by Carolyn Reeder. Also the poems from the book “The Light in the a Attic” by Shel Silverstein. A good book for girls is “Sarah, Sencilla y Alta” by Patricia Mac Lachlan. I know a lot of girls in our class have read that book.  A good one for the girls who love history or social studies like Lydia, should read a book called ” The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew” by Margaret Sidney. People how like mystery should read the 39 clues by Linda Sue Park. Also people who love nonfiction should read “The Forbidden Schoolhouse” by Suzanne Jurmain. Even the title gives me the creeps.
