A week in review: May 6-10

This week we really got into the swing of our ABC Countdown with donuts, experiments, games, fitness and hats! Make sure to ask your child about the mentos experiment. Our class joined another kindergarten class; each class tried a different type of mentos! Ask them whose volcano went higher! Thank you to all the parents who have donated for our Countdown it wouldn’t be possible without you! We have had such a productive week of hands on learning!

I would also like to thank everyone for all the beautiful cards and gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week. I am so very blessed by each and every one of you and so thankful for you all! You are so appreciated! Praying that you all have had a great weekend and a Happy Mothers Day!

Important Dates:

  • May 16: All school chapel-9:00 am
  • May 29: 2 PM will be our PBL Presentation. This is a date change, originally it was May 30 but the room is no longer available to us.
  • June 5: Field trip to Holland Farmers Market
  • June 5, 6: No PM bussing
  • June 6: Last day of school

Additional Information:

Due to some conflicts with the music room we will now be having our end of the year PBL presentation on May 29, along with Mrs. Bronsink’s class, in the media center (library). It will start at approximately 2:30 p.m. and will most likely last until near the end of the day. You are welcome to stay afterwards and enjoy some cookies with us! (If you would be willing to donate some cookies or baked goods for this celebration please shoot me an email!) Please mark this on your calendars and feel free to let grandparents know as well! This celebration is so much fun because it allows you to see how very much your kindergartener has grown this year!

I sent out a sign up genius on Friday evening for the Holland Farmer’s Market trip. Thank you for the great response. If you would still like to go please let me know because I don’t want anyone to miss out! Also, if you signed up could you shoot me an email about how many kids you can take in your car so I can figure out the best way to get us all there with as few cars as possible (the parking can be a bit tricky!).  Looking forward to this fun day with the kids and praying for lots of sunshine!

In just a few short weeks the Memorial Day Parade will be here! If you would be interested in walking with our class please let me know as I will need several volunteers to help keep our children safe and keep things running smoothly!

Curriculum:

Bible: This week we started studying the fruits of the spirit as well as listening to the story of Peter healing the lame man. We talked about how the healing was possible because it was done in the name of Jesus. We discussed how powerful the name of Jesus is!

Word Wall Words: (go) green and white!!!

Daily 5: This week we continued to work on all five parts of the Daily 5. I was able to meet with each group once and everyone should have a new book to take home. I have been trying to send the books home with them on Thursday and if you could practice their books and blending cards over the weekend and send them back on Monday that would be great! Please continue to encourage your child to read even in the hectic pace of this month.  The more exposure they have to print the better readers they will become!

Phonics: This week we worked on the sounds the vowel “i” makes.

Math: We continued to work on finding different ways to make 10 by using manipulatives and then making charts to see the equations.

Writing Workshop: We are continuing our “How To” writing. This week I helped them with the first few steps in how to make a snowman and they came up with what they would do last. In the upcoming week they will start to write these on their own.

Afternoons: Our afternoons this week have been filled with so many things including making donuts, learning about experiments (ask your child about the book we read entitled God Thought of it First), and playing lots of different games. We also enjoyed art as well as our play times and quiet times!

HAT DAY!
