December 16-20

I hope that this letter finds you rested and relaxed after the holiday season.  My prayer is that you all enjoyed some wonderful time with your family and friends as you celebrated Christmas.  It was a great time in the Arnold house but we are all ready for a normal schedule again! It seems like yesterday we had our last day of school but it has already been two weeks! We had such a great week before Christmas! A special thank you to Jill Koning and Stephanie Klein for putting our Christmas celebration together and to all who helped and donated to make it a success! It was so fun to watch the kids enjoying the celebration! Thank you too to the large number of parents who came to cheer us on at the Jingle Jog. What a great way to raise money for our sister school in the Philippines! Now get ready 2020, here we come!

Curriculum:

Word Wall Word: and  So far this year we have done:  I, the, a, look, see, at. go, we, me, up, is, like and here. Keep practicing these at home as it will make the beginning stages of reading much easier for your child!

Bible: We finished our study of the Christmas story by completing our Nativity scenes and saying our verse, Luke 2:6,7.

Phonics: This week in phonics we continued to practice saying words slowly and listening closely for sounds!

Writing workshop: We are continuing working on making lists. This past week we made a list of school words and supplies and then made our own Christmas lists.

Math: We practiced graphing together as a class by eating gingerbread cookies. We graphed the part of the gingerbread cookie that we ate off first! We also continued simple addition in math centers as well as finished up using a 5 group penny strip to help us add with 5.

Handwriting: We practiced making the letters, C, O and Q the school way.
