The Underground Railroad

Tell The Story

Question 1: Tell me about your life as a slave. Where did you live? What kind of work did you do? What were some of the hardest things about your life?

Answer: I lived in Louisville, I worked out in the wheat fields, the hardest thing was getting taken away from my family when I was only 5.

Question 2: Tell me about your escape from the South. Why did you decide to flee. How did you travel? How did you find your way? How did you survive? How did you feel?

Answer: I decided to flee when I was tired of working in the wheat fields every single day. I traveled by running through the trees and riding in wagons. I found my way by following the north star. I survived by going to houses in the underground railroad. I was very excited to be free!

Question 3: Tell me about the people you encountered on the Underground Railroad. What kinds of people did you come across? What are some of the different ways that they helped you? How did the abolitionists influence the Underground Railroad.

Answer: The people who helped me were very kind, helpful, and did everything to keep me safe. They helped me stay safe, they gave me food, and they transported me in wagons. The abolitionists wanted slavery to be done so they thought the underground railroad was good because it helped more slaves to be free.
