Volcano

Our volcano is a cinder cone. We have  a hot spring and a geyser near it and the geyser is going to erupt along with the volcano. We made our volcano out of paper mache and then painted it brown with red streaks down the side as a lava flow. Our group effort was great and we got along and got the job done and looks great. I would like to work with Isaac and Blake again sometime in the near future.Photo on 4-29-16 at 11.11 AM

God’s Preperation

I think God has been preparing me to do work for him in a lot of different ways. I think that one example is that he has gifted me with athleticism. I need to use that gift to honor him, not myself. Meaning that I have to use my gifts that he has given me to the fullest of my ability to honor God, not myself.

Christian Persecution

There is Christian Persecution in North Korea right now. Every day hundreds of Christians are being persecuted. The leader of the country is Kim Jong Un. He sends his soldiers out to look for underground churches and kill everyone in it.

Something that went well was at the beginning it was turning out very nice so we had our hopes up.

Something that went wrong was that we were dumb and put it in the microwave to soften the marshmallows but it ended up ruining our tower, another this is that we went for a placement test with the egg, but the egg fell and broke the tower.

My favorite part was the begging of the building because everything was going well.

My least favorite part was that when everything went wrong everybody got mad at each other and brought down our team spirit.

The Missing Golf Bag

It was April 6, 2020, and T.J. Clark was on the practice putting green at the Masters golf tournament. He was putting with his caddie by his side named Travis Miller. Also on the green was Daniel Smith the number one golfer in the world. Also his caddie named Robert Anderson was on the green with him. There were a few other spectators near by. They were all hoping to get a signature from Daniel. Coming to the green now was Jayden Jones, he was the second best player. His caddie’s name was Ben Carston. He was a great golfer but not as great as Daniel. Once T.J. finished putting he left the green to go to the bathroom. His tee time was in ten minutes. His caddie, Travis Miller, exited the green where Daniel left his bag. When his caddie walked by the same place to go the first tee, he bent down to pick something up. Then he made his way to the first tee box. Jayden had the same tee time a T.J. so he exited the green next in the exact same place where Daniel and his caddie left.  When it was time for Daniel to leave the green, he turned around and couldn’t find his golf bag. He suspected the Jayden took it so he went to the authorities and told them that his bag was stolen and that he suspected that it was Jayden. So the police took Jayden into custody for questioning. They asked him where did you go after you left the green and he said the tee box. He also had a witness with him and he confirmed it so he was not guilty. The police also took his caddie and he brought in a witness as well. He said that he went to the bathroom and then to the first tee box. The police took in one final suspect the caddie of T.J. Clark named Travis Miller. The police asked him why he bent over by Daniel’s bag and he said that he had dropped a tee for T.J. They took his caddie into custody and asked him questions. He answered the questions with no sign of stress or a nervous twitch. But and police officer named James McNab saw that he never looked anyone in the eyes. But the police officer at the scene of the crime found the golf bag in the men’s restroom, he dusted it with prints and what came up was very unfortunate. The fingerprints matched those of Ben Carston. So they arrested Ben and set free Travis Miller. T.J. ended up winning the Masters and is now the number one golfer in the world.

Why is it important that we study christian persecution?

It is important to study christian persecution because we need to know what is going on around the world to christians that live in countries that don’t have freedom of religion like our country. Christian persecution has been going on even since Bible times to now. When you think about it, that is a ling time. Hundreds of people die every day from this, and we need to put an end to it. Most of the people who die are underground christian pastors who are drawing others closer to God. They are martyred for doing this and that is very bad, we need to put an end to this because we are losing hundreds of lives every day and that is not a good thing.

Ideal Church vs Early Church

The ideal church is more of a come and relax church, when we threw out ideas for what it would be like for an ideal church, things came out like, a Starbucks, a hot tub, etc. But the early church was way more strict, they all got together once everyday, they shared every thing. This is kind of a mind blowing thing for me because the churches now still aren’t the same when they were back in Bible times, that is cool but it is also mind blowing.

God Sightings

I saw God this weekend in the weather. How the past week was like in the 70s and now it is a high of like 50. Also the frost on the ground in the mornings, when the sun just comes up and the light goes on the frost it is a pretty cool sight.

Nitrogen Cycle

I had the Nitrogen Cycle. I think the Nitrogen Cycle is a very important cycle because it includes a bunch of important stuff like denitrifying bacteria, animal waste, decomposing, and of course Nitrogen. The cycle goes first by the Nitrogen in the atmosphere, then it spreads and goes to Ammonia and also goes into nitrates. An animal eats a plant that has nitrogen on it and when the animal has to go, the waste goes down into the ground. The animal waste goes to decomposers that goes to ammonia. Nitrogen goes into a lake and the nutrients in the nitrogen help grow Bluegreen algae. A fish will eat the algae and will die, the fossil is decaying by organic matter, also it goes into denitrifying bacteria in the air. That feeds into nitrates, and the nitrates feed into denitrifying bacteria and that feeds into the Nitrogen in the atmosphere and the cycle starts over again.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine is like the wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had it’s foundation on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25

Theme Writing

In the spring last year, the whole seventh grade went to Camp Roger to pick out a theme for the upcoming year. While we were at Camp Roger to pick out the theme, we did a number of activities to help our leadership for the upcoming year. One of the activities we did was a zip-line across 100 yards or so of land. At the beginning you had to climb up a 20 foot pole to get to the platform of the jumping spot. The trust part of that is that there is three kids holding and rope and giving you slack while you climb so if you fall, they would be the ones to catch you. Also about picking the theme we chose to pick a theme to the extent of 100 years of ZCS. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

This year is my last year at Zeeland Christian. So that means that us eighth graders are the leaders of the school. This years theme means to me as a eighth grader is by all of the school has to have a faith built on the rock because this year everybody will have “storms” coming their way, whether it’s friends, or if it’s a new school for you, or even just school work in general. But if we have our faith built on the rock then we will be able to get through the tough times.

Now that this is my last year at Zeeland Christian means that next year I will be going to high school. So now I will have to take everything I’ve learned here and take it to an even bigger world out there. Now that high school sports have cuts, I will have to work really hard. But if I get cut, I will have to have my faith on the rock because sports are a big part of my life. And when I go to college I don’t know where I’m going (obviously) but I do know that if I go somewhere where I don’t really have friends that I know it will be tough. But if I have a firm foundation on the rock then God will help get through it.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world by being leaders in the school and representing what to do and what not to do, also by spreading God’s word wherever we might end up. Now that we are eighth graders we need to take responsibility, we can’t do that on our own so we need to have our faith built on the rock so when things don’t go they way you expected it to, we will not stumble or fall because our faith is built on the rock. We

can all spread God’s word wherever we end up by just starting a little Bible study, or even just have lunch with someone and praying for them.

Descriptive Writing

The anchor reminds me of summer days on our boat.

This year we got a cottage on Lake Macatawa. We have a mastercraft. We like to wake surf behind it and wakeboard. When we are surfing in Lake Mac the water is a gross brownish, greenish. But when we go into Lake Michigan the water is crystal clear. It is cool when storms roll in across the lake. The clouds were dark black and the lightning light up the sky.

The suitcase reminds me of when my family and I went to Pennsylvania.

This summer we went to Pennsylvania to visit my great-grandma’s 90th birthday. While we were there we stayed one night in Philadelphia. The city is crazy packed with people. While we were there the Detroit Tigers played the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore is about two hours away. When we got to Baltimore the city was beautiful. And the stadium was one of the nicest i’ve ever been to. When the Orioles scored fireworks boomed and banged.

The heart reminds me of the Little League World Series.

Last year my grandpa and grandma took me and some of my cousins to the Little League World Series. It was amazing there. The fans were crazy, (especially Sadie for this guy named Dallon Cave, She thought he was hot) . While we were there we saw a lot of home runs by kids my age. It was a dream of mine to go there and play, but going there to watch was still amazing. During the game we saw an Illinois team play a Nevada team. The Illinois team won but after a few months they found out that they had cheated. After the Little League World Series we went to Louisville, Kentucky. While we were there we got to go in the Kentucky Derby track.

Also we went to where they made the Louisville slugger bats. It was amazing how they made the bats. They hand carved the bats and machine carved the bats. When they hand carved the bats they had this special tool the carved the shape of the bat, while another machine spun the bat really fast.

New Addition

This year is the first year we get to be in the new addition. We will be the first class to graduate from it. It is nice because we air conditioning and it is like 90 degrees outside. So this year will be nice with the new stuff and the new addition. It will be a fun year in the new addition.

Africa Union Day

African Union Day was about discussing the situation in Burundi. All the African countries discussed what we should do about the Hutu’s and Tutsis and what we should do with them and how we should stop them. Also we discussed the president running for a third term. We discussed what we should do with refugees and what we should do with them, like if we should build refugee camps.

The most significant thing I learned was that the Hutu’s and the Tutsis are a big deal, not just a little war. They have been fighting for decades.

My favorite thing I liked was the debate because we all got to team up or whatever and got to defend the same things and argue different things.

Apartheid Response

The relationship changes throughout the movie when the jersey kid turned down the Springboks jersey, but at the end of the movie jersey kid was listening to the final game with the police. Also I think that the team changed throughout the movie when they got to go to the jail sell of Mandela and the place where he was at. Mandela changed a little bit throughout the movie when he walked out at the end of the rugby match with a Springbok hat on and a Francois Pinaar jersey on. And also Francois changed in the movie by when he stood in the jail sell of Mandela and shut the door and looked out the window and realized how small it was.

This represented South Africa by uniting blacks and whites. I like when Francois said that they didn’t have the support of 12,000 South Africans but the support of 43,000,000 South Africans. I also thought that what united South Africa was when the team went to this little towns of all blacks, and when they first got there everybody was chanting, “Chester! Chester!” Because he was the only black player on the rugby team. And finally they got respect when after the rugby match almost all the stadium was chanting, “Nelson! Nelson! Nelson!” And it wasn’t just black fans but black and white fans.

The Price is Right

Math was really fun for the last two weeks. It was really fun to see how game shows work, how they only have a something and something chance of winning. It was also fun to make the game. What I learned about probability is that you can get an easier chance to get a better probability or a bad probability. I also learned that probability is everywhere. Like getting into a car crash that is probability. I like learning this math way better than learning the other math because we get to games to learn how to do this typer of math.

European

T0day improved a lot because last time we had to go through customs then go exchange money then get a bumper sticker. Today all we had to do was go exchange money then buy a bumper sticker. I don’t know what I would have done if I lived in Germany and wanted to go into other countries. That would be a pain in the butt. You even have to go through customs to get back in you’re own country! I could do it now if I lived in Germany because it is much easier.
