God at Work

God prepared Paul for a life of ministry. God prepared him by having him be raised in a big city where he learned how to talk to big crowds of people. God also prepared him by having him be a Jewish and Roman citizen. God is preparing me for what he has planned for me to do. I don’t know exactly what he is preparing me for, but I know it will be what God wants.

Afghanistan Christian persecution project

This week, me and my group had to make a presentation of Christian persecution in Afghanistan. My group ended up making two posters, two voice-overs of real stories of persecution in Afghanistan, and we made an “undeground Church”. We made the underground church, by making a small space with cardboard and we put a mini church under there. I learned a lot about Christian persecution during this project, but I mostly learned that Christians persecution is still going on today and that it is going on all around the world.

Marshmellow Spaghetti tower

In science, we needed to make a marshmallow spaghetti tower and have it hold up and egg while it undergoes an “earthquake”. It was very challenging because we were on a budget and my group almost ran out of money. It was also very fun making the tower because we needed to make a strong base.

Chain reflection

I think the tinsel is the best part of our chain because it is the strongest.

I am not sure that the string will stay strong because it has snapped in the past.

We used all of the tinsel because it is very reliable and it hasn’t snapped for us yet.

Boat Blog

During science we needed to make boats, this is my boat. I learned about many things that can float. I also learned that before you start something, try materials out. I also learned about how sails need to work in order to make a boat go far. I was really surprised on how our boat did. Our boat did very good in my opinion, we didn’t have a competitive time but we got 13.5 seconds.

What I did this Summer.

This Summer I went to the Philippines. I went to the Philippines with a group of people from my school, along with some teachers. I had a lot of fun on that trip. I enjoyed getting closer to the students at GCCS and I made a lot of friends too. I also enjoyed learning more about the Philippines as a country. During the trip we went to Puerto Galera, I enjoyed getting closer with my group while at the resort. Going to the Philippines was the highlight of my year. The rest of the Summer was pretty uneventful. I had a couple of friends over during the Summer and we had lots of fun. Overall, I enjoyed this Summer and learned a lot too!

Invictus Reflection

I saw reconciliation in the movie, by all of the people that weren’t rooting for the South African team at the start but then started rooting for them as the movie went on. The boy at the start of the movie didn’t want anything to do with the national team and even turned down a free jersey of the national team. At the end of the movie, the boy was sitting with police officers around their car listening to the game and shouting for joy and dancing because the national team won the game.

Africa Reflection

I don’t really think that my view of Africa really changed after today. I learned a lot of new facts about Africa but I don’t really think I have changed my view on Africa. I am looking forward to learning new facts about Africa in the next couple of weeks. I think I will have fun learning about a specific country too. I enjoyed the simulation, I think it was fun because we got to have a different experience compared to everyone else/everyone had a different experience.

.

Simulation Response

One challenge that I faced while working for my county was saying hello to each person in my native language. A couple of challenges I faced while being a tourist was getting to the country that I wanted because I needed to pass through many countries, another challenge I faced was needing to exchange my money every time I went to a different country. One benefit for each country to maintain their own situation is that they have something to differentiate themselves from the other countries.

Themes of the Old Testament

Names: God has many names, and each of his names describes him. Some examples are YHWH means loving relationable God and El means creator and powerful God. My Visual for this theme was candles lighting each other because my name (Luke) means light-giving. I did this visual also because it looks like one candle is giving light to the other candle and I think that this visual represents the meaning of my name. I think it is really cool how every name in the old testament has a meaning. One of my favorite names of God is Yahweh Ro’i because it reminds me that God is always looking over me and that he always is with me.

Conflict/Doubt: It’s good to ask questions and look for answers when you are confused about something in the Bible. Bring your questions and doubts to God or share them with someone you trust. The visual that I chose for this theme is the logo for Camp Geneva. I chose this because I used to go to Camp Geneva for overnight camps, and it was fun but I would get homesick. I would doubt that God would keep me and my family safe while I was away. It is very reassuring to hear that even people in the Bible struggled with doubts.

Call

God called Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to act, and they did what God told them to do. We need to remember the promises that God tells us. My visual is the logo to the church, “La Casa de mi padre”. My family was called to help plant this church in Holland. My family felt that God was calling us to help plant this church. God calls us to do things that he knows will impact us. God knows what he is doing when he calls us to act on things.

Slavery/Salvation

Our struggles become part of us. Both Moses and Joseph went through struggles during their lives. The visual that I chose for the theme is my family picture. I chose this because whenever me and my family go through struggles we always find ways through the struggles and we end up fine. Struggles make a person, struggles help people learn things. God helps us through struggles.

Sinai Law

The 10 commandments are God’s wedding vows with Israel. We show love by following vows, Golden calves distracted us. I chose the visual of a basketball and a football because sometimes those are my golden calves and I spend too much time thinking about sports. I need to spend more time with God instead of spending more time with sports like basketball and football. Sports and schoolwork are sometimes my golden calves because they take up most of my day. Sports and schoolwork also take up most of my thoughts because sometimes I think about a test that I have or a game.

Sent to Promised Land

Israel trusted God a lot. Like while they were crossing the Jordan river, while they were wandering in the desert, and while they were in Jericho. I chose a visual of an airplane because when I was around 11 I got the opportunity to Ethiopia with my parents to pick up my sister and bring her home to the U.S. I had to trust God while we were on the trip because I was really nervous to be on an airplane, I trusted God and he made sure that I was safe. God has us trust him all the time. I have to trust God many time each day.

Something Rotten

Israel worshiped other gods because they would have been popular if they did. But Elijah came and spoke truth to power.  The visual that I chose for this theme is someone who is crossing his fingers behind his back. I chose this because sometimes I am tempted to lie and when I lie I start feeling rotten. The Israelites were tempted to worship other gods. They were tempted to do this because they would be popular if they did it.

Slide to Destruction

Decisions that Israel and Judah’s kings made lead them to exile. Instead of being exiled, God draws us close to him.  The visual that I chose for this theme is a picture of someone falling. When I do something wrong, I feel like I am falling into exile or that i’m falling into discipline. Just because we do something wrong doesn’t mean that we have to go into exile. God stops us from going into exile.

Field Trip Reflection

I learned a lot of things about native americans  during our field trip. I really enjoyed learning about the culture and religeons of the native americans. I learned that sometimes native americans are treated differently than others. Learning about Standing Rock and what is going on there right now really stood out to me and it made me think, would I like it if someone came into my house and just decided to put a really big pipeline through it. I now think differently about native americans now that I know a little bit more about their story and how they live.

One Dollar A Day Reflection

After watching One Dollar a Day, it made me think about little ways that I can conserve money, such as even turning the water off while im brushing my teeth. Watching this video made me think about who we consume things compared to how people consume things in Guatamala. In my family we eat until we are full but some families in Guatamala eat until they have no food left on their plate because they don’t know when or if they will be able to eat again that day.
