Bienvenidos – Welcome!!

Bienvenidos – Welcome

I hope you all had a blessed summer, and I am excited to welcome you to Spanish!  1st-3 grade classes will meet in their classroom, and 4th and 5th graders will come to the Spanish room #83. I know Spanish is a relatively small part each students’ time at school, in fact it’s only twice a week, but I truly hope to love your students well, grow in our relationships with God and each other, and of course have LOTS of fun learning Spanish!  If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, etc. please let me know!  lslenk@zcs.org

Here we go!  Looking forward to a great school year together!

September

1st, 2nd, and 3rd – We’ve been having fun learning about one another with our “estudiante misterioso” guessing game!  We will also be reviewing some Spanish basics like numbers, colors, days of the week, months, and greetings! We are looking forward to reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish!

4th and 5th – We’ve been having fun learning about one another with our “estudiante misterioso” guessing game!  We’ve also are spending time talking about why study Spanish/foreign language, and where Spanish is spoken with our countries/capitals of Central America (4th) and South America. (5th).

First weeks of School!

Spanish is off to a great start!  We’re focusing on getting to know one another with “All about me” pages and a “mysterious student” guessing game. We’ll also start our weekly tradition of Worship Wednesdays tomorrow!  I love sharing what we’re thankful for and getting in the habit of gratitude.  Plus, it’s a meaningful way for us to use our Spanish!

Check out one of our favorite silly songs from the beginning of the year to remind us how we ask to go to the bathroom in Spanish! 😉

November

Hola a todos.  Hard to believe it’s already November!  We have SOOOO much to be thankful for, and I love getting to practice gratitude with students every Wednesday! We always share things we are grateful for in Spanish and sing a worship song.  We talked briefly on Tuesday about the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, and we learned that this holiday is a time to remember and honor those in our families who have passed away. We also are going to be starting new units very soon!

1st and 2nd graders are learning a new game called Taco Tuesday, and we’re finishing our unit on “familia.” We’ll soon start our unit on “escuela!”

3rd graders are finishing a project all about their family and have been describing each person. We’ll be introducing our next unit all about school next week!

4th and 5th graders are presenting their country/capitals projects and then will be starting new units as well! Next 4th graders will begin a short unit on their family and the verb “ser” and 5th graders will begin a unit on the Running of the Bulls!

October

Hola a todos,

Feliz Octubre, happy October!  What a beautiful start to fall/October we’ve had.  We’ve gotten to enjoy mild-warm temps and lots of beauty in God’s creation.  We’ve also been celebrating many beautiful things in our classroom, like our families (both our school family and home family) and also the different countries around the world that speak Spanish!  As we wrap up Hispanic Heritage month, 4th and 5th grade students will be presenting on their country so our classes can learn more about what makes each place special. We’ve also continued to celebrate our blessings each Wednesday with a worship song and sharing what we’re grateful for in Spanish.

1st and 2nd graders will continue learning about “familia” and will draw and label our own families.

3rd graders will deepen their knowledge of “familia” by describing their family members with the verb “ser.”

4th/5th graders will wrap up their students of Spanish speaking countries.  Students had a quiz on countries/capitals, and they will present their country project to the class.

End of Sept

Happy Fall!  We have officially completed our first month of school, and I’m proud of how we are building our stamina with new routines and also our Spanish!  For example, I think we’ve got the hang of Worship Wednesday, or Hump Day Hallelujah, where we sing/list to a worship song and share what we are thankful for all in Spanish! We’ve also got our welcome and good bye songs down that help to make our transitions smooth!

1st – 3rd – Students have been learning the alphabet in Spanish and all the sounds the letters make.  We have been practicing numbers and greetings, and even learned some new games!

4th and 5th – Students have been practicing the countries and capitals in Central and South America.  We also talked about nationalities and learned a traditional children’s song called Los Pollitos Dicen.
