Blog post

Part 1

Yes, when I am with all my friends and we are having a great time.  My parents and yes that is how God thinks about all His children.

Part 2

I think God is whispering to me right now that everything is going to be alright and we will get through this. It would be hard to get through all of this without Him.

Reflection

  1. What did you learn or think about the most this week from our theme “Psalms teach us to say, “Forgive me, Lord”. Was there a phrase from a Psalm that stood out? When did you stop this week to ask God for forgiveness? Respond with at least 5 complete sentences.
I like the phrase this week. It really stuck out to me. I had to ask God for forgiveness when I said the wrong thing. Also when I did something wrong thing. I also liked the song that went a long with it.
  2. With forgiveness comes repentance. To “repent” literally means to change directions. After we ask forgiveness, receiving God’s grace can cause us to want to act differently than before–to repent. Tell a story about a time when you acted differently after asking for forgiveness. OR tell about something that you would like to do differently in order to better reflect God’s love. What happened? How did you feel? Use at least 5 complete sentences.
I would like to be better at using kinder words at my brother. We were arguing and both said mean things. I felt bad. I think we both felt bad. We apologized after and then we were good again.
  3. Tell a story about something creative that you did this week. What happened? Who was a part of making it happen? Use at least 5 complete sentences.                                                                                                                       My brother and I rode our bikes to a gas station with some friends. It was fun. It was me, my brother, and some friends. My brother and the other boy both got whipped cream and it lasted like 2 minutes. We went to our house afterwards and then went to a park.

Week 4

  1. Not really, I did not feel God calling to me. It didn’t make me feel any different. Yes, the zoom did make sense. No, I do not have any suggestions. No, I do not have any questions.
  2. I have good ideas. They can be used when trying to figure out a solution to a problem. Also when we can not find an answer. It can be used in and out of class.
  3. It says I don’t wanna miss a word you speak because everything is life to me and that is listening to God. It says You know just what I need and that stuck out to me. It stuck out to me because even if we don’t understand God does.

Hope

In the painting, I think the people going through the sea gives us the most hope. I think that because God did that so His people could get through but not the other people. In my opinion, it has the most hope compared to the others. It gave the people hope. It did not give the people chasing them hope, as they died. It can give anyone hope to know that God can do anything. Knowing that God can do anything can also give hope.

Friday blog post

  1. What did you learn or think about the most this week from our theme “The Psalms teach us to sing praise to God.” Was there a phrase from a Psalm that stood out? What praise do you sing to God right now?                                                     I thought it was cool. I liked the pictures in the book that had to do with this week. Psalm 8 was my favorite passage from this week. I can sing to him songs. I can also sing to him about how good he is.
  2. Tell a story about a time that was difficult this week. What happened? Were there things that comforted you at all?                                                                                           Math was hard yesterday. It took me a while and I was getting a little frustrated at it. Also, all of the homework can be difficult. So it makes the day less fun. Nothing really comforted me with it.
  3.       Tell a story about something this week that you were proud of. What happened? Who was a part of making it happen?                                                             I finished homework. It was hard and I am glad I finished it. I worked through it and got it done. My mom helped me a little bit with math. Some friends helped with the Spanish.

Blog post #4

  1. Read one of the Psalms that we looked at this week. Psalm 34, 46 or 61. Read the whole Psalm Reflect on that Psalm by using any of these questions or by sharing your own thoughts.                                                                                                        Psalm 34 stuck out to me because of how it describes God. I notice how God saves everyone no matter who it is. I see an image of God helping out a homeless person by someone giving the homeless person money. When it says I sought out to God and he answered can give people comfort because God has control over corona. The Brooklyn tabernacle choir made a song out of psalm 34.
  2. . Describe a time or times when you were kind since we shifted to online learning. Describe a time when someone has been kind to you since we shifted to online learning.                                                                                                                                     I have been kind by helping friends with homework. Also helping my mom get groceries. People have been kind to me by helping me with homework. Also, my mom’s friend’s mom makes masks for hospitals and other first responders and just other people in general and she made some for our family. Also, the teachers have been kind by helping me when I did not get the work.
  3.  Describe the activities that you are doing to help pass the time once your homework is finished. Possible examples-bike riding, painting, board games, puzzles, texting friends…                                                                                                      My brother and I have gone bike riding a lot. I have been watching Friends the tv show. I have also been texting and face timing people a lot. I also help my mom get groceries. When its warm out me and my brother like to play basketball.

Week #3

1. How have you experienced God lately? How are you praying to see God’s presence in the world?
I have experienced God in my friends because they have helped me when I did not get the work. I have also seen God in people donating money to help find a cure for the coronavirus. Also, people donating money to help give hospital equipment for there employees. I am praying that God will show His presence by healing people with the coronavirus. I am also praying that God will give peace to the world.

2. Describe a time when you were playing outside since the “Stay at Home” went into effect. What did you do? What was the weather like? How did the outside time make you feel?
I was playing basketball outside. I was playing against my brother and I won. The weather was super warm. The sun was also out. The time outside felt good. It was nice to get some fresh air.

3. Describe one highlight and one “low-light” since your last blog post.
One low-light since my last blog post is the rain because then I cannot go outside.

Reflection of week 1

  1. This week was very different but in my opinion, it was good. My week was good, I had more time to do what I wanted to do than schoolwork. This week I did my homework in the morning or when I got up so I had the rest of the day to do what I wanted to do. I think my week is better because we don’t have to finish the work at a certain time. It took me around an hour or so to do the work depending on what we had to do that day.
  2. Some highlights were the fact that if there was a video that a teacher sent I could pause it. Also if I needed help I could email a teacher or text a friend. Also, I could do the work when I wanted and I could get a snack in the middle of the work. Some challenges were if I didn’t get the paper I had to email and it can get hard to understand something over email. Also, it can be harder to understand stuff through a video.
  3. It was all around easier than school. Some parts were harder like math was easier but Spanish was harder. I liked the fact that we could do it whenever we wanted not a specific time. I think it’s better to do online school than to go back to school in the summer if that’s how we would’ve had to do the stuff we missed. It was a good week all around because instead of 6 or 7 hours a day it was 1 or 2.

Themes Of The Old Testament

Topic 1- a salute to a king

Everyone did as they saw fit. They looked at others and wanted to be like them. Samuel was not wanted because he was old and his sons did not respect him. The people told him they wanted a king, he was displeased but he prayed to the Lord. Samuel tried to change their minds by telling them what would happen to them like they would take their sons and make them serve as chariots and take their daughters to become perfumers and cooks but they wanted to be like everyone else. My visual is of a king because the people wanted a king and they wanted to be like everyone else. I learned that you don’t have to be like everyone else and that you can be different from other people/nations.

Topic 2- a symbol of a lamp

The symbol of the lamp represents God’s promises that are through David will never go. He was a man after God’s own heart even though he made mistakes. One of his mistakes was he once sent a guy into battle at the front of the line where people usually are killed just so he could have his wife. His line will eventually lead to Jesus who is the light of the world. My visual is a picture of light because Jesus is the light of the world. I learned that God never breaks his promises. Also that even if you make mistakes, God can still use you to do something good.

Topic 3- Sinai law

The Sinai law is the 10 commandments and God said I will be your God but that means you are my people. He said these commandments are to protect us and keep us safe. The law covers every part of our lives. My visual is rules because the rules are not there for fun, they are there to follow. I learned that the laws keep us safe there not just there for fun. I also learned that everyone should follow the law no matter what.

Topic 4- slavery/salvation

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers yet when the famine hit is home town he helps his family survive the famine. Moses was born into slavery yet lead the people out of Egypt. God helped them as he helps us. He is faithful and unchanging like he was with them. God is unchanging now like he was in the bible. My visual is the Bible because it might be written differently but the meaning is the same. I learned that God has not changed and won’t and He is always faithful.

Topic 5- a covenant

A covenant is like a deal or a promise between 2 people or 2 groups. A cultural mandate is I give you the earth so you have to take care of it. So when you obey you get a blessing and if you disobey you get a consequence. Conditional if you do this then I will do this, unconditional God keeps his promise no matter what. my visual is a pinky promise because it’s a promise and a covenant is like a promise. I learned that a conditional promise is the best kind because it’s what God gave to all his people.

Topic 6- names

God gave people names and changed people’s names based on the meaning of the name. Names showed character or what the person’s heart was like. The Israelites used God’s name wisely. My visual is kids with a paper with their name on it. Their parents gave them that name like God gave Isaac his name and changed Abram to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah I learned that everyone’s name means something. Also not take the Lord’s name in vain because that is disrespectful.

Topic 7- conflict and doubt

Israel means to struggle with God. The story of Jacob showed us that Jacob actually wrestled with God. God knows we will go through times of conflict and doubt. These times don’t make us bad Christians, He will surround you with the right people so you can get through it. God remains faithful even when we don’t.  my visual is of a car crash because Will got in a car crash and I know that I and others had doubts when it happened but we need to trust God to get Will through it. It’s ok to have doubt but it’s better to have faith in God and to know that everyone has gone through conflict or doubt.

Topic 8- a savior

The people could not keep the Sinai law so God made a new covenant. Instead of written on something physical it was written in their hearts. There would be no need to make a sacrifice because Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice. Jeremiah gave the new covenant. It was based on God’s grace and forgiveness. Isaiah gave many pictures of the new savior. My visual is communion because the bread is Jesus’ body and the grape juice/wine is his blood, when he went on the cross he sacrificed himself for us. I learned that Jesus is the best sacrifice and savior because he is selfless and gave himself up for us.
