The Pearl

What stands out to you from the book or one of our conversations? What impacted you the most?

That Kino was so blind to see that the pearl was evil and it was destroying them, and then finally at the end of the book he realizes that what he has done was beyound evil and the pearl made him that way. The most impacted thing on me was how blind you could be to see that something is completely destroying yourself.

What do you learn from this book or one of our conversations? Why does it matter?

I learned that I should not get so obsessed with one thing that is worth a lot because it can destroy you it matters because with one little thing that means the world to you, can destroy it beyond your dreams.

How does what you learned cause you to live, think, or approach the people around you differently?

It causes me to think carefully, do these people love me? Do they except me for who I am? And I have to approach them nicely so they would do it back hopefully.

8th Grade Shadow Day

I shadowed at Holland Cakery. What I saw was a lot of baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes. I did that day was fold boxes, decorate my own cupcake, and dip cake pops in white chocolate and rolled them in colored sugar. I learned that it takes a lot of math skills because of measuring all the ingredients and because it has to precise other ways it is off. It also takes communication skills because you have to know exactly what the customer wants.

If I could have anything in the world I would have all the gold, I know it is realistic but it would be for a good cause. If I had that I would end world hunger with the money I would have. I would also give 10% of it to the church because that is what God would want. I would spread all the 10 % around. I would also pay off collage for my sisters and give a lot of it to missions and missionaries. Also I would want to open up a dance studio because it combines 2 of my favorite things dance and business because that is what I want to do when I am older. I would also help ZCS and pay off all debt, if we have it, and give to our sister schools, in the Philippines and in Costa Rica, and pay for the new addition for the middle school, and give all the teachers a bonus because they all deserve it. Also if that would happen a lot of people would be asking for some of it or a lot of it. I would simply find out if they needed that money or not and if they do I would give it to them. I would have to manage it carefully because I wouldn’t want to go crazy with it because then I would be too self indulged and buy a lot of things for me. Well just for a thing for me I would buy myself a house and maybe a couple of other things like a trip to somewhere. I, also, would give to the persecuted Christians and give them bibles and such. I would give to orphanages around the world also. To help my church out, I would get them out of debt and pay for remodeling because some things are old looking and they need to be updated.

Senate Session Reaction

I enjoyed a lot about this. I loved how we got to experience how other jobs work and how there is so much work to put into building a country. I also liked how people actually listened to me most of the time. It surprised me that people didn’t check to make sure they were doing it right because then when they didn’t do it then if they had a budget it messed up my whole job. That also frustrated me because they wouldn’t listen to me.

I learned that I need to control my frustration and not turn it into anger against that certain person who frustrated me. I also learned that my class makes it difficult to pass a bill when it is a good bill. And they make dumb arguments. I learned that our government needs everything to work smoothly to stay a country and we should appreciate more of every single job.

This shaped me by knowing that I would like to be a leader of some sort in the future. This also shapes me by thinking that I don’t need to get angry when I am frustrated.

My favorite part was figuring out how every thing is going to fit into the budget, that was until someone made the budget sink.

“Game Changer”

As the war rages on in Syria and Israel, there has been an investigation ordered by Obama to see if Syria is using chemical weapons. He said if there were it would be a “game changer” for the role of Americans in the Civil War there. On Tuesday when Obama arrived Israeli official said they were using chemical weapons, but Obama did an investigation just in case. Obama’s effort was to try to warn Syria that if they use chemical weapons on us then there will be consequences. But American officials found that there was no independent evidence that they were using chemical weapons. But the President of Syria, President Bashar al-Assad said that he was unwilling to involve American forces for the help in the war, but he didn’t want anything to change.

My response is that I don’t think that Israel or Syria should start use chemical weapons. I think that could lead to bigger problems that what would meant to be. I also thought it was necessary to do the investigation because it is nice to know if the other side did have chemical weapons or not because then you would be prepared for what is to come.

Comparing Governments

Something that surprised me with Belize was that Queen Elizabeth II is ruling over them. I thought she only ruled over England.

I think differently now because I know that everyone is different and a lot of countries are struggling just to hold on and pay debts to other countries and they have so many poor people living on the streets in poverty.

They were all similar (France, Belize, Brasil, and US) because they all have a Cabinet, Chief of State, and Head of Government. Also all of them had different Chief of State and Head of Government besides Brasil.

The differences are that all of the Political Party numbers were all over the place: US=4, Belize=7, Brasil=21, and France=18.

If I had to structure my own government, I would have it just like the US when George W. Bush was President.
