Picture Book Advice

Edward ~

1. Respect the child through your writing

2. Dance around the words. For example the rain can fall, or it can splish splash splosh

3. Without over describing the character give enough information so that the character could be understood without pictures.

Fox ~

1.  Be original – Don’t copy other writers ideas while trying to write like them.

2. Keep the text under 500 words and make it 32 pages.

3. Use easy words, use the context to express a feeling or action that could have been put into one harder word. For example say  things like she said instead of she gasped.

Montes ~

1. Think in pictures. Only 16 pictures in a book

2. Avoid stories with a message or a moral, make the story fun and always have a happy ending.

3. All rules have been and can be broken

4. Be Yourself. Read how others have written children’s books and then form the story and book to be your own.
