Science Volcano Project

Photo on 4-20-15 at 1.44 PM #3

In science class we had to make a model of a volcano. This volcano, is supposed to look like Mauna Loa in Hawaii. We named our volcano JJ. We learned a lot about how volcanoes work. All the flags, are labels of everything.

Facts:  Did you know that lava underground is called lava? Did you know that there are many different types of volcanoes? Did you know that volcanoes don’t just blow up from the top? There are side vents where  lava flows out of too.

All of these things, I learned, and many more.

The Stoning of Stephen

A few years after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Greek Christians complained that their widows were being ignored in the daily distribution of food. Seven deacons were appointed by the group to oversee sharing of food and other everyday matters. Stephen, was one of them. Stephen performed miracles to the people of Jerusalem.Jews argued with him, but they could not win against his spirit-filled wisdom. they convinced false witnesses to lie, accusing Stephen of blasphemy against Moses and God. The people dragged Stephen out of the city and began to stone him. As he was dying, Stephen prayed to God to receive his spirit.

Holy Spirit

Who Is The Holy Spirit?

Faith. This is a strong word. The definition of this word is having complete trust over something without any proof. I believe in God with complete trust even though there is no evidence except the Bible, which could be fake.

Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Lets take a step back. Trinity means three. There are three people to keep everything running. Father, (which is God) Son, (Which is Jesus) and The Holy Spirit which is a person equal to God and Jesus. The whole Trinity is a part of God. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God. Verses prove that The Holy Spirit is equal. Acts 5:3-4- If you lie to the Holy Spirit, you like to God. John 14:26 This verse is saying that the Holy Spirit is our helper. 1 Corinthians 2:10 is saying that The Holy Spirit thinks and knows everything. 1 Corinthians 2:11 says that we see the characteristic of omniscience (meaning knowing everything) Acts 1:8 Says you will receive power from the Holy Spirit upon you. Romans 15:13 says he will fill you with all joy and peace. Acts 5:32 Says we are witnesses to the things of God. Acts 5:32 says that we are witnesses to the things of God Acts 2:2 Shows that the Holy Spirit was in their presence. Acts 2:38- says that The Holy Spirit is within you. And finally Luke 4:1 says that Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit. All these verses are proof that he exists and there are many more.

How does he apply to my life? I am a Christian. Like I said above, I have faith. I believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He applies into my life when every I am in need. The verse above (John 14:26) talks about The Holy Spirit being our helper.

Bowling Reflection

Yesterday we got the privilege to go bowling in the afternoon. We had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the goofy bowling game. We did all kinds of goofy bowling ideas. We did granny style where we throw the ball under our legs and launch the ball. We also hiked it where we turned around and did the opposite and hiked the ball. We bowled while hopping on one foot, we bowled with our eyes closed, we bowled all kinds of different ways. It was really funny how most of the time we got it in the gutter but sometimes we would knock a few pins down and rarely get a spare or strike. I liked bowling with my friends at Hudsonville Lanes and I hope to do it again.

Jesus’ Crucifixion

In Bible class I learned about the last few words of Jesus before he died on the cross. Jesus said seven phrases before he died. He said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” Meaning that he people who were hurting him and trying to kill him should still go to heaven. Another thing he said was, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Jesus is saying to the people that no matter what they are doing, they will be forgiven and into heaven. Another phrase Jesus said was, “Dear woman, here is you son.” This phrase is saying that Jesus’ mother (Mary) is watching him die and will no longer have a son. This makes Jesus sad because his dear mother is watching her own son suffer. He also says, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus is saying that God has abandoned him. Jesus also said, “I am thirsty.” after he drank he said, “It is finished.” and he died after saying that.

Thematic Essay

Thematic Essay

WARNING SPOILERS *

I read a book called The Giver By. Lois Lowry. The Giver is about a boy who’s life is normal, Too normal. Everything he sees is black and white. The community took everything away so there wouldn’t be any fights or drama. Moms and Dads are put together by the community and they are not aloud to have any kids that is only for the birthmothers, Which is a job where they give birth to 3 kids and the do nothing for the rest of their lives. The people feel no pain at all. When you turn twelve you get assigned a job. Jonas just turned twelve so he gets a job . Jonas gets picked to do a pretty interesting job. Jonas is The Receiver. Thats where he receives all the memories like pain, fun and color by a man called The Giver. The Giver lays his hands on Jonas’ back and transfers the memory to Jonas through his hands. The community wants everything to be perfect, but thats not how it works.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Jonas goes to The Givers office and see’s him rocking back and forth in a corner. It shows that your community can’t be perfect because one person has to suffer all kinds of pain and Jonas didn’t want to be the person to suffer that kind of pain. He decided to go leave the community so then everyone would get the pain and see color and all of that stuff.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Jonas notices that there are only four people with grey eyes. Everyone else in the community has blue ish green eyes. The Giver, Jonas, another younger girl, and Gabe all have grey eyes. This means that they can receive memories.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Gabe (a baby that they are taking care of) is a slow processor and can never sleep at night. Jonas secretly transfers happy memories to Gabe to help him sleep at night. The community is think about killing him because he isn’t normal. Jonas decides to take him out of the community with him so he can survive and go to a place called elsewhere. But they both don’t make it and the freeze to death.

The community wants everything to be perfect. I think its a very good life lesson because its saying don’t try to be perfect. Everyone will make mistakes and mess up because nothing is perfect no matter how hard you try. Everyone tried to be so organized in this book but eventually it came crashing down. There are three other books in the series but isn’t really a series because they are totally different people. I think that the books might talk about how brave and courageous Jonas was but I don’t understand why he left. Wouldn’t his parents and sister miss him. Wouldn’t the Giver miss him? Anyway a community can never be perfect so our community or any community should stop trying.

Math

In math class I learned about inequalities.  I learned how to solve them. For example:

Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 9.27.39 AM

First you get rid of the 7

You have to do it to both sides

This is a very easy equation. As the lesson goes on we go through more difficult equations

The Outsiders

The Outsiders By. S.E Hinton

WARNING SPOILERS *

I liked the book a lot. The book tells us that your don’t judge a book by its cover. So you can’t judge a person by their looks. I didn’t like that Dally dies. It was ok that Johnny died because he saved people but Dally pretty much committed suicide.

I liked the church burning scene how it was exactly like I imagined it in my head when I read the book. It had all the little kids huddled in a corner, Pony and Johnny smiling as they were helping he kids, and it even has the kid bitting Ponyboy. I enjoyed watching the scene because it was like the pictures in my mind came to life.

The book and movie are a bit different. Around the end when Dally gets shot and robs a store, it doesn’t really explain very well that he actually wanted to die. It looked like he didn’t try to die but was going to hide with the Curtis family. This is a very small thing but my friends were asking me if the cashier shot him because blood was shown after he got off the phone and i’m not quite sure if he did. I disliked that the took out the whole entire ending. They took out the part with Soda crying about being the middleman and the court scene.

All in all I think the movie was pretty good but I didn’t like how they took out the part with Soda crying about being the middleman and the court scene and Pony getting jumped because they are some major parts of the book. I was kind of confused about Two-Bit. I had no idea he liked Mickey Mouse and it wasn’t in the book so I didn’t get why they added that. Also I don’t understand why they didn’t explain Johnny and Ponyboy’s parents very well. The only way they showed Johnny’s parents is when they were fighting and his mom wanted to see Johnny in the hospital that didn’t show that they hated Johnny like in the book.

I enjoyed the movie but I liked the book way better. I think that their acting should be better but then again it was their first movie for all of them. I’m really glad that we got to read the book and watch the movie
