Bowling Reflection

Yesterday we got the privilege to go bowling in the afternoon. We had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the goofy bowling game. We did all kinds of goofy bowling ideas. We did granny style where we throw the ball under our legs and launch the ball. We also hiked it where we turned around and did the opposite and hiked the ball. We bowled while hopping on one foot, we bowled with our eyes closed, we bowled all kinds of different ways. It was really funny how most of the time we got it in the gutter but sometimes we would knock a few pins down and rarely get a spare or strike. I liked bowling with my friends at Hudsonville Lanes and I hope to do it again.

Thematic Essay

WARNING SPOILERS *

I read a book called The Giver By. Lois Lowry. The Giver is about a boy who’s life is normal, Too normal. Everything he sees is black and white. The community took everything away so there wouldn’t be any fights or drama. Moms and Dads are put together by the community and they are not aloud to have any kids that is only for the birthmothers, Which is a job where they give birth to 3 kids and the do nothing for the rest of their lives. The people feel no pain at all. When you turn twelve you get assigned a job. Jonas just turned twelve so he gets a job . Jonas gets picked to do a pretty interesting job. Jonas is The Receiver. Thats where he receives all the memories like pain, fun and color by a man called The Giver. The Giver lays his hands on Jonas’ back and transfers the memory to Jonas through his hands. The community wants everything to be perfect, but thats not how it works.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Jonas goes to The Givers office and see’s him rocking back and forth in a corner. It shows that your community can’t be perfect because one person has to suffer all kinds of pain and Jonas didn’t want to be the person to suffer that kind of pain. He decided to go leave the community so then everyone would get the pain and see color and all of that stuff.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Jonas notices that there are only four people with grey eyes. Everyone else in the community has blue ish green eyes. The Giver, Jonas, another younger girl, and Gabe all have grey eyes. This means that they can receive memories.

I can see the theme in this scene where it shows how the community isn’t perfect. When Gabe (a baby that they are taking care of) is a slow processor and can never sleep at night. Jonas secretly transfers happy memories to Gabe to help him sleep at night. The community is think about killing him because he isn’t normal. Jonas decides to take him out of the community with him so he can survive and go to a place called elsewhere. But they both don’t make it and the freeze to death.

The community wants everything to be perfect. I think its a very good life lesson because its saying don’t try to be perfect. Everyone will make mistakes and mess up because nothing is perfect no matter how hard you try. Everyone tried to be so organized in this book but eventually it came crashing down. There are three other books in the series but isn’t really a series because they are totally different people. I think that the books might talk about how brave and courageous Jonas was but I don’t understand why he left. Wouldn’t his parents and sister miss him. Wouldn’t the Giver miss him? Anyway a community can never be perfect so our community or any community should stop trying.
