March 11-15

¡Queridos Padres!

I hope you all had a great weekend! Here is the information for the field trip on Tuesday. Please send your child with their own booster, snack, and lunch. It will be a morning field trip but long, therefore, we won’t be back on time for school lunch (hot lunch).

Grace & Peace;

Maestra Ruiz

March 22
End of Marking Period – K-8

March 27
All School Chapel – 9:00 a.m.

For you newsletters (preK-5th and 6-8 if possible!)
Can you tell me more about immersion in middle school? As our students reach middle school, we continue to intensely focus on language development. Currently, our Mandarin students study in Chinese for four hours of the day. In Spanish, our students spend three class periods in Spanish. While students leaving 5th grade have a great level of fluency, they are still at a 5th-grade developmental level. Just as students have not reached adult sophistication in their native language by 5th grade, our immersion students still have significant room for growth. Throughout middle school, we continue to introduce and solidify more difficult language forms. While we know that intrinsic motivation might fall during these years, this is a time of immense vocabulary and language development. It is imperative that students continue to hear and produce their immersion language through these years so that their language development keeps pace with their cognitive development and so that their academic use of language grows sufficiently to meet the demands of grade level curriculum/content. If you have more questions about secondary immersion (6th-12th), please connect with Jodi Pierce jpierce@zcs.org.
Book it!
This is the last month!!!
