Information and Reminders:

Wonderfully Made: Owen Wickstra April 17-21
Please finish and send your child’s timeline the week before your child’s special week. During your child’s special week, it is a wonderful opportunity to have lunch with your child, bring in pets, or share special talents your family members may have been blessed with. Just inform me ahead of time what is your plan.

Second Grade Field Trip: Meijer Garden Friday, May 19 We will leave right in the morning and come back early afternoon. Thank you to Kristi Van Dyk and and the Doumas for driving the field trip! Please bring all the boosters you have. Thanks!

First Grade Field Trip: Friday, June 2 John Ball Zoo All the first graders need to pay $4.00 for the field trip since we did not collect it at the beginning of the school year. Please turn in the money to me by May 1. Thank you to Lynette Heinz, Cara Larsen, Shanda Sprick, Erin Harris and Abby Allen for driving the field trip! If any parent would like to join the field trip, please let me know before May 1 to receive a discount. All parents who sign up after May 1 will have to pay $10 at the door.

Curriculum
Language Arts
-Reading Strategy:
We will continue reading the second The Box-car Children—-Surprise Island by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

-Writers’ Workshop: We will start a new unit about poem. This week, we will spend time reading some poems both created by poets and previous students. We will learn the characteristics of poem.

Math
-First Grade: We will tell and write time in half-hours.

-Second Grade: We will learn 3 digits subtraction this week, learn to subtract from numbers with zeros, and practice subtraction from any number.

Social Studies
This week we are going to learn about our country have a past. We will learn about important holidays that remember historic events.

Science
-First Grade: We will observe monarch larva. (We will have monarch larva come to our classroom later this week.)

-Second Grade:We will create objects that move in the air and look at how air affects movement.

Bible
We will talk about Jesus is alive; Jesus appears to many people and Jesus’s Ascension
