Density Lab

In science class we were learning about density and how to find the density of an object. To find the density of an object you divide the mass of the object by the volume of the object. We found the density of many objects such as pennies, pencils, a bolt, and tons more. To find the mass of the object (which is one of the measurements you need to find the density of something) you use a balance which kind of looks like this,

images  only ours wasn’t this fancy. You place the object in one side and keep adding weight to the other side until both sides are even. To find the volume of an object we used a graduated cylinder. which looks like this.

final_pi_485To find the volume you put water into the graduated cylinder up to a certain amount so that you can fully submerge the object in the water. Next you put the object in the water and the water will rise. You check how much the water has risen and subtract that number from the amount of water that was in the cylinder. To find the density of an object you divide the mass of the object by the volume of the object.
