Sixth Grade Egypt Project

November29

As a whole sixth grade we where challenged to put on an Egypt museum about modern and ancient Egypt. We where separated into groups of about 4 or 5 people to create an Exhibit to put in the museum. Our exhibit had to be based on the 6 characteristics of civilization and to include ancient and modern Egypt.Part of the challenge was to work in groups witch sounded easy until we started working. But over all the idea of groups was not too bad and it was a good thing to learn about working with other people and I found that I like to work in groups to get work done.

As we kept working and doing research we realized that there was a lot more to ancient Egypt than just mummies and pyramids. There was a lot to learn about ancient Egypt such as the book of the dead and the mummification and all the religious beliefs that there where over 1,000 gods that they worshiped but it was harder to find stuff on modern. Then came the day that we got to pick 2 of the characteristics of civilization to include in our exhibit. Our group chose Art and Religion. We dug deeper into the book of the dead and graffiti, I learned that graffiti is a way that modern people in Egypt express their feelings and opinions.

In the end my group had a wonderful exhibit, lots of people came to look at it. I think it was important to learn about ancient and modern Egypt because we got to experience a whole new religion and way of life. I learned a lot and hope to become more interested in other religions and ways of life. Also I think it was important to learn about graffiti because it showed me that the people that don`t get a fair say in things like government they do graffiti so they can be heard their art. I also learned that it is not always easy to work in groups but we got along and worked really hard and got to have a fun exhibit to work on and to present.
