Science- Volcano building

Volcanos take millions of years of hardening lava/plastic. We were told to make a volcano, and we are 3d printing ours. At the time of this post, it is not finished yet. We plan on having it erupt with diet coke and a mento. We were the only group to 3d print it. We had a plan/design executed it using 123d design, and it is currently printing. We won’t have it erupt yet, but it’s getting there.

God’s Preparation

Ok. So this is one that I don’t know what to write or how to write it. So I’m just gonna trust God and write whatever he puts in my head, and who knows, he might give me an idea on what to write. Here goes nothing.

I think a big way that God is preparing me to  serve him here on earth is through all the extra things I do along with school. I also do Spanish Immersion, Calling all Colors, I’m in advanced math, I’m a small group leader, I do sports, I’m in a bible study as well as a youth group. I also feel like having adopted siblings and having people live with us has also really opened my mind to what and who I consider family. I believe that God is not done preparing me for his ministry here.

SPAGGHETTI TOWER

Screen Shot 2016-02-22 at 1.00.01 PM

For Science class we built a spaghetti tower. What went well was that our tower didn’t fall, break or die. What went badly was that it clearly survived on a prayer, the top was out of shape, and most other things. My favorite part was testing them, and everyone watching the other groups attempt the earhthquake survival. My least favorite part was the stress filled moments building the tower and realizing we might not make it.

Why is it important that we learn about Christian Persecution?

I think it’s important to learn about the persecution of Christians, because we need to know how important the God we worship is. How far we should be willing to go. How other Christians are living, how they worship. We need to know how easy it is for us to follow him, to know that we need to stay true to him, even if it means death, even if it means being unpopular, or not cool. We need to start setting our sights on heaven, not on this world. We should at least do God’s work in the best of conditions if they do his work in the worst of conditions.

Ideal church vs. Early church

Recently in class we made up the attributes of our ideal church and studied the early church in the bible. After that we compared them, and there were a bunch of differences that were kind of eye-opening. It was odd how our ideal church was about comfort while the early church was about fellowship and closeness.

God Sightings

This weekend I went to the South Olive Bible Study. We talked about “Abram’s Shield”, when God said something along the lines of “Don’t be scared because I am with you and I am your shield” or something like that. It meant that bad things are coming, but don’t be afraid because God’s with you and you are his creation.

Theme Writing

My theme that I am writing about is overcoming fear and being brave. The book I am writing about is the Ranger’s Apprentice book one, The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan. The plot of the books are that the dark lord Morgarath is planning to take over Araluen. His first step is to use his kalkara assassins, they’re massive, terrifying beasts that can paralyze someone by making eye contact with them, to kill those that stopped him on his first attempt. The Kalkara’s fur is so thick that it can stop broadswords Their only weakness is that the stuff that sticks the fur together, in an armor better than chain mail, is highly flammable. Will uses this to his advantage to kill one of them, overcoming a massive amount of fear. The lesson I learned from these books is that anyone can be brave, but you can’t have bravery without fear.

Halt shows a lot of courage in his “battle” against the Kalkara. When they face the Kalkara towards the end of book one, Halt is the main target of the Kalkara and also the one that tracks them down with his two former apprentices Gilan and Will. At one point he is hiding from them with a broken bow and a only the smaller of his two knives, but he never gives up, he keeps on trying to stay alive, his will to live never fading. He keeps on attempting to ward them off with fire and even though he know that he stands no chance against them. He’s really scared of them because they’re bent on killing him. But that doesn’t stop him, he keeps on fighting.

Another time when courage was displayed was when Will shot the flaming arrow that took out the last Kalkara. What happens is that the Kalkara has badly wounded Baron Arald and he Paralyzed Sir Rodney and is about to kill Halt. Thinking quickly, he covers an arrowhead with pine sap and lights it on fire. He then shoots it at the Kalkara and the monster dies in flames and everyone is saved, for the moment. His fear was that the assassin was about to kill his mentor, father figure, and arguably his best friend at this point. He had to overcome that fear and not just stand by and take it down despite his doubts and fears.

My final example of courage in the book is when they took down the wild boar. The gist of what happened was Halt was teaching Will about tracking and identifying hoofprints and footprints. They found an odd set of hoofprints that Halt identified as a wild boar that could be really bad news for the surrounding countryside. They were getting ready to kill it and it went in a rage and nearly killed them all but Will showed great courage and killed it.

In conclusion, this is a very good book.

New Addition

I really like the new edition. I like it because of the A/C, and because it’s a little darker. I also like the new high chairs because i pay attention better on those. Most of all, I like the new expensive stuff like the rolling chairs. This new edition is really nice.

Llamada a Acción

Probability

In the last two weeks we studied probability. It was a PBL about carnival games. We had to engineer, create, and test the probability of our carnival games. We started out by learning the basics with YAHTZEE and dice. Then, we discussed options for games with our groups. We then made our projects.

I learned that in probability, it is always multiplying. I also learned that there is a distinct formula for different kinds of probability. I also learned that there are different kinds of probability.

In my opinion, this is a lot more fun and efficient way to learn. I also thought that, in having a different teacher teach it, it spiced it up a little.
