Dia de los Muertos

31 10 2012

We talked about and celebrated Dia de los Muertos today in Spanish class. It’s the day where the people in Mexico honor their dead ancestors. It’s a remembrance day and a celebration of what these people did in their life on earth. They’ll clean the cemeteries and decorate the head stones. There’s also a lot with skulls and skeletons.

I really think it’s a cool idea, the way they remember the dead and celebrate them. We don’t really do that here, it’s almost as if those who are dead are a subject you aren’t supposed to talk about because it’ll make people said. I think it’s good to celebrate these people and remember them for the good that they did instead of dwelling on the fact that they aren’t here on earth anymore. Though, I don’t like the skeleton part of the celebration, I do like the idea.
