Book Review

Katrina Yoder is a normal girl. At least according to the Amish. Until she is accepted into a competition that is not at all what an Amish girl should do.

In this novel Carlson makes this girl’s life come alive.  Her dad needs back surgery really bad they have no medication for him accept pain reliever. Katrina has a beautiful voice and when she goes to singings  with other people from her village that are her age she starts singing for them. Her best friend Bekka thinks that she could win a lot of prize money if she gets accepted to an American show. So Katrina takes a big step outside of her village, all the way to Hollywood. But will it be enough to pay for her dad’s surgery? Read a Simple Song to find out.

My favorite part of this book is how the author makes everything seem realistic. I love how when Katrina goes to Hollywood that when people say things that mean two different things that Katrina usually takes it for the opposite of what it is supposed to be.

I would recommend this book to anyone who like Historical Fiction and like learning a little bit about different cultures.
