Theme Writing

-1 John 4:10-11-

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

I’d always wondered what our theme verse would be when we got to 8th grade and we got to be the ones to choose it. I think this theme will fit very well at ZCS this year and I hope I can act this verse out every day. We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world.

I can show this theme in many ways at school. I know when I was younger I would always look up to the older kids and I would be so happy if they said hi to me in the hall or wanted to be my partner for family group activities. I want to be that older kid now since we are the leaders of the school and hopefully I can make a younger kid’s day a whole lot better. This doesn’t just have to be younger kids either, even if it’s a teacher or somebody around your age in school, you can still show them love. If you just give them a smile or say good morning to show them that they matter to you and are important, it can make their whole day better. One of my goals this year is to make everybody feel like they belong and this verse connects really well with that. We can also show love to the principal, the teachers, the janitors, and also to our school building. If we all picked up after ourselves, imagine how much easier the janitor’s jobs would be and our school would look a whole lot nicer too.

As Christians, we can also show this theme to the world. God calls us to love everybody no matter who they are or what they look like. These days the world is so obsessed with the differences between people, whether it’s what they look like, what they believe, or what their opinions are. I think we should look for the good things in other people and not judge them based on stereotypes. If everybody showed love, there wouldn’t be any reason for violence and disagreements. One way we can show love is honoring the people who have authority over us, even if we might not agree with what they say or do. I know this year there has been a lot of discussion with people not agreeing with our recently elected president but nobody can do anything to change who is serving our country and we should try to make the best of it. Another way we can share the idea of love is serving other people. Some people like to serve through mission trips and that is a great way to show love to people around the world. You don’t have to travel far to serve or do some huge project either, you can serve in your own community or neighborhood. Sometimes simple things go a long way.

We can show our theme, Lost in Love, to others in our school and to people in the world. We should act like Jesus in all circumstances and try to be loving examples of him to other people. Nobody is perfect, but if we try, with God’s help, we can make a difference.
