God’s Preparation

I kind of have two things that God has used to open my eyes. They are similar stories that he has used to change me. The first one is experiences with foster care. We did long term foster car for about 3 years. Our first person was a 15 year old girl named Erica (6 Years ago) we picked her up at the airport in GR and said hello and introduced ourselves and brought her home. She got here with no luggage, she only had the clothes she had on and a box of candy. She didn’t know any english and so it was difficult for some of my family but me and Teagan. We had to make some sacrifices, Teagan had to come sleep in the other bed in my room and we had to feed 6 people instead of five and we had to buy stuff for 6 people and it was hard. We got her sometime towards the end of the school year and so when it got out her birthday was coming up and you know, you get them a cake and presents but this time was different we gave her the cake which said happy 16 birthday Erica and without saying anything, she started to cry and she said that nobody had ever given her anything like that and she was so grateful so it didn’t really hit me until I could understand why she said that. It was also hard for her being away from her family for so long, she would sometimes lock herself in her room and just write or draw because she was sad. We had made relationships with each other  so we took a trip to my uncles house in Utah and there we sort of all clicked together like we all hung out together a played together and stuff like that at it was one of the times where we started to understand that she was a part of our family and we loved her. She went through all of these struggles but now she is 21 or 22 and she lives in Kentucky with her husband and her son Logan. And I think that God used that for not only me but with my sister Kenedy because now she wants to go into social work so that is very cool.

My next story is very similar to this one. My dad works at hope and there was a kid who was a senior in college at hope and he was going to graduate and he was going to try to be a nurse but he didn’t have any money so he needed a place to live, and we talked about it but I really never thought anything about it. Well a couple months later we talked about it again and I started to think like we are just gonna take in this kid and let him live in our house and we talked and decided to let him stay as long as he wanted. Me and my dad took a trip to Trine Indiana to watch Hope softball team and this kids girlfriend was on the team so he was there and it was the first time that I had really met him, I mean I had seen him and shaken his hand but never really formally introduced myself to him and so I sat next to him and we talked and he seemed like a nice guy and I was like cool he is going to be nice. He moved in at the beginning of the summer and it was very different because I had to move downstairs to sleep and Kenedy moved upstairs and again it was weird eating with a sort of stranger but we got to know him and the stuff that he liked and he ended up being really fun and even though he was only with us for about 3 months we consider them family. At the time, he was really struggling to keep up financially because he had just graduated and was in a bunch of debt and he needed to get a job as a nurse and he ended up getting it and he proposed to his girlfriend and now the are getting married and everything is good. I think God used this to tell us to keep open arms to anybody because they can be a great addition to your life.
