~ Is The Price Right!? ~

Hey there everybody, sitting in an old person chair writing this because i’m recovering from coughing my ribcage out last night. on that note, lets talk about math. The last two weeks of math have been all switched up. Instead of my regular sit down, blast punk rock, and crank on math, we did a project on probability. I must admit that at first, i was a bit skeptical, and wasn’t too anxious about switching up my routine math session, but that was all cleared away when i learned that we would be watching ‘The Price Is Right’ for the first three days. I found myself enjoying studying probability! I didn’t feel like we were doing any math! No formulas, no unrealistic mathematical can of worms, no big words (besides ‘probability’), and no worries. I was shown that probability is everywhere, and that there are plenty of ways to use it besides making your head hurt šŸ™‚ . I think that learning about probability this way is LOADS more fun than sitting down for an hour and cranking on math. Did i learn more this way? Of course i did! I didn’t have to deal with dumb life applications that kids my age don’t give a hoot about! I got to have it applied to MY LIFE, did you hear that holt mcdougal? my life. Why couldn’t we do this all year? we have 30-some weeks, and only 10 lessons, and we are the grade that has the most! we could do a lesson project-style every three weeks! That would mean more in depth discovery, more learning, and MORE FUN! WHY NOT?

Hot Diggity Dog!

– hot diggity dog is…

A project where you design a gourmet hot dog restaurant , you examine the space you are given measure it , and draw your plan to scale. You also give it a name , and logo you present it to mr. Jongekrieg who is pretending to want to buy the former At The Diner restaurant space inĀ Zeeland. you work in groups of mostly four or five. This project is about team work , and math . Where teamwork kicks in is in the decisions, and for math the measuring the restaurant , and much more. I overall enjoyed this project having it bring a fun spin on math , and math forms we do not often use in school like drawing to scale, and it was a fun change from our regular math scheduleĀ I liked hot diggity dog , and hope that the 4th graders get a chance to do it too.

– my group did well at…

We made our poster look really good , and our logo was spectacular! We also won in the scale model drawing ( what i submitted. Oh yeah!). We also found this swag picture of a dog with sunglasses:)

– my group could’ve done better at

Having more measurements , and preforming smoothly.
