Reminders:

    • We have PE Monday afternoon. Please dress your child in clothes that are comfortable and make sure he/she has socks and sneakers. (indoor gym shoes are at school)
    • Please send in library books by Tuesday morning
    • Thanks for filling out the parent teacher conference questionnaire.  Here is the link if you haven’t filled it out yet.
    • Birthday treats are optional and in Phase 4 and 5 are non-edible.
    • Please fill out the ASQ found here. (email sent earlier this week)
    • Miss Sherrie (Stuursma) is part of our early childhood team. She often checks in the preschool and kindergarten classrooms during the day and also works with small groups and individual children. We are so thankful for her work. If your child ever mentions working with Miss Sherrie, this is why. 🙂 She is a valuable part of the team. Especially this year when we aren’t able to  have parent volunteers working in our classroom, we appreciate when she is able to be an extra set of hands!

Parent Teacher Conferences:

Here are instructions for signing up for virtual parent teacher conferences this year. Sign up begins October 5. I am looking forward to talking with you about your fabulous children!

There will be a zoom link in the WAAG  the weeks of conferences. I will use the waiting room feature to let you in at your time slot.

What we are Learning!

This week our highlight was definitely reading the story of Noah in our Bibles together. As we were reading God provided a rainbow right outside our window! We learned the rainbow is a sign that God keeps his promises to us. What an AMAZING moment that was in our classroom, to stand with 17 children and witness God’s promise to us right in that moment! God is in everything!

In Math this week we used manipulatives to compare numbers and we were even able to compare our numbers and figure out how much bigger or smaller the numbers were! We also learned the attributes of squares and rectangles and found them around our room.

In phonics this week we finished up our ABC “magazines” and will be moving on to word wall words next week! The students should have brought their ABC packet home with them today! We also continued learning about rhyming words and made a class book with animals and rhymes.

Next week you will notice word wall work papers. We will rainbow write and search for the word as well as begin to read a small book with our word wall word in it. These are great papers to review and read with your child a few times. I even suggest keeping the word wall books in a ziploc baggy and start reading these with your child often. Practice pointing to the words and read with them.

We were able to continue to draw pictures of true stories about us and we began the very initial phases of labeling, as we labeled ourselves in our pictures. This coming week we will begin labeling more!

We were able to explore God’s world this week by using our sense of taste. We tried something sweet, sour and salty and then we made a class graph to see what taste our class prefers. It seems that we are sour lovers!

On Friday we examined the meaning of some positional words such as over, under, above, below, and next to. We then followed Mrs. Arnold’s directions to put our animals in our zoo!

Throughout the week we enjoy singing as it gives us an opportunity to move our bodies. Jack Hartmann has some great alphabet songs that we do for practice and fun! We also worshiped God in song this week with a song that many of us learned in preschool, “Our God is a Great Big God.”

Finally this week we began flexible seating. This gives the students an opportunity to move a bit more while seated or sit in a less traditional manner to help them with learning. Every student gets a chance for every type of seat once a week. We use big exercise balls, lap trays, scoop chairs, stools and soft seats. I just wanted to let you know in case your child had come home talking about this!! They have really enjoyed the seating this week!
