Book by Leah Cooper

My family is a book.

My Mom is the outside of the book. She holds us all together and keeps us in place, where we should be.

My Dad is the author. He loves coming up with fun family adventures and using his mind to figure things out.

Maggie is the illustrator. She loves being creative and giving us a great visual about life.

I am the end of the book. The last chapter. I love putting a great twist on things and giving others their happy ending.

Summer by Leah Cooper

I’m so excited summer is here

So now I can lay out in the sun

With friends from far and near

I can play until the day is done

My pool goes for an infinity

I get to walk on the burning sand

I can swim across the sea

Until I reach dry land

Picture Book Advice

Marissa Montes:

“A picture book must appeal to first the editor, second the buyer, who is usually an adult (the parent or library and or teacher), third the child.”

Mem Fox:

“Do be original: try not to copy the ideas or structures of recent well-known books.”

“Do ensure that the content of the story will interest both children and adults, not just adults- a common fault which might well lead to publication but will never lead to best-selling status.”

“Do ensure the text is written grammatically, and the spelling and punctuation is correct.”

Sue Bradford Edwards:

“Use easy words.”

“Make the text silly funny or interesting. Editors love it.”

“Keep trying to pull the reader back with sounds.”

“Low word count so it flows from beginning to end.”

“Only create characters that play main parts in the story.”

“The illustrator knows what to draw just by looking at the words.”

Youth Group by Leah Cooper

With many friends

In the church

Among lots of laughter

During bible study, we eat

Around the circle we go

On the blue leather couches

Through the Bible, we learn more about God.
