“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine is like the wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had it’s foundation on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25

Theme Writing

In the spring last year, the whole seventh grade went to Camp Roger to pick out a theme for the upcoming year. While we were at Camp Roger to pick out the theme, we did a number of activities to help our leadership for the upcoming year. One of the activities we did was a zip-line across 100 yards or so of land. At the beginning you had to climb up a 20 foot pole to get to the platform of the jumping spot. The trust part of that is that there is three kids holding and rope and giving you slack while you climb so if you fall, they would be the ones to catch you. Also about picking the theme we chose to pick a theme to the extent of 100 years of ZCS. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

This year is my last year at Zeeland Christian. So that means that us eighth graders are the leaders of the school. This years theme means to me as a eighth grader is by all of the school has to have a faith built on the rock because this year everybody will have “storms” coming their way, whether it’s friends, or if it’s a new school for you, or even just school work in general. But if we have our faith built on the rock then we will be able to get through the tough times.

Now that this is my last year at Zeeland Christian means that next year I will be going to high school. So now I will have to take everything I’ve learned here and take it to an even bigger world out there. Now that high school sports have cuts, I will have to work really hard. But if I get cut, I will have to have my faith on the rock because sports are a big part of my life. And when I go to college I don’t know where I’m going (obviously) but I do know that if I go somewhere where I don’t really have friends that I know it will be tough. But if I have a firm foundation on the rock then God will help get through it.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world by being leaders in the school and representing what to do and what not to do, also by spreading God’s word wherever we might end up. Now that we are eighth graders we need to take responsibility, we can’t do that on our own so we need to have our faith built on the rock so when things don’t go they way you expected it to, we will not stumble or fall because our faith is built on the rock. We

can all spread God’s word wherever we end up by just starting a little Bible study, or even just have lunch with someone and praying for them.

Descriptive Writing

The anchor reminds me of summer days on our boat.

This year we got a cottage on Lake Macatawa. We have a mastercraft. We like to wake surf behind it and wakeboard. When we are surfing in Lake Mac the water is a gross brownish, greenish. But when we go into Lake Michigan the water is crystal clear. It is cool when storms roll in across the lake. The clouds were dark black and the lightning light up the sky.

The suitcase reminds me of when my family and I went to Pennsylvania.

This summer we went to Pennsylvania to visit my great-grandma’s 90th birthday. While we were there we stayed one night in Philadelphia. The city is crazy packed with people. While we were there the Detroit Tigers played the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore is about two hours away. When we got to Baltimore the city was beautiful. And the stadium was one of the nicest i’ve ever been to. When the Orioles scored fireworks boomed and banged.

The heart reminds me of the Little League World Series.

Last year my grandpa and grandma took me and some of my cousins to the Little League World Series. It was amazing there. The fans were crazy, (especially Sadie for this guy named Dallon Cave, She thought he was hot) . While we were there we saw a lot of home runs by kids my age. It was a dream of mine to go there and play, but going there to watch was still amazing. During the game we saw an Illinois team play a Nevada team. The Illinois team won but after a few months they found out that they had cheated. After the Little League World Series we went to Louisville, Kentucky. While we were there we got to go in the Kentucky Derby track.

Also we went to where they made the Louisville slugger bats. It was amazing how they made the bats. They hand carved the bats and machine carved the bats. When they hand carved the bats they had this special tool the carved the shape of the bat, while another machine spun the bat really fast.

New Addition

This year is the first year we get to be in the new addition. We will be the first class to graduate from it. It is nice because we air conditioning and it is like 90 degrees outside. So this year will be nice with the new stuff and the new addition. It will be a fun year in the new addition.
