God Sightings

This weekend I saw God through the nature around us and how beautiful it is. My Mom and Me stopped at my Grandparents farm and took a walk around the lane. While we walked I saw how pretty the leaves were and the cows and just everything around us. It was beautiful.

My book is a book full of adventure, war and a little bit of romance. Rilla of Ingleside is a book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This book talks about a girl who is in her teen years and at her first dance everybody finds out that their country, Canada, is going to join the war. Throughout these years she has to grow up quickly and learn to mature very fast. All three of her brothers go off to the army and the boy that she likes also goes. Her closest brother dies while he is away and at the end of the book she the war is just finishing and she doesn’t know that Kenneth, the boy that she likes, is coming home and he surprises her at her front door. Throughout this book you will also find out that although there are hard times you will make it through those tough times.

I saw how Rilla, the main character, would get through the war when her brother, Walter, sent her a letter right before he died. The letter that he sent her talked about how before he had been scared to enlist in the army and how now that he is in the army he is not afraid. He knows that he will be shot down tomorrow and is not at all afraid. In the letter he also talks about how Rilla and a good family friend, Una, had been so sweet to him and encouraged him during these war days. In that letter he told Rilla to keep on being sweet and laughing all the time and keep being herself, he does not want her to be sad for the rest of her life so he tells her that she should keep on being who she is and not be sad because of him. I saw how Rilla got through the tough time when her brother died in the war because the letter really helped her to keep on being herself and move on in life. The letter helped her move on in her life, and she got through that tough time.

I also saw that Rilla got through the time when she took care of the “war baby” and learned how to love him. So, Rilla is a person that does not like babies, she doesn’t even like to touch them or hug them or have anything to do with them. So during the war her mom asks her to go to someones house and give them something.  When she goes over there she finds out that the mom is dead and there is only one more person at the house that can take care of him but she doesn’t want to take care of him or doesn’t know how to. So she sees the baby and does not want to take him, but she does because she really does not want to leave the baby there because the person at the house would not take care of them very well.  Then she has to decide if she is going to keep the baby and she still does not love him but has to learn to at least like him because she is the one responsible for him.  I saw how Rilla got through the hard time of taking care of the baby because she eventually learns to love him. She learns to like him when she grows use to him and sees how he likes her and she likes him. In the end the dad of the baby comes back from the war and takes the kid with him since he can take care of the baby now.

Another way that I saw Rilla get through a hard time was when almost some of her family friends and her brothers left for war. It was very hard to see them go because at first her oldest brother went to go to war and his father was very sad but he let him, and her other brother could not stand war and fighting and blood and killing but he was very scared to go to war but he finally enlisted so he wouldn’t be scared anymore. Then her youngest brother who was not old enough to go to the war finally was old enough and he enlisted and went. Her family friends went to and also the guy that she likes, who was also a family friend, was not healthy enough to go because he had broken something but he got better and went. Most of the guys that she was close to went off to war and one of her closest brothers died. I think that there were a couple of things that helped her get through this hard time. One thing was that she her mother and sisters kind of helped her and suggested things that she would do that would help her and the war, but one of the main things were the letters that she sent and the letters that the guys wrote back to her. They helped her to stay positive and they also helped her not forget about them.

In this book you will also find out that although there are hard times you will make it through those tough times. In conclusion I think that this book was pretty good over all. I think that it had lot’s of interesting stories and we can kind of see how life was during the war for them from this book. Also one thing that I kind of liked in this book was that it was about a girl that was a little bit older than us but still in her teen years like I am so I can relate a tiny bit about life. I think that I enjoyed the book and that it was good that I read it.
