My Volcano

My volcano is a cinder cone volcano, cinder cone volcanoes are only explosive volcanoes that make a big eruption. We worked very hard to make our volcano, we used cardboard and made paper mache and then painted it. We have ten different things that we labeled on our volcano: Magma chamber, pipe, vent, crater, side vent,, hot spot, lava flow, plume, bombs, and active. For the hot spring we made it out of a cup and painted it blue for the hot water. We labeled all of our things with a toothpick and paper.  We made our bombs and plume out of cotton balls.

God’s Preparation

I think that God has been preparing me to do work for him through my Spanish, at school I have been in Spanish immersion and I think that through that I can reach out to people in other countries that speak Spanish. I also think that God has been preparing me through kids, I love to be with kids and babysit them. I think that kids have a really big impact and can influence other kids around them.

I think that some experiences that God has put in my path are lot’s of babysitting jobs and kids around me in my community. Another experience that I have not yet experienced is going to Cost Rica and being able to speak Spanish there and we will also be working with kids there so it’s like a two in one.

Some gifts and talents that I have is being able to speak Spanish (obviously) and I am also very organized so that comes in handy when your around kids.

Something that was good was that the egg actually stayed up for aprox. 6 seconds, I thought that our thing was not going to last even for three seconds.  Something that did not go well is that that the egg did n ot last the 10 seconds. My favorite part was that the egg did not brake when it fell. My least favorite part was the people in my group, they did not help me at all especially the other arquitecht.

The Case of the Missing Boat

The Case of the Missing Boat

It was one pleasant day at Spider Lake in Michigan, it was a warm sunny day and lots of people were outside, some clouds were coming in but other than that is was a perfect day. The Schreiber family was out at a cottage on the lake, they were going to go one a boat ride to what they called the pirate island, it was just a small island in the lake. There was a house on that island but they never knew if somebody actually lived on it, infact there was always an empty boat there that was anchored on the island that was pretty up to date so there must have been somebody. When they arrived on the island the boat that was usually there was not, they thought that the people that lived there must have taken it out but they soon realized that that was the case. Ronald , a man that they had just met, lived on the island and was very angry and frustrated he asked them if they had seen a boat similar to his. They said no and he said that he had a couple people in mind, one he had the sheriff’s assistent that came around on his boat. He said that he had seen the  assistant sheriff riding with the sheriff in his boat earlier today, he said that they assistent never liked him and that the assistant did not have a boat of his own. Second it could be one of his neighbors Bob who had a boat that looked exactly like that one that was lost so he could have taken his, even though he had that exact one, so that he could have more boats. Last it could be one of his friends that lived on the lake, he said that he had no real reason of being suspicious of him he just always thought that he was a person that would end up committing a crime. Ronald said that he paid the sheriff’s assistant a friendly visit and went to talk to him and he said that during that earlier this morning he was talking with Bob about his boat. Then he went and talked to Bob and noticed a scratch on his boat that was on exactly the same spot as his missing boat. Next he went to talk to his friend who was minding his own business and did not seem suspicious at all until out of the corner of his eye Ronald spotted his very own lucky fishing net, he asked him why that was here and he said he had no idea how it got there and that it must have floated to his little beach. In the end the sheriff’s assistant and Bob both committed the crime together, his lucky fishing net was put on his friends beach to make him look suspicious but he did not do it. They did it in the morning and switched Bob’s boat out on the beach and then Bob gave his old one to the sheriff’s assistant.

Why is it important that we study christian persecution?

I think that it is important that we study about christian persecution to now what is really happening in other countries and how people will give up their lives for Christ. It is also very important because then we know how we are so blessed to live in the US and how nothing is happening to us because of our faith. We can see how God is blessing us and then when we hear these stories it reminds us to pray for other christians.

Ideal Church vs. Early Church

In class we have been learning about the early church, we made a list of what we think would be our ideal church and we ended up with things like a Starbucks, bagel shop, and much more. Then we learned about the early church and how it is so perfect and way different than what our ideal church is.

My personal thoughts about this unit is that in this we are seeing how our ideal church and there ideal church is but yet we still see that there is brokenness in the early church.

God Sightings

This weekend I saw God through the nature around us and how beautiful it is. My Mom and Me stopped at my Grandparents farm and took a walk around the lane. While we walked I saw how pretty the leaves were and the cows and just everything around us. It was beautiful.

My book is a book full of adventure, war and a little bit of romance. Rilla of Ingleside is a book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This book talks about a girl who is in her teen years and at her first dance everybody finds out that their country, Canada, is going to join the war. Throughout these years she has to grow up quickly and learn to mature very fast. All three of her brothers go off to the army and the boy that she likes also goes. Her closest brother dies while he is away and at the end of the book she the war is just finishing and she doesn’t know that Kenneth, the boy that she likes, is coming home and he surprises her at her front door. Throughout this book you will also find out that although there are hard times you will make it through those tough times.

I saw how Rilla, the main character, would get through the war when her brother, Walter, sent her a letter right before he died. The letter that he sent her talked about how before he had been scared to enlist in the army and how now that he is in the army he is not afraid. He knows that he will be shot down tomorrow and is not at all afraid. In the letter he also talks about how Rilla and a good family friend, Una, had been so sweet to him and encouraged him during these war days. In that letter he told Rilla to keep on being sweet and laughing all the time and keep being herself, he does not want her to be sad for the rest of her life so he tells her that she should keep on being who she is and not be sad because of him. I saw how Rilla got through the tough time when her brother died in the war because the letter really helped her to keep on being herself and move on in life. The letter helped her move on in her life, and she got through that tough time.

I also saw that Rilla got through the time when she took care of the “war baby” and learned how to love him. So, Rilla is a person that does not like babies, she doesn’t even like to touch them or hug them or have anything to do with them. So during the war her mom asks her to go to someones house and give them something.  When she goes over there she finds out that the mom is dead and there is only one more person at the house that can take care of him but she doesn’t want to take care of him or doesn’t know how to. So she sees the baby and does not want to take him, but she does because she really does not want to leave the baby there because the person at the house would not take care of them very well.  Then she has to decide if she is going to keep the baby and she still does not love him but has to learn to at least like him because she is the one responsible for him.  I saw how Rilla got through the hard time of taking care of the baby because she eventually learns to love him. She learns to like him when she grows use to him and sees how he likes her and she likes him. In the end the dad of the baby comes back from the war and takes the kid with him since he can take care of the baby now.

Another way that I saw Rilla get through a hard time was when almost some of her family friends and her brothers left for war. It was very hard to see them go because at first her oldest brother went to go to war and his father was very sad but he let him, and her other brother could not stand war and fighting and blood and killing but he was very scared to go to war but he finally enlisted so he wouldn’t be scared anymore. Then her youngest brother who was not old enough to go to the war finally was old enough and he enlisted and went. Her family friends went to and also the guy that she likes, who was also a family friend, was not healthy enough to go because he had broken something but he got better and went. Most of the guys that she was close to went off to war and one of her closest brothers died. I think that there were a couple of things that helped her get through this hard time. One thing was that she her mother and sisters kind of helped her and suggested things that she would do that would help her and the war, but one of the main things were the letters that she sent and the letters that the guys wrote back to her. They helped her to stay positive and they also helped her not forget about them.

In this book you will also find out that although there are hard times you will make it through those tough times. In conclusion I think that this book was pretty good over all. I think that it had lot’s of interesting stories and we can kind of see how life was during the war for them from this book. Also one thing that I kind of liked in this book was that it was about a girl that was a little bit older than us but still in her teen years like I am so I can relate a tiny bit about life. I think that I enjoyed the book and that it was good that I read it.

Descriptive Writing

The card that has a book on it reminds of when I went camping at P.J. Hoffmaster. It reminds me of that time because that is when I would sit in my hammock and read a good book. When we went I had so much fun there and felt so relaxed. As I sat there and laid back I could feel the soft breeze brush against my skin. I could see the leaves on the trees moving around as the soft and gentle breeze brushed against them. It was so good to just sit there and not have to be running around. Those days at P.J. Hoffmaster were so very relaxing and exciting. I had fun and spent time with my family.

The hourglass card reminds me of when we went to gun lake for a day. It reminds me of that because the time just flew by because we were having so much fun. We were out tubing on the lake that day and before we realized it it was already time to go. I could hear people’s voices, they sounded so surprised. The time had flown by as fast as a cheetah. That afternoon we had fried fish and it is one of the best fried fish dinners that I have ever had. That day at gun lake was fun, I played in the water, went tubing, and did lot’s of fun stuff.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:24-25

I believe that the verse that was chosen this year fits the year very well especially since our school turns one hundred this year. The verse that was picked talks about having a firm foundation, during these one hundred years we have had our foundation firm on God which has helped us turn one hundred years. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

As an eighth grader this year the theme means a lot to me. It means a lot to me because when I think about how long the school has been up for with a firm foundation it just amazes me and reminds me to have a firm foundation on Him. The theme also means a lot to me when the verse says that “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” It means a lot to me because this year my friend Megan is going through a hard time while her Dad has cancer. We just have to trust God whatever happens and keep our faith in him. We need to remember that if we keep our faith in him he will do what is best for us.

The theme this year means a lot to me as a Christian in this world. The theme means a lot to me, because the world is always tempting us to do things that are not right. The verse says that, “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” If we keep our foundation in him we will not fall into those temptations. It also means a lot to me because we not only need to hear what he says but put it into practice. We need to be an example to others what God want’s us to be like.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world. In conclusion I really like the theme that was picked this year because it connects very well with real life and with what is going on with our school.

New Addition

I have enjoyed these days in the new edition because there are so many cool features. One thing that I really like is the air condition, it really helps during the school day. I also like the glass walls they are really cool but sometimes distracting. The furniture in the commons areas are also very cool and I like that there is a lot more space to hang out.  Over all I really like the new addition and it is very cool and advanced.
