The Eagle Huntress

Today we watched a movie “The Eagle Huntress” and it was a really cool movie. The movie was about a girl names Aisholpan who was learning to be an eagle hunter from her dad. A lot of her ancestors had been eagle hunters for a long time and it was a tradition or culture in their family. She caught her own eaglet with the help of her dad so she could compete in the eagle hunters competition in Ulgii. She got first place as the only girl huntress and beat a record for how fast the eagle flies to you from a mountain. In the mind of all the men that meant nothing if you just won the competition you had to prove you are a true eagle hunter by going to the mountain in the winter and hunting a fox.

We saw an article that was about if “The Eagle Huntress” was really a documentary or not. They asked the director a lot of questions if they filmed certain scenes over and over again but they didn’t so it was a real documentary. Otto Bell denied that none of the parts were retaken except at the end when they win the eagle hunter competition.

To scale: The Solar System

The Solar System was cool because their is no picture out their that has an actual scale size of the Solar System or scale size of the Solar System. They needed space for the whole scale to fit so they went in a desert area. I can’t even imagine how big the solar system is or would be if we could see a real scale.

Running Wild

Their was people that were running all around this mountain range area putting cameras to try to see if they could catch any wolverines on camera because some people got a wolverine on camera around that area so they tried to see if they could get any on camera. Will the wolverines come back? Are they going to come back? Where are they if they are not in the mountains. I wouldn’t do it because I can’t.

Canyon Song

Their were these 2 girls that were born into a navajo family who often visited the canyons. When they visited the canyons they sang songs so that the spirits if the canyon would hear them. They loved to go there and work in the fields planting corn. The sisters loved to go explore in the canyon and find cool places and sit in talk. Every time they left the canyon they would grab leaves of of the trees, while they were in the car, and throw them our the window into the pond or the river. The kids dad went to a school that was like showing more respect to the white kids. You had to dress like them and you couldn’t have long hair. The dad loved to teach their kids about the navajo culture.
