Newsletter #36

Wow! What a week 🙂 Memorial Parade went great, Our last field trip to Farmers Market was fun – so much learning and reviews of the year happened there, and PBL Presentation was such a success (The children LOVED being able to teach you and THANK YOU so much for coming and being a part of the celebration – I am one PROUD teacher)! I can hardly believe we have only one more week until summer! I am savoring my last moments with these kindergarteners and realizing that goodbyes are going to be so tough :’)

This is our LAST newsletter this year, and I just want to take this chance to say Thank you so much for all your support and help this year as parents –  Thank you for your prayers, for your encouraging words and for all your hard work supporting your children in many different ways.

What did we learn and What will we learn?

Mandarin/Language Arts: We continue to grow and learn new characters/phrases, as well as expanding our vocabularies in our daily conversations and news sharing. We practiced how to read with a friend this week and it is now a permanent choice for our daily 5. Next week we will focus a lot on reviewing all that we have learned in Kindergarten.

Bible: This week we focus on talking about how we can do God’s work and how Holy Spirit helped us, we also drew our Spiritual Journal pages. We are reviewing stories we have heard this year.

Memory Verse/Fruit of the Spirit: We will spend some time reviewing our Bible Memory Verses and Fruit of the Spirit this coming week.

We are working on practicing and memorizing the Lord’s Prayer – you can also find it on our Bible Memory Verses recording page. I encourage you to practice the Lord’s Prayer with the children at home too (when you pray/before bed, or even when you have some extra time).

Math: We continue to practice our number sense and learning how numbers work together (addition/subtraction) as well as story problems. We are reviewing our equations along with telling stories and using the right phrases when we do tell our math stories. We are doing some math games and practice reviewing our concepts in partner groups.

Exploring God’s World (Sci/SocStu): We got to apply our knowledge through our field trip at Farmer’s Market! We had the chance to review needs and wants, engaged in conversations with the sellers there, and did some trading. Many thanks to our wonderful chaperones who guide the children through this whole trip and make it a success 🙂 We also wrapped up our Science Animals PBL as the children went in action in teaching you! Next Tuesday we will get to hear and see the first graders talked about their habitat  and teaching about animals – your children are VERY EXCITED that we get to be audiences of animals habitat learning.

Writing: We continue to write stories and next week we will be writing a special book – my book of reflection on Kindergarten. It will be one of our big project for next week to complete this book and we will be able to share it on the last day!

Play: We are starting to clean up some toys (since we have so many!) while enjoying our play time as usual 🙂

Things to Note:

Bus Tags: All students use turn in their bus tags before the last day of school. Students who never ride the bus (walkers, parent transportation) should turn their tag into the school office the last week of school. Students that are currently using their bus tags may give their tag to the bus driver on the last day they ride the bus, give them to their teacher or drop them in the school office on the last day of school. Misplaced tags might be charged for $10.

Father’s Day: We will be doing a little art project this week to celebrate the hard work that our dads do 🙂 Allow me to wish you a Happy Father’s Day in advance!

Things coming home: In the next couple of days your child will start bringing many things home each day, many of them can be use for summer reviews.

Google Folder for Pictures: I have shared some pictures with you in a google folder – I have found that it’s actually an easier way and you get the full quality! Let me know if you are having trouble accessing it.

From the Immersion Coordinator: As we move into the summer months, stop by my office (#69 between the library and gym) if you would like a handout from add.a.lingua that gives suggestions and ideas for enhancing your child’s immersion education during the summer. As always, feel free to stop in or email me (jpierce@zcs.org) with any questions that you might have.
