Picture Book Reflection

These past few weeks our class has been working on making pictures books in Language Arts class. The process in making and learning how to make a picture book is way harder than what I had in mind. We researched the Do’s and Don’t’s in a picture book, what we should include and what what would not be a good to have in it. We also did a survey to the littler kids in school asking them what they liked in a picture book. After gathering all this information we set to work. We went over ideas and starting making a rough graph with descriptions of pictures.  Such as whats going to be in them and what the character’s are going to look like and so on and so forth.  It was hard to include our research and the survey in making the picture book. After we were done with the rough sketch of what our book’s going to look like, we had someone else look over it to give us some input and then we finalized it and had a parent or adult go over it one last time before starting in the final actual book. It was a long process, but it was worth it in the end looking at what you’ve completed.

Tim’s Chapel

Just listening to Tim’s story was amazing. The doctors said once he was born that he wouldn’t live for another day because of his Brittle bone condition. And now, here he is, a Senior in high school. And even though he has this and breaks bones a lot, the smallest of movements would break this bones, he still has joy because of what Jesus has placed in his heart, he has that joy that I really admire. We complain about the silliest things and here’s Tim. Sure, nobody’s like, perfect so he gets frustrated sometimes but just looking at him I see Jesus through him, working in him. I want to be as much as an inspiration that Tim was onto others to others. I want people to see me with as much joy Tim has.

Immigration

Sense these past couple weeks we’ve been learning about immigration, today we had a day where people who immigrated here came and told their story of how they came here and what it was like and stuff like that. My group got the chance to interview  Miss Sulayman from Indonesia. She came not that long ago to go to collage here at Calvin and is currently looking at our school to learn how to be a teacher. She says that sense she came here a lot of Americans think she’s Chinese while she’s been here. A lot of the houses in Indonesia are a lot closer together and here the houses are farther apart. Also she says a lot of Americans think Indonesia is a fairly poor country when some people that live there aren’t poor at all.  She’s not fully like, moved here she’s only here for collage and then she doesn’t know what she’s going to do after that. She traveled different places around the world. When Teddy asked what team she would cheer for if America played Indonesia in Cricket she said she’d cheer for Indonesia. Teddy said the Cricket team was better in Indonesia (I have no idea why he even asked that….)
