First 8th Grade Post

2nd day of 8th Grade. This Summer I went up north to my cabin. At the cabin I tubed, knee boarded, and tried too ski. The skiing didn’t go well for me… I fell of and pulled my hamstring. Also this summer I did fireworks with my family for fourth of July. We almost blew up. The firework went off to low, luckily nobody got hurt. I have a pool so I swam almost every day. My grandma lives on the lake. So every Sunday we would go out to the lake and eat pizza and hang out with family. This summer was pretty good, I hope to have another great year at ZCS.

Boat Trip

Three things I learned are, 1. I learned about plankton. It was really cool to see the plankton, they looked quite cool. 2. I learned that the water we drink is full of iron that conducts electricity. 3. I learned about all of the invasive species, sea lamprey, asian carp, etc.

One thing that made me wonder is why do fish like different amounts of pH? Another thing I wonder is where does plankton come from?

Themes Of The Bible, Bible Exam Part 2

Names:

In this lesson we learned about all the different names of God. We learned how El is the powerful, creator God/name, and YHWH is the relationship and caring God/name. I said that God has so many names that just explain his many personalities. There is also a lot of other names like Jehovah. Mr. Minkus brought in his birth certificate. He told us and talked about how his birth certificate represented how God is the creator, but also the caring relationship God.

Covenant:

In this lesson we learned about agreements made by two parties or people. We learned about conditional and unconditional covenants. We also had a conversation about how God has an unconditional covenant with everyone. A conditional covenant is something like, “ If you do the dishes I’ll give you $2 or something. An unconditional covenant would be saying, “I will give $2 just because, and i will always give you $2 no matter what”. I reflected on the fact that no matter what you do God will always love you. For Mr. Minkus’s visual he did a wedding ring representing the covenant or the vows that you make when you marry someone.

Slavery/Salvation:
imgres-2

In this lesson we learned about how God freed the slaves in Egypt. God uses people to do what he wants to be done on earth. In this scenario God used Moses to free slaves from Egypt. This lesson was all about the plagues. We talked about how the Egyptians didn’t let the israelites out of Egypt. That’s why Moses had to send the plagues. Mr. Minkus’ Visual was an Argentine flag because when he was struggling, God used his struggling to do something good.

Siani Law:

In this lesson we learned about holding grudges and making idols. We talked about what our idols were. We learned about Mt. Siani and how the Israelites worshiped an idol when Moses was up on the mountain. We had a circle of love about idol and what our idols are. People were talking about how video games, sports, tv, and other things were their idols. Mr. Minkus’ visual aid was a seat belt. It represented how God protects us from danger.

Salute To a King:

In this lesson we learn about how the Israelites wanted a melak king, but they got a nagid king instead. A nagid king is a king that follows God. A malek king is a king that focuses on war. We also had a conversation about what we idolize again, and we talked about stuff the we like that God maybe won’t like. I kinda said this as a joke, but I said that some people idolize homework because we could be spending time in the word instead of homework.

Something Rotten:

In this lesson we learned about Ahab leading Israel to worship baal. Mr. Minkus read us a story about baal. He read about how Elijah told the baal worshipers to tell baal to set fire an altar, nothing happened. The Elijah prayed to God, threw water onto his altar, and God came in the form of fire and consumed the altar. Mr. Minkus’ visual for this lesson was us throwing stones into the lake at camp. This represented throwing all of our sins and worries away.

Slide To Destruction:

In this lesson we learned about the cycle of judges. Whenever the kings would do something bad like for instance if a king decided to worship idols a judge would come to fix what they were doing wrong. I reflected on this and I said, “the kings should’ve been more respectful of God because they were the ruler of a civilization”. This next part kinda relates to me because I play soccer. Mr. Minkus’ visual was a red card. He used this as a visual because a red card in a soccer game throws a player out of the game like they did to the king.

A Savior:
imgres-5

In this lesson we learned about Isaiah. In the Old Testament it hints at a new covenant in the New Testament. The new covenant is of course Jesus. I had a question instead of a question this time for my reflection. I asked myself, “how would God speak to Isaiah”. Maybe in signs or just verbally speak to him. This time Mr. Minkus’ visual was a communion table. This represented, well, what communion stands for, remembrance.

1st Person Narrative

Brutal war, it was a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday, I wasn’t there but I could see it from my house. In my world we don’t worry about education we only worry about war. My dad is part of the council of elders. He was one of the two kings and there were twenty-eight other members. My mom was cool. She didn’t care about what she wore. She also was the fastest and strongest women in the army. Oh yeah! I forgot to say women were allowed in the army! We don’t talk about this a lot, but 5 years the city took my brother and left him on the side of a hill to die. Our city relied on farming and conquering other cities. Conquering was fun, we got to make people farm for us and then we got all of the stuff that they farmed. I kind of made friends with one of the slaves, her name was Grace. Grace was the best, and because my dad was and is the king she got to be our slave. Until one day when the city decided to the her and some other slaves go. But then the saddest thing happened they let them go and then they killed them all of them, and Grace. So this is pretty much my life here in good ol’ Sparta.

Cool Skills

_ Since Christmas we have been learning some cool skills. For example we have been learning how to make Histograms, line plots, ect. They all revolve around the frequency of the same number in a data set. In a line plot you put an X above a number depending on how many numbers there are in the data set A histogram is a bar graph that does the same things as the rest. Another example is that we have been learning how to do one point and two point perspective. One point perspective is with one vanishing point and two point perspective is with two vanishing points. Another reason is we have been learning how to expand our range in choir. Mr. S had us do special warm-ups like we pretended to dribble a basketball and then shoot and when we shot our voices got high.

Cool Content

Since Christmas we have been learning some pretty cool things. For example we have been learning about tectonic plates. Tectonic plates move away from each other, move toward each other, or slide against each other. Another example would be we are learning about one point perspective. One point perspective is making stuff in your perspective of sight, so you draw 3D stuff. The last example would be we learned about the Pakistan people. The Pakistan people were attacked by the Taliban. A girl gets shot in the head on a bus and she survives. She ends up in a wheelchair and she is moved to London.

Egypt

During this Egypt project my team was great. My team studied Ancient and modern Writing and Technology. We had a poster, keynote, write your name in hieroglyphics, and the best of all SKITTLES for the reward. We 3D printed a pyramid that was the most detailed thing ever!

In this project I learned that working in a group of people can often be quite fun. For example we got to do things and learn thing with and about each other. like I never knew that Caleb’s dad worked a Disher Designed and I never really knew that Andrew liked to read so much.

In conclusion I like this project it was all in all good time, and it was worth while. Working in a group can be challenging, but we always feel like we can do it. This project was very fun for I think everybody

Math Post

In math this week I have been learning lots of things. For example I am learning about algebra. I have to add and subtract algebraic expressions. To do this, you need to have an expression so I will make one up 46 – 13 = 33, Then you need to find the number equal to r,, to do this you simply add both numbers. so in this case it would be 13 plus 33 which would be 46. 46 – 13 = 33.

6th Grade First Post: What I Have Been Learning

It has been great this first month of school. Here is something I’ve been doing…

In Culture we have been reading the book I am Malala. A book where Malala a girl from Pakistan is invaded by the Taliban. Her dad owns a school and she attends. The Taliban wants to get rid of girl schools. Right now in the book Malala is writing a diary about what is going on for this British dude. This Radio guy on the other hand knowing that the people a practically brainwashed he his telling them what to do or something. This is a real story by the way. This is a good book. We are half way through but I give it a two thumbs up.

Bible Memory

So do not be afraid for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you and I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.Isaiah 41:10

Then he said to them, “go out into all the world preaching the good news to all the creation whoever believes and is baptized will be saved ,but whoever does not believe will be condemned”. Mark 16:15-16

Are two sparrows sold for a penny? yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your father. Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. so do not be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31

Spring Break Reflections “The Good, The bad, and The Ugly

April 14,2014
This Spring Break I got go to Florida and did some awesome stuff Like.
Flying first class on an airplane by myself ,and we got to rent a Mustang convertible and we drove it from Pensacola to Destin, top down, and 76’f! That was the two of the many great things that happened in Florida. One of the Bad Things is that for the first hour of the way home I felt like a frog in a snake. The car was so packed and I felt sick to the stomach it was a long boring trip filled with excitement ,adventure ,disaster. An Ugly Thing that happened is that it rained a ton literally and we had to stay inside almost all day which was annoying Because I had had had to stay inside with my amature brother and that is a small portion of my Spring Break!
